Comes up with zero freight when I go to checkout. Is that intentional? Doesn't mention free delivery in decsription.

    • Oh yes it does:

To ship anywhere in Australia: $0.00

    • I'm not sure? But comes up as zero before you checkout….. They seem to have free freight on a lot of their Tv's. I don't work for JB. So can't really help you in that department.

  • Very Tempting! My partner are the one in many that cannot see 3D even in Cinema… How does this compare to the non 3D version Hz wise?

How do you know is 50 Hz? Is 50Hz even enough to produce 3D? I thought we need 120 Hz, as in 60 Hz each eye? Sorry Im noob but this is perfect as a bedroom tv!

    • I have to say I was surprised for the price. For a 2nd TV it's great. It uses the same 3D technology as the LG (Cinema 3D) and those Cinema glasses will work with this. If you can't see the 3D in the cinema then I doubt you will see this? But I hardly use the 3D anyway. And those that complain about the 3D on this TV haven't set it up right. You will also need to go to the Soniq website and upgrade the firmware to play SBS 3D on this TV I will try to find the link.

By the fact that they're giving away 4 pairs of glasses with it I'm thinking it's passive 3D, where you don't need 120Hz+. This is where the glasses are polarized so each eye only sees every second line, giving a picture for each eye.

yeah you are right mate. This guy knows his stuff

Cheers for the quick reply, Might go in store to pick one up tonight XD

    • You dont need high refresh rates for 3D really, bluray only does 24p so 48hz is good enough.

      • Agreed, but with motion interpolation being pushed so hard in recent years, I think people no longer enjoy the traditional film look (24p) and want the artificially smooth look. I personally like it, my Viera does 24p "Smooth Film" (their name for motion interpolation) which works quite well.

So while 24p may be how the film was intended to be watched, someone used to motion interpolation will call it choppy.

  • Yes, could you tell us where you got 50Hz from? The Soniq site says it's 50/60 Hz, but then it's all over the place; it says the TV will take PAL/SECAM/NTSC analog feeds in one section, but only PAL in another. No panel latency given, either.

Otherwise, looks to be a good deal.

    • Yeah my bad it's a 50/60 Hz 3DTV. says so on the back of mine. I use it mainly for the Ps3 and 360. Oh while it doesn't mention it. Mine also plays movies from a external HDD or USB

this link is the link to upgrade firmware to include Manual 3D option. Which includes side by side, and top to Bottom 3D

  • seen this TV in stores and the 3D was not very good. im sure its an okay spare tv if all you want is to watch tv or play movies. 50hz and poor 3d performance means i would not buy though.

    • you really need to set it up at home, most of the time JB are showing the 2D - 3D option which works, but its not great…. Playing around with the viewpoint option will fix things (ie: blur) in most cases for Full HD 3D movies or SBS 3D movies. Most ppl that have seen the 3D on my TV have been pleasantly surprised. I mostly game in 3D and have a few Blu-ray and SBS 3D movies and they seem to work fine with the right settings. It isn't as good as active 3D but it works

Hey guys so my dad really wants this tv (missed out last time it was this price)

Can i just get a quick heads up preferably by someone who has one on whether he should get it? As in no big problems, won't give you headaches etc
And also how the 2d functions

    Thanks!

    • +2

Most 3DTV's will cause some type of nausea as it's not natural. Just take breaks in between. While you get what you pay for…. The 3D works. 2D functions are fine and as normal as any other 2D LCD HDTV. At a glance you get USB record and play. Multiple sound and picture options. A clock with sleep/ on - off timer. DTV and ATV, 2 AV inputs, 1 S-Video, 2 HDMI, 2 Component, 1 VGA and a media/USB input

      • Hey thanks for that.
So would you recommend this TV (you've had it for a couple of weeks now right?)
And any advice on how to set it up? Is there a general guide or would it mostly be personal preference?

        Ta!

  • +1

depends how close the TV is in proximity to the viewer or the viewing angle. For 3D viewing on this TV I recommend 2-4m away and straight infront. Viewpoint option varies from -12 - 0 - +12. With negative being below the centre, positive above. There is also a 3D depth option which can vary the viewing option slightly. Mine is set at around +20 (highest being +32) You really need to test the TV with a Full HD 3D movie and play around with the Viewing and 3D depth option. To enjoy the 3D at its fullest. As said the 3D works but it takes a bit of playing around

  • OMG I want one so bad!

  • Is this any good for HD sports on Foxtel (i.e. soccer or AFL) or is it better to get a TV with a higher refresh rate (instead of 50hz say 100hz)?

    • -1

yeah thats a big problem with 50/60HZ TV's. The Refresh rate isn't enough

  • Hmmm, thinking about a bedroom TV upgrade. I like passive 3d, I'm not a fan of active shutterglasses! Plus, I still have enough Ourdeal half-price $50 Stockland vouchers to make this a sub-$200 purchase! :D

    • wish i bought the $50 ones now, would have come in handy with a tv purchase. i did get $100 worth of the $10 ones but spent them months ago as they were nearing expiry.

      • Nope, 12mths from the date of purchase…so I've got til just before Xmas this year! :)

The $10 freebies had a short use-by date though, right enough!

    • Which jbhifi can you using stockland card. I stll have 200 dollar.

      • For me it's Glendale, NSW. It's a bit further than my usual at Kotara, but I'll drive a few extra klicks for a bargain! :)

TBH, I've actually found the staff at Glendale are a bit more mature & somewhat sharper than the kids at Kotara; who are nice enough young'ns, but would need to form a cabal of at least 3-4 in order to tie a shoe properly! :p

  • What am I missing? When I follow the link I get 499?

    • Clear your Cookies and Cache my friend.

  • Does this one hve 2D to 3D converter?

    • yeah it does, It's not 100% though. Sometimes things are in 3D when they are not supposed to be. It does an impressive job in the 2d - 3d mode. But the 3D is a lot better in 3D content. EG: Blu-rays and 3D compatible games

  • Checked this TV out today.

It has no off button. Even the button on the unit itself is "standby" where the off button with all the other crap (volume, channel etc) would usually be.

    Kinda weird. Otherwise, excellent tv.

Not sure if I'm popping on this because I'm not used to it not having an off button.

    • +1

"Not sure if I'm popping on this" popping? you've been watching too much American Pickers!
re power button, everything uses a standby button these days, it seems if you can make something that uses say under ~3watts in standby or you slap a MEPS certification on it you can get away with not having a master power switch

      • I love that show!

Thanks for the heads up on MEPS. Just checked the specs of this tv from the soniq website, says standby power consumption is <1w so it's not bad. I might pop on it after all!

  • Who make the panel for Soniq?????????

  • Just got this delivered today. It is really good so far.

Haven tried 3d yet but the tv is great. Divx worked well from USB. Optical out works with my amp.

    Thanks OP.

  • Can anyone tell me whether these are 50hz or 60hz? how can it be both?
