VINTAGE: The 2021 growing season has been widely recognised as a once in a generation vintage, with perfect growing conditions in McLaren Vale.

STORY: "Growing up, I spent many happy days watching the cricket with family and friends. Today, my family and I still love the game, especially while enjoying a glass of wine with friends at Adelaide Oval’s very own ‘Village Green’.

The artwork on this front label is called ‘In My Day’ and was painted by renowned English artist Terry Harrison, featuring the Village Green in Hurstbourne Priors. It reminds my husband Richard of growing up in Yorkshire and spending long summer days watching cricket at the county’s village greens.

This McLaren Vale Shiraz is youthful and vibrant with notes of plums, black cherries, and a hint of spice. I hope it brings you as many fond memories as the Village Green, in all its forms, has brought us!", Bec Hardy.

VINEYARDS: Mainly sourced from the Klavenik vineyard in a higher, slightly cooler part of McLaren Vale, close to Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills, picked in April. A small parcel from the Howlett vineyard on the outskirts of Willunga completes the wine. Bottled early December.

OAK: Six months in mainly older French oak.

CELLARING: Drink now to 2027

  • Do you have any of the 12pk Sauvignon Blanc 2021 for sale?

    • +4

Sorry, sold out domestically, rest on it's way to the USA. Next vintage release August 2022 (vintage willing!). Really sorry that some of these deals can come and go so fast.Cheers! RD :-)

  • +8

$210/12pk from Dans on member special so $132 here is nice saving

    • Ah ha. Nice spot. Didn’t even know it was on there! Enjoy. RD :-)

    • +1

Looks like delivery-only from Dan's, so a marketplace thing like Kogan or Amazon, not actually sold by Dans.
Ships direct from Bechardy, but Woolworths gets a big cut?

      • Correct. The team have a number of products listed on Dan's (this clearly amongst them). I think Dan's must randomly do 'Member's Pricing' - not an area of the business I'm generally across but @Manic you seem to have it pretty much right I think. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Endeavour Drinks…. not Woolies (Woolies sold this part of the business last year)

  • Thanks Op any chance of free shipping on the other deals?

    • +1

I think the OZBARGAIN code might work. Let me know if not. Free shipping either way on orders over $150. Cheers RD :-)

  • Looks much better than the 12 for $30 for which I was a bastard for assuming sucked :)

    • +1

Ha ah. Thanks! Cheers RD :-)

    • +2

Yeah massive regretting those $35 purchases, its undrinkable even if I get paid to drink it.

      • +2

lol you are getting downvoted for saying that. That deal has a bizarre level of defense from people.

        • +1

Ah look, you're right, there is a market for those kind of wines. It's not what where we choose to play but they have their place most certainly. Happy drinking! RD :-)

      • Which deal??

  • Nice deal ! Is it possible to buy X6 with the code? Can find a 6pack on the website and when i go to check out 6 bottles, it tells me that the coupon is invalid? Cheers

    • Sorry not this time around but certainly will keep in mind for the future! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks, grabbed a pack.

    • Thanks @Kaykay4. Appreciate the support. RD :-)

  • 2021 …..even has bottle age ….. any idea how long it was in barrel ?

    • +2

6 months in mainly older French oak. The style is Southern Rhone, younger, lighter, fresher, more fruit. A stylistic contrast to our Pertaringa range of more oak in our Undercover, Over The Top and Yeoman Shiraz. A range of styles, something for everyone. Cheers! RD :-)

    • March and April are the harvest season for Shiraz so it spent some of 2021 after that in a barrel.

      • +1

Yep. Picked from mainly from the Klavenik vineyard in a higher, slightly cooler part of McLaren Vale, close to Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills in April. A small parcel from the Howlett vineyard on the outskirts of Willunga completes the wine. Bottled early December. Hope that helps . Cheers! RD :-)

  • awesome deal. Grabbed a dozen. Can’t wait to try

    • Thanks @druksi! You won't be disappointed. All the best RD :-)

  • +3

First time it's happened, but my PayPal payment for the deal is flagged for review by PayPal for verification.

    • Yes, occasionally happens for some reason. All good. Resolves itself within 24 hours without intervention. All good. Thanks for the order. RD :-)

    • +3

I have had this as well on this purchase. First time ever haha

      • I think everyone that has paid by Paypal so far has had it, judging by the notifications coming through to us. All good though resolves itself at some point. Usually overnight. Cheers! RD :-)

        • Yeah I’m not to worried at all. :)

    • +1

      Same

    • +1

Add another one to the paypal verification. I'd be worried if I was the only one.

