Where to Buy Affordable Tyres?

I need to buy 3 SUV tyres, mid range value.

Has anyone tried Tyroola? Are they legit and send you good quality stock? Have you had any issues to get them fitted?

Is there any other affordable place in Melbourne?

Tyroola tyres is $50 dlr per tyre cheaper than My Car and $100 than my usual mechanic that's why considering.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Wait for a Bridgestone 'buy 3 get 1 free' sale.

    • How often do they do this sale?

      I can't wait long. Thanks

    Check the date of manufacture.
I've never bought from anywhere like Tyroola, etc or anything similar, but if I did, I personally wouldn't accept anything more than a year old.

    • Genuine question, how does the manufacturing date being a couple of years back would affect the quality?

I actually did see mostly good reviews about this company but I saw one complaining about a 2018 manufacturing date for tyres received in 2021.

how does the manufacturing date being a couple of years back would affect the quality?

Rubber hardens over time and it's recommended that tyres get inspected regularly after 5 years for cracks etc. and should be replaced after 10 years. So if you get a set of tyres that were manufactured a few years ago, you could potentially lose that time. Especially if you don't drive a lot.

        • Ohh, OK. Need to get newer ones then. Thanks!

Tyres harden over time. You would likely get better mileage out of the harder tyres but less grip.

The side walls will slowly degrade over time as well. Look at a 5 or 6 year old tyre and you will see micro splits developing on the sidewalls.

        • Yes,will then shorten the time I can have them. Thanks!

I bought from Tyroola in the past. The experience was fine. Ordered a set of cheap Chinese tyres and arrived at the tyre shop in 2 days. 30000km in and they still have half the tread.

When you buy from them you have to choose which tyre shop you want to fit your tyres and alignment, and the prices are different at each shop.

What tyres do you want? Cheap, average or quality? Affordable means different things to different people. That’ll make the biggest difference in cost. Then you can start comparing prices.

I got some tyres today. Decided to try out the cheaper brand that were about $60 cheaper each than the average brand. Apparently the boss had same brand tyres on his car, so that was enough recommendation. Was also willing to compromise a little on tyres due to it being a second vehicle mostly driven in city without the whole family

    • I am after Kumho which seems to be mid-range price but I do drive in highway a lot. If I used it less would go for cheaper ones.

Bob Jane is my go-to place for KO2s. They’ll price match anyone, have decent offers for cheaper tyres and really good service.

    • +1

Those tyres are ridiculously unbalanced and heavy. Many other better options available.

      • They're A/Ts for offroading.

        • Yes I know. They aren't all that great for the money vs other options on the market.

        • Perfect for a Kia Sorrento then.

      • What do you recommend?

        • +3

          Recommend for what?

No one should be recommending a tyre without make and model of car, kms travelled, city vs highway vs gravel travel, load of vehicle including towing, preference for longevity, cost, grip or noise.

          • @Euphemistic: Um, I'm replying to bamboozle who stated there are many better tyres than KO2s. So I'm asking what they are.

            • @kizzy: Fair enough. There’s plenty to choose from. Almost every brand has a similar tyre. I’ve had Toyo Open country and thought they were decent. Hankooks dynapro I bought second hand were pretty ordinary (noisy, less grip), but may have been too old. IMO it’s a fairly personal preference, tyre shop sold me toyo, I’ll robably stick with them.

Note: anyone on YouTube with a ‘channel’ that raves about how good their choice of tyres is getting them VERY cheap.

    • Will Bob Jane price match sort of online stores?

This Tyroola place says that you buy online, then they send it to a local fitter which is a normal tyre shop/mechanic sort of thing to fit and do wheel balancing.

      • +2

You'll need to ask them, pop in and give them a quote you got. See what they offer.

They pricematched the KO2s for me and offered free alignment and balancing for doing all 4 tyres (usually $99). They also give you a 3 months later free checkup and rotation afterwards too.

I've had good service from them and they even did my boat trailer tyres way cheaper than anyone else.

        • I will definitely give it a try. Thanks!

I usually find the best price for whichever tyre I'm after online, then get a local store to price match it. Most will. My local Bridgestone will price match tyroola, tyresales, costco

    • Will give it a try. Thanks!

    Get a quote from Costco.

Wait for the annual 50% off on Pirellis via myCar every Black Friday

    • Good one, but unfortunately can't wait that long. Thanks

    Why 3?

    • -1

OP has a Mr Bean car.

      • +2

Mr Bean's car has 4 wheels..

The Reliant Robin on the other hand…..

        • +1

          Oh, that's what I meant, been a while 😂

          • @John Kimble: haha, still curious, why the OP needs 3 tyres.

            • @JimB: Rotating in a spare tyre? Recently replaced a tyre due to damage? Expecting to buy 3 and get one free? Pressed the 3 button instead of the one next to it?

              • @Euphemistic: Haven’t seen a regular SUV that didn’t use a different tyre for a spare in a looooong time.

            • @JimB: Hahaha.

On my last car servicing the mechanic said only 3 need changing, the other one is still good.

If I get 3 for 4 or discount for 4 I would definitely buy them and keep the old 4th one as spare.

              • +3

@Cherry12: Unless your ‘good’ tyre is less 2 years old and in new condition, it doesn’t make sense to use old and new tyre in the same axle. Plus you shouldn’t mix different tyres on each axle, the tyres should be exactly the same.

Also In 2-3 years you’ll have a fully worn tyre and 3 half worn tyres.

                I’ll get 4 new tyres.

                • @JimB: Yes I will better get the 4 tyres altogether.

                  Thanks!

              • @Cherry12: Get 2 or 4 tyres unless your ‘good’ tyre is less than 1-2 years or 15k km old.

im about to pull the trigger on Winrun R330's https://www.tempetyres.com.au/tyreproducts?winrun-2255518-98…

Just drive to the conditions and you'll be fine.

    • They are so cheap! Too bad I'm in VIC and their shops in NSW. They have one in Dertimut but it's just wholesale.

      • They are so cheap

        That's because they are rubbish.

  • I bought tyres through the Supercheap portal (which is one of the online sellers back end).

    It was easy and seamless.
Tyres delivered to my chosen fitter. Appointment made for fitment. All very pleasant.

Don't forget that there may be delivery fees and definitely fitting costs.

Thanks everyone! I got a local shop to match price Tyroola so will change all the tyres at once.
