EGO Lawn Mower Recommendation

A few weeks ago I ended up getting an EGO whipper snipper and blower combo with ozbargain's recommendation. They are both beasts and I absolutely love them.

Time to get a lawn mower now, thinking of this one. Any better EGO alternatives? Something more bang for its buck?

It’s a beast! Got mine from Masters when they first opened and it has been trouble free. So easy to use, no fuel storage needed. Standard 600 sq mtr suburban block with front and back lawn and nature strip easily handled in one charge, and sometimes I do the neighbours nature strip too. Handles long grass easily and has a decent cut width. I’ve no idea how that price compares with other options though.

    • is that really true? looking at the battery specs they only last 35 minutes. how did you manage to do this under 35 minutes. I have a massive 600sqm block with no house that needs mowing and my petrol 21 inch mowers takes less than 2hrs do complete the job?

      • Only takes me 20 minutes front and back. The block size includes house, paving, sheds. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

        • with the house makes it like 350sq metres left over for the lawn ye? make sense if it is half of that size for the lawn.

Hi, how much lawn do you have to mow? I have the select cut and couldn’t be more impressed with it. Mow approx 350m2 of Sir Walter. So seeing as you already have the blower, my recommendation would be to get the package and sell the blower. The best Ego mower available in Aus will then only cost approx $900. Comes with a 7.5a battery and fast charger.

I have the mower, blower and trimmer. Couldn’t be happier, just waiting for Amazon to have the edger available and will get that also.

Definitely better than getting a petrol powered one then?

I have that same mower with the 7.5Ah for my sloping 1/4 acre. Its fantastic.

The 7.5Ah will do it all on one charge if its not left too long. The 5Ahs I have wont do it but I have 2 of those.

Just check out the cutting width (go to Bunnings or somewhere and check out the sizes) so you know how big it is. I have the 50cm one and for my lawn size (270m2) am glad I went that size.

My last mower was smaller and it was annoying hah

    • bunnings don't stock them you would have to go to total tools or agpower

  • Consider the Stihl 510, they have a self propelled and non self propelled and have great reviews, Choice recommended. I've even seen a few contractors using them.

    • Having two different batteries seems a bit of a waste. If you already have a battery, having two is not a bad thing.

consider stihl if you don’t already have any decent battery garden tools.

    • Wow the stihl looks nearly identical to ego, especially the line trimmer

  • Save up for the Ego Z6.

  • I've had the dual cut ego for over an year now. It's so much better than the one I got from masters. In saying that I think it depends on my your needs. For anything under 1000 I would suggest top line ego. Anything above go ride on.

This topic has come up before and I'll say what I said then. I have the Ego 56v mower and it is 100% excellent. Put some music on the headphones and mow away. I'd never go back to a petrol mower.

    • I love the smell of 2-stroke in the morning.

  • I have the EGO eco system. My EGO is not blinding me when i say, the MOWER is SHIT.

30 year old 2 stroke VICTA with sardine lids for blades, cuts better.

Does any mower, petrol or battery, match the cutting power of a 30 year old Victa 2 stroke? You may have to lower your expectations of more modern mowers.

Even better, the 60yo (or more) victa with no catcher or chute, just a round plate over the blades with full throttle control. Wind the rope around the starter and hope you didn’t whip yourself when it let go. No recoil in those babies. Head into some thicker grass and give it a gutful and into it.

Used to love revving it right up, then back to nothing and as it was running back down you’d give it full throttle and get a satisfying backfire and puff of smoke.

  • Asked the same question a year ago when looking to buy an electric mower. I was lucky enough to try out an Ego and Stihl mower, I found the Stihl better in cut quality. But in the end I actually bought the Toro 60v battery recycler. It's a beast, 56cm cutting deck, metal body, fire engine red (looks awesome) but what I love most is the personal pace system, it's different to other self propelled systems, it adjusts the speed by how fast you walk.

The EGO 56v mower, while not cheap (I have the top of the range one), is awesome and is lighter and cuts better than my petrol B&S engined mower ever did. Love it. If you've got the sniper/blower then go the mower as well, will make it easy being able to use the same batteries/charger etc. Easy to clean, can store upright, there's nothing not to like about it.

  • Beast all right…. I mean the PRICE!
Is the battery compatible with other devices…. otherwise you will have a shed full of batteries.

  • how big is your lawn?
I had trouble with my masters ego which was the small one when masters closed down. Didn't work well with slopes.

Bought LM2135E-SP last year and its been working a treat. Sold my old one after 5 years.
I think when going electric you have to be realistic. Even with the top of line one I can't cut wet grass, nor can I cut knee high grass without doing 2-3x mows. But for your every day mow it's unbeatable for the convenience.

  • I bought the then currently available model - 42cm, now discontinued - in Masters closing down sale in late 2016. I wasn't intending to, but I was in there checking out the bargains on a Friday arvo and they had a wall of them just reduced to 90% off!!! It was the last day or so before they closed forever. Cost me about $300 as I recall for the mower, a blower and an extra 7.5Ah battery.

Five and a bit years later and it's still keeping my lawns looking great. And in that time I've not had to buy any petrol, oil, spark plugs, and best of all my wife loves it because she can start it with no problems. So I get to sleep in on a Sunday morning while she cuts the lawn! :D

If and when it dies, I'll certainly be heading to Total Tools for another one.

    • sooooo lucky,

looking to get one now and around 1k never considered spending more than $400 for a lawn mower before

      • It really is a great machine. Been raining for days 'round here so the lawn was looking a bit untidy. And wet. I used the mulcher attachment today, rather than the bag and it just fires all the cuttings out and off to the side. So it handles fairly wet lawn quite well too, way better than my old Victa did.

I agree 1k is a lot of money for a mower (the $800 one is the closest current model to mine) but in my 6 years of having one, no cost for fuel, oil, spark plugs and any servicing. I reckon I'm well ahead!