      • +1

You're the rule not the exception, I have no idea today why :-)

  • Just ordered a dozen. Cannot wait to try. Thanks

    • Thanks @Seekbargain2009. You'll love it I hope. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Hoping these are screwcap ? Ive just finished the last few bottles of Pertaringa Shiraz from an OZB sale a while back and they were a PITA being corks. sometimes I would take with me to a friends house and they didnt have a bottle opener. will give a dozen a go regardless.

    • +2

      Screwcap confirmed. Cheers! RD :-)

    • I think all UK wines are screw-cap like here, no?

Would cork have been for the Asian market?

      • +4

Broadly speaking, cork is the preferred closure in mainland Europe, Asia, US. In Australia around 87% of wines are sealed under screwcap. Australia very much pioneered the screwcap closure with trials by some of the major companies including our own former family business (Hardys) going back into the 40s and 50s. There's acceptance of both closures in the UK market given the success of both European and Australian wines in market.

Hope that helps as an overview. RD :-)

        • What is the other 13%? Exports and sparkling?

          • @bargaino: Yes, predominantly cork I would suggest. Though alternate closures such as zork or glass do exist. :-)

      • some wines like DOC Chianti is under cork except for some export markets, most real french red burgundies of renown are under cork, australia was at the forefront of moving wine to cork so we seem to be more used to premium wines under screw cap …. in some markets screw cap is regarded as cheap …… like crown seal on champagne bottles …..people love that cork ….. and grange …..

get a cork screw incase a friend brings around the grange or bottle of romanee conti or petrus…..

    • Grab an ah-so bottle opener. More expensive than a $2 corkscrew, but changed my cork opening life.

  • Thanks OP. Have got Bec Hardy wines before, our go to at home (particularly the 2019 shiraz) IMHO better than Barossa producers at a significantly lower price point.

    • +1

Kind words and high praise indeed. Great wines with a wonderful price to quality ratio and a unique and compelling story of heritage is precisely where we like to be. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Ordered 2 dozen thanks Richard.

At the younger stage are you a fan of this slightly chilled on a warm afternoon, or would you pair with something like a herbed chicken or bbq pork chops?

    I'll figure it out I'm sure. :)

    • +1

Hi @madbison - yeah, the latter. Certainly wouldn't be at its best heavily chilled but a European room temperature and some of the dishes you suggest would be perrrrfection! Thanks for the order. Enjoy. Richard :-)

  • Are we able to pickup or delivery only?

    • You are more than welcome to order online for 'Click & collect' but it's not available at cellar door as part of this deal - other than for C&C. Order today, ready to collect from Monday onwards. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Thanks will do

        • Winner. Thanks for the order Geoff. See you at Pertaringa next week I hope. Richard :-)

  • thought 50% off mclaren cars

    • ah ha. Yes, please alert me to that deal when you see it! Cheers. RD :-)

  • Should these be left to age?

  • They'll go a few years but the style we've made this in is very much a drink now style. Best enjoyed young and fresh. Other wines in our portfolio predominantly from our Pertaringa range are made for aging. Drink now until 2027. Hope that helps. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Hey Richard what would you give this on Vivino :)

    • +1

haha - great question. I'll leave that to Vivino users. But do I drink every wine we make at home? No. Am I smashing this one? Yes. Brought six bottles home one Friday. Our winemaker BecS, took three dozen for her Dad a few days ago… Enjoy mate! Richard :-)

  • I really don't need any more wine, but I can't resist.

The illustrations around the newsletter sign up and scattered around the site are gorgeous. Where do they come from?

    • +1

Thanks @jebrdra. From Bec and I (Richard) inspired by the property at Tipsy Hill where we live and the spiritual home of Bec Hardy and our main brand, Pertaringa. It has been brought to life by Denise Faulkner - watercolor artist - from NSW. The story of this particular label, painted by renown UK artist, Terry Harrison is above. Enjoy. RD :-)

      • Thanks for the reply. Love the name of your property and Denise is very talented.

I notice reading the description that you're from Yorkshire - my birthplace.

If only it was always as pictured on the label My enduring memories are of being snowed in during winter and walking to school in the dark and sleet, but for all that I loved it.

        • Thanks for the reply. Yes, Tipsy Hill was named by the previous owners and it is named after a rose planted in the 2 acres gardens called Tipsy Imperial Concubine. It's a rose named after one of the four beauties of ancient China, Yang Guifei.

