Refinancing with Citibank or ING

Hi. I am in the process of refinancing my mortgage. My mortgage broker has given a couple of options which are ING and Citibank. Both are offering good deals . I was hoping someone could share their experiences with either bank. Specifically their App and customer service

My mortgage is with ING. App is pretty good, not the best out there but far from the worst. Customer service is helpful, but you can have fairly long wait times on hold sometimes.

  • I'm with Citi. It has its good and bad features. be aware Citi's retail business has been purchased by NAB.

    • Thanks for your reply. Is there app ok?

      • The app is OK but I really try to avoid phoning the call centre.

  • Have you looked at other offers, rather then just what the mortgage broker is offering?

    • Yeah I think the deals are reasonable and we have dealt with him before and he has made the process smooth

      • Reasonable or the best? No point losing out on thousands of $

For a standard refinance it is like 2-3 hours of work to refinance, your broker probably isn't saving you any time.

        • What loan product do you have? We'll start comparing yours with a few others.

          • @TheMindsetTraveller: I am currently refinancing with Tic:Toc, using this deal.

Athena is also definitely worth considering. There are also other good deals on OzBargain. It really depends what features you are looking for and if you intend to refinance later for a better deal/cashback, or you are looking for a good company that you can stay with for the life of the mortgage.

    Have a look at suncorp

    • Yeah 1.94% with $3k cash back looks good. Is there app any good?

      • I am in the process of migrating over to them so far good experience through private mortgage broker no issues..

Edit: My mortgage broker (sydney based) told me they had the highest satisfactions rate in terms of customer retention. ING was another one she pitched too me but said the app was a bit bland so Suncorp no annual fee too. If you are in Sydney want to chat to the broker I used I can provide details. They are located in Cabramatta found them through a friend to offer better deals then the stuck up brokers I used in 'Eastwood'. I don't know about others experience but i have found some brokers are slightly more racist then others when you ask for pricing discount etc. Paperwork isnt much for them but at least earn your money.

        • One thing I've learnt from refinancing 3 properties in my lifetime is that brokers often push a bank they have a better margin on. It is hard to find one that is willing to work to your requirements.

  • I'm with ING, hopefully you never have to call them because it's 30 mins listening to their shitty on hold music.

App, it shows me my balance and I can transfer funds, don't they all do that?

Not happy with their rates, at one point my owner occupier mortgage was higher than two of my investment loans from other lenders and they offered me some shitty reduction and reminded me I was on their package yeah which I'm paying 300 a year for.

I didn't care so much because loan was completely offset but it was the principal of the matter. Financing a PPOR upgrade with another lender and paying 80 bps less.

If you got a good deal that's great but keep tabs on it in case it stops being competitive

    • Thanks for your reply

I refinanced to ING May 2021, and have had no issues with them. Application process was very easy. I called them 6 months after refinancing to ask for a better rate, and they dropped it from 2.54% to 2.09% instantly.

    • That's for your reply. How is their app?

      • App is basic, simple swipe function to move account to account. One of the negatives, they send the same colored card (orange) for all accounts - offset, everyday, credit card etc.
