New Ultrabook for Work - Budget $1500

Hey folks,

Trying to find a new ultrabook for work/study, wouldn't be my main PC. Pretty much all I need it to do is be light and run MS word and VLC without lagging.

I found this - do you guys reckon its a decent deal?
Really appreciate any advice you guys can lend!

It's overkill. For your use, anything with a 1080p screen will suffice, how much extra do you really want to spend to reduce the weight?

Plenty of options at Officeworks or similar for under $1k.

    • Was gonna say, yeah, for basic word processing and web browsing you definitely don't need to be spending $1.3K+ on a laptop, even if you are paying for the 'ultra' form factor.

    • This already does have a 1080p screen. So what else about this do you think is overkill? I'm looking at the T14 because I want to replace my main 15 inch laptop for something smaller so I'm kind of in the same boat but want newer specs for longevity.

I’m gonna be that guy - MacBook Air

  • Macbook Air if you can get by without windows. At that price range the price/performance ratio is poor for PC alternatives

    $813
    14" Full HD (1920 x 1080) touchscreen display
    Ryzen™ 5 4500U 6 core CPU
8GB RAM (Ram is 4gb soldered + 4gb from a SO-DIMM). So you could technically upgrade the RAM to 20GB with 16GB SO-DIMM
    42WHrs, 3S1P, 3-cell Li-ion (up to 10 hours battery life)

    Downside:
Vivobooks (as opposed to Zenbooks) have somewhat average build quality, and the USB ports are a little lacking. USB 2.0 ports in this day and age?

Thinkpad X13 AMD user here, it's a great laptop and I like how sturdy the device is but $1500+ is probably a little too much to pay for Ryzen 4000. At least get Intel Alder Lake if you're spending that much — Alder Lake CPU's are very power efficient.
