Additional cosmetic upgrades to soldiers and the Avenger are included, as well as a new epic mission where Central Officer Bradford leads a squad with the guidance of an old friend.

Discover a unique new soldier class complete with powerful new combat abilities, strategy mechanics, and customization options.

How does this run on Switch? iirc it struggled on PS4

      https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/xcom-2-collection

I don't have it, but some reviews mention long loading times and low frames.

    • +4

It runs ok, there are occasional stutters and frame drops, and yes load times can up to 1-2 mins. Also the graphics would be like a low PC graphic setting.

      • +1

Agreed with all of this. My experience was surprisingly playable.

          Thanks all.

Got some long flights coming up so looking for some games to get on the Switch which I haven't used for a couple of years.
Played through XCOM2 probably about 5 years ago on PC so figure a replay could be in order.

          • @Peekay: As someone with a ridiculous amount of time in this game, the Long War mod without the war of chosen dlc is the primo game mode. Strongly recommend you play it on easy though.

          • @Peekay: Try into the breach. It is turn based rogue like. One of my favourite flight games.

I didn't find the performance particularly bad on PS4. And in any case, being turn based means the odd stutter here and there is less annoying than it would be in a lot of other games.

The game itself I found really disappointing, though… I thought the previous one was much better.

the Mario Rabbits game is meant to be an excellent xcom clone that does run well if anyone is looking for this style of game. Haven't played 2 but 1 was great, at this price it seems worth the risk.

    • I've played through both (XCOM2 on the PC though), really enjoyed both - they'd be my top 2 favourite turn-based tactics.

They play very differently though, XCOM2 has a lot more depth (obviously) whereas Mario I found was about experimenting with different builds and team compositions.

I'd look up a performance review for this and decide if it's playable for you - it's a steal if it is.

XCOM 2 is one of my all time favourites (I liked 1 as well). War of the Chosen is almost like a whole new game too. I've already sunk 100s of hours in on the PC but at this price I'm going to pick it up just for the portability.

The major downside with the console version is the lack of mods. The mods range everywhere from new enemy units, soldier classes, appearance customisation options, playable aliens, rooms, abilities, research, revamped AI (this is a huge factor as it lets you eliminate a significant number of the AI flaws that allow "cheese strategies") and even massive changes to the strategy layer.

But the switch (and mobile version) is portable, so I'll give it that.

  • I have it on PS4. Awesome game (apart from the lag). Have been wanting to replay again so wondering if I should pick this up.

They should port over the old X-COM: UFO Defense as well.

  • Got to be kidding for those who'd pay the RRP $90 for such an old game..

    • Nintendo pricing

XCOM2 is normally $89.95 on Steam, and War of the Chosen is $54.95. I'm not defending the prices, but it's about the same on PC unfortunately.

Though, the base game is $5.40 at the moment, and War of the Chosen is $13.73 on the current Steam sales.

      • I love it how they try to match the same pricing as a PC on switch lol it has not where near the same graphic ablities as a PC on a switch they should be charging atleast half 89 bucks RRP for it for consoles.its like charging a pc price on a mobile game.

        • You should check out how much XCOM2 is on Android then

  • +1

great game an olddy for the price its very good. I have Xcom 1 on the ps vita it was a digital only game and even that was 30 bucks lol so 9 bucks for Xcom 2 for it on switch is a steal

  • Good game but the pre-calculation of rolls is a bit frustrating although it can be leveraged to win scenarios.

  • +1

I have invested 100hours on the switch version and never encountered the frozen screen which is often occurred in the PS4.

And I paid the full price to get physical copy in the US amazon when it released two years ago

    Definitely worthy

  • Awesome, thanks, been waiting for a sale on this for ages.
    Primary reason I justified a switch - portable x-com!

  • I have the steam version, is this pretty much a direct port? Wondering if it’s worth buying a portable version of the game.

    • with this price, you would never go wrong

  • Been playing this for a week and the loading times are frustratingly slow…been blaming that on why I'm playing so long when my wife asks why I'm playing so long…it's partly true.

    It's a good game though.
