Amazon Finally Added a Group Delivery Option to Reduce Packages/Deliveries

Noticed it for the first time just now. Has anyone noticed it before today?

That would be a very positive step forward.

    • My order was only 2 items but it let me choose to group them together in one delivery delaying the order by one day. We'll see what happens when it arrives I guess.

thats always been there, when you order things with different lead times.
all free with prime anyway, so no big diff to get it all separately, other than the whole wastefulness/environmental destruction dealie

    • I've never noticed it before and I've order a lot of things from Amazon. I had over 200 orders last year alone and never saw it. Lots of packages arrived with just the one item inside.

yea tbh I'm not entirely sure when it comes up or not. its rare, but I've seen it pop up here and there.

        • It will depend on where the item is and if the second item has to move via the same fulfilment centre before getting boxed and sent to you. If not it's probably cheaper for them to send separately.

      • I don't see the option for packaging, but maybe because I just 'buy it now' for single options. I rarely use the shopping cart.

        • I'm not sure how it works. Maybe it only gets triggered sometimes when they know something is doing to be delayed. Over the hundreds of orders over the years today was the first time I had ever seen it.

  • Never seen the option but this will make .E continue prime

In the US buyer can choose the day of the week, haven't tried yet, guessing they combined shipment.

Ordered some stuff with free can of coke. Amazon delivers them separately. A can of coke in its own box! Face palm.

This combo shipment would lessen the packing wastage… and my time.

    • Yeah I had that too.

To top it off they also wrapped the can of coke in a huge plastic satchel bag before putting it into a box. Super wasteful.

  • I haven't noticed an option to consolidate packages for subscriptions. Any chance this is also included?

I thought this had always been a thing? I know I've known about it for years, but my orders typically come from a range of suppliers anyway so they usually turn up over more than one shipment anyway.

    • +1

Yep, pretty much. Nothing new although they may be expanding the range of items that they can offer this with.

I'm not waiting a single extra day for my jars of peanut butter or whatnot just to reduce number of packages.

  • I did this last week to try and reduce the number of deliveries i got - two items came together on the same day but in separate boxes lol. Third item got delayed and came through aus post. Bit of a fail lol. Why they put small items in such big boxes, and then talk about how they are reducing their packaging??

Speaking of reducing their packaging. I got 2 jars of peanut butter delivered from yesterday's deal. They didn't use any sort of bubble wrap or cushioning. The jars were inside seperate ziplock bags, but they were free to move as they pleased inside the box. Good thing they put a fragile sticker on the outside. I'm sure the bottles behaved and didn't move at all during the journey.

Surprised I didn't end up with two ziplock bags full of extra extra crunchy and somewhat spiky peanut butter.

  • Looks like they are expanding the roll out of Dragonfly for deliveries - seems to coincide with the grouping of deliveries

Never heard of it. Thanks for the info.

I ordered three items a few weeks ago and selected the option to have them all delivered together, "delaying" delivery of one item by one day. I ordered on a Monday.

Tuesday arvo: I receive an dispatch email stating: "We thought you'd like to know that we dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service, at no additional cost to you. The remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available." lol, kind of defeats the point

Tuesday evening: received dispatch email for the remaining items.

Wednesday: All items arrived at the same time, in two packages…

  • Normally not an environmentally conscious person, but I took the group delivery option and delayed delivery by a day.

"Normally not an environmentally conscious person"
      Curious as to why?

I love plastics and won't hesitant to use it. Plastic straws over paper or steel any day. Prefer foodstuffs to be individually wrapped.

The only major change I've made in recent years was bringing my own bags to the supermarket because I don't want to be paying for the bags, but it's a cost decision not an environmental decision. Otherwise it's business as usual.

I can't say I'm not disappointed that this mindset still exists today, even after all the evidence of harm that these types of choices do to the planet.
Society needs to be thinking altruistically, but I guess that's wishful thinking.

I deliberately order as many parcels as I can to get some great boxes and packing :)
eg I will not order 5 in one box . Will place the order on 5 different accounts and get 5 boxes .

Some of their largest boxes cost $8 to source else where .

    • I suppose if you need the boxes that's one way to get boxes. Most of ours just get put straight into the recycle bin

I want my Prime delivery, yesterday.

Get it delivered ASAP no matter how many virgin trees it takes.

  • I have opted for this every time - never yet had it honored if ordering multiple items - always come separately
