S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: SHADOW OF CHERNOBYL
Experience an immersive storyline seamlessly blended with a living, breathing, non-linear open-world environment governed by the revolutionary 'A-Life' system, in the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Steam game. This unique FPS combines action, stealth, survival and RPG elements to create an incomparable experience in the 'Zone'.

Featuring intense multiplayer action for up to 32 players, Shadow of Chernobyl puts players in the middle of a post-nuclear disaster with mutant enemies such as Bloodsuckers, Snorks and Pseudogiants - as well as the need to gather vital resources in order to survive.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: CLEAR SKY
A prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky takes gamers on a journey through the events leading up to its predecessor - with an advanced X-Ray 1.5 Engine and deepened weapon customization system among new features. Follow a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and even the Zone itself.

Witness events that led to the creation of the Zone, right up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins. Combining FPS and survival horror gameplay, you'll experience the thrilling post-nuclear vibes once again - or perhaps for the first time!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: CALL OF PRIPYAT
Venture across the largest playable area to date in the franchise with Call of Pripyat, the third installment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Continue the story from Shadow of Chernobyl and witness factions wars and hordes of mutated enemies - then take in your glorious photo-realistic surroundings and clear up any loose missions or areas to explore in free play mode.

With bandits, new mutant monsters, secret artifacts and hours of gameplay, gamers can immerse themselves in a formidable post-nuclear world once more

I've posted these links before, but it bears repeating that these are buggy games, and going into these without fixes isn't the best experience. As always, PC Gaming Wiki is your friend when it comes to troubleshooting games.

Zone Reclamation Project is a must for people getting into Shadow of Chernobyl. Not only does it provide bug fixes, but there's an included exe that lets you modify certain settings, including lowering the head bobbing, which originally gave me nausea.

Sky Reclamation Project is great too for Clear Sky. The swamps at the beginning can be a bit of a turn off for some people, there's a machine gun that's famously weak that's been beefed up slightly in this mod, as well as some bug fixes. Remember when leaving the swamp area that there's a big military presence on the other side. The game doesn't explicitly let you know, but there's an alternate exit that appears in the north side once you've entered back into the swamp map. You can avoid the military this way.

OpenXRay is an open source version of the X-Ray engine used for the STALKER series, and works great for Stalker - Call of Pripryat.

Don't want to pay cash but want to know what the fuss is about? Stalker Anomaly is a standalone mod that is set after the timeline of the original games. It's pretty much a free Stalker game made by modders. Play in different factions, sandbox, or story mode. Great also for those who're sick of the original games but want to mess around in something before Stalker 2 comes out.

    • You forgot STALKER - Lost Alpha!

A free fan made re-creation of STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

Sadly it's pretty much abandoned now, but was thoroughly enjoyable.
Can be a little buggy, not recommended for a first time exposure to the STALKER games.

Inspired by what STALKER was originally appearing to look like, with bigger levels etc.. based on a leak back during the development of the original STALKER.

Most stable versions were 1.3003 and 1.4004 as well as the most recent.
The most recent one (1.4007?) nerfed artefacts and loot caches pretty badly, thus might be worth looking to play 1.4004 if anyone is interested.

All round i'd have to say the STALKER games are some of the greatest of all time and I'd love to see more like it.
A great mixture of some RPG elements, some FPS elements and a great story line.

Despite it's age it's still golden.

I've not played the ZRP or SRP mods, i think i'll try them on my next play through.
My plays have been using the 'Complete' mods to buy out of some bugs.
Any thoughts on differences between 'Complete' and 'ZRP' mods?

Have also tried to get into Stalker 'MISERY' but for some reason when i die i can't access the menu and have to quit the game and restart it.
Was thinking i had some kind of permadeath mode on, but I'm not sure if there is one, and if there were, needing to quit the game completely to begin again seems overkill. Pretty sure I'm doing something wrong or encountering a bug.

      • The Zone Reclamation mods are pretty much vanilla gameplay with bug fixes, you can go into the patch-exe and tweak around damage values or head bobbing to suit to your liking but I like to keep everything as standard as possible. Complete tends to change the visuals a bit much for my tastes but some people swear by it.

    • Thanks for this, will give those mods a go.

Loved this series, such great atmosphere, now thank to this series the Zone is now a tourist attraction lol

      Looking forward to STALKER2

  • Great games and looking forward to the new one later this year

  • Graphics card killer game at the time!