It is said the perfume from the rose made her feel light headed or Tipsy.

The pattern, designed by Bec, reflects the flora and fauna of the property. We had Denise bring it to life and the original hangs in the wine room here at Tipsy Hill.

Yes, from Yorkshire originally, twenty years ago. It is a lovely part of the world - most of it.

Hope you enjoy the wine. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Bought a dozen and I am not from Yorkshire. I am from London!

    • +1

Love you work @Madbro. Thanks for that. Bec lived in Chelsea for a few years, we often hang out in some of her old neighborhood when we go back - well back in the olden days when travel was easier! All the best RD :-)

      • I was a black London Cab driver back in the day so know Chelsea well, but do not support the football club!

        • +1

Best cab drivers in the world! As a Doncaster Rovers fan, I usually avoid football talk ;-)

  • Be hardy like baccardi tooo? 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

    • +1

Is the question does Bec Hardy like bacardi too? No, she doesn't drink it but it was her nickname at school. :-)

  • Ordered a dozen… thanks OP!

    • @v2 a pleasure. Thanks for the order! Tell your friends, spread the word! Enjoy RD :-))

  • Bought a couple dozen - couldn’t resist.

    • Legend! Enjoy. RD :-)

      • Received today! Very fast delivery. Just finished our first bottle. Delicious! Great price for a very nice drop

        • Winner! Always love that kind of feedback. Thank you. Out of interest you in SA or VIC?
          Enjoy. RD :-)

  • Have you anyChardonnay on special you can tempt me with>

    • +1

Hi Madbro. All of our deals always listed at www.wineshedsale.com.au

There is a cheeky Chardonnay there at a good price. Cheers! RD :-)

      • Thanks RD, I was going to buy a dozen but was told I would have to pay freight on the Chardonnay even though I have bought the Shiraz and they could be sent together. A shame but rulz are rulz I suppose. Unless you could help me out as an OB and cabbie? :-)

        • +1

I can make that work. Please PM me your original order number, then place the order for the Chardonnay. I'll fix it up and provide a bit of counselling at this end. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks bought a dozen. Any relation to Ox Hardy?

  • Yep, Bec and Ox are cousins once removed. Cheers! RD :-)

  • has it expired? link not working

  • thanks. it was my mobile app

    • Alls well that ends well. Enjoy and thank you. RD :-)

  • Richard - any (extra) good deals coming up on the sparkling, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Sav Blanc or even Merlot? Been ordered by wife to get some more and I do what I'm told.

    • +1

      Always a few export/bin-ends at www.wineshedsale.com.au

Mourvedre coming to the end of its time in there. Sauv Blanc likely not back in there as the rest is off to the US (global shortage of SB!)

Have a wine club event tonight at Tipsy Hill and you're suggestion about the Shiraz Tempranillo will be perfect for s summer evening! You've made me thirsty now!!!
      Swing away!
      Cheers
      RD :-)

  • I just received my order today. The quality is quite average, it’s ok with $11 per bottle not $22.
I might pick some under wraps from Dan which are better.
You can smell that much alcohol that shouldn’t be with $20+ per bottle.
Honestly, it is quite similar quality to Pepper Jack @$15-16,
Unfortunately I have to go through 12 bottles.

    • Hi Seek.sorry it’s not to your taste. Happy for you to send the other 11 bottles back. Interesting that you feel the alcohol is high in a wine where the alcohol is deliberately low.
Keep going on the Dan’s Under Wraps as we have a few in there!
      Cheers!
      RD :-)

      • Got mine today and found it surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Not sure with old mate is on about. A bit of a alcohol smell there but its a young wine. Stick it in the cellar for a few years and then come back and say the same.

        • It’s a terrific wine (from a great vintage) in a lighter, younger, Southern European style. It’s best enjoyed young and fresh - a joven style. It’s deliberately not a long-term cellaring proposition. Glad to hear you are enjoying. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Got our 12 today. I'll try it tonight and see how we go. Hopefully it taste good! I'm used to drinking church block/pepperjack so that's my rough guide/hope for this wine since RRP is similar pricing.

    • I've not drunk Pepperjack for a long time but I'd guess its stylistically similar to Church Block, both being from McLaren Vale, similar price point. They're also the nearest cellar door to ours but you won't taste that. Enjoy tonight. Cheers! RD :-)

      • The wine was good thank you. Are there any more deals?

        • +1

Thanks @budju. This one is still going but there’s a few others around if you check out our store. Cheers! RD :-)
