Took me a few minutes to figure out that the code only works for physical gift cards and not digital. D'oh! I should read the title and description properly next time ;)

    • All good, yep physical cards only for this one :)

  • Thanks for sharing op! Definitely good timing and always a good plus with trees (:

  • How secure if $2000 worth of gift card send by mail?

    • +7

Last time they did this I received them via registered post envelope which included tracking. If you don't automatically get sent the tracking # via email, just contact their support to ask for the tracking #.

      • Good to know

    • +1

Should be no problem, the cards needs to be activated before you can use them.

      • Yep this is the fun part, re-typing your info several times to activate each card individually!

      • +1

Do you have to register them to make them work or is it just so if you lose it they can issue you a replacement?

  • +10

Spoilt by 15% off thanks to coles, but great deal

    • When?

    • Waiting for this again

  • +2

Can I still use these physical cards online? I heard you can't convert them to JB anymore etc.

    • +1

Why there is any need ro convert when you can directly use that card at jbhifi

      • +1

        Uh, to use it online?
Or can I use these cards to purchase from JB's online store?

        • no, you can use physical cards at store only.

        • +2

You can swap it for a jbhifi code to use online, they probably updated it as I remember it was instore only the last time I purchased.

          https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/the-home-card

Scroll down to how to use and choose jbhifi.

You cannot use TCN gift cards to directly pay for any online orders at any of the participating retailers, as they are EFTPOS gift cards, and the EFTPOS network cannot support online transactions at this stage.

However, TCN has a gift card exchange facility where you can redeem part or all of the gift card’s balance for digital gift cards at some of the participating retailers (and you seem to be aware of this). If you go to the webpage for the TCN gift card(s) you are purchasing (e.g. TCN Home), you’ll see in the How To Use section that you can currently exchange TCN gift cards for digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

      • I managed to successfully use a Teen TCN at Kathmandu and it even tracked with Cashback. From memory the expiry was be 01/2025 or 12/2025.
Edit: looks like they don't do Kathmandu so I'm not sure it was TCN afterall.

        • It sounds like you were using the Ultimate Students (Visa) gift card? They have Kathmandu as a participating retailer, and they're the only TCN or Ultimate gift card that includes Kathmandu.

Thanks… got the baby one… first child expected July. No idea what I need to buy, but i've heard there is a lot!

    • +4

Keep an eye out for nappy and baby wipe discounts. You’ll go through so so many.

      • Sounds like a good starting point… is there a particular ozb recommended brand to keep an eye out for?

        • +4

I'd recommend non fragrance wipes. Water Wipes are good but expensive - best to use for wiping face or hands. Occasional discounts here and there. Otherwise we find the Coles Cub Branded Wipes are decent and cheap - sale $2 a pack. We find some other brands can be kinda soapy. Amazon Prime is really handy for baby stuff.

          • @jason2615: after going through a few brands, we now use Rascal & Friends nappies(cos of their size) but I suggest to start with Huggies or Mamia for first 2-3 months.

          • @jason2615: Sometimes Coles have boxes of 6 packs of Cub branded wipes for $10. They're great and it's what we use… when you can find them.

          • @jason2615: Similar to us. Water wipes for bums, Cole's Cubs for everywhere else.

A tip for anyone interested in ordering from card.gift: do not use any disposable cards or prepaid Visa/Mastercard gift cards or any other cards that do not support 3D Secure.

Card.Gift will let you complete an order using one of these cards and place a hold on your funds, but then manually cancel the order later on (usually the next day) and will give you a generic message to inviting you to place your order again using details that match the cardholder’s information. The hold on your funds will eventually be released, but in my experience, it took about a day before my funds were available again.

If Card.Gift don’t accept these kinds of cards, surely it would be less hassle on everyone’s part to simply decline the card in the first place? Whatever…

  • I’ve never used TCN but interested in using it to buy a new iPhone (current one on last legs). Do you guys just buy the HIM card for $x phone value and then claim in store at JB? Online card would have been ideal but I can live with in store for a 10% discount.

    • +1

Do you guys just buy the HIM card for $x phone value and then claim in store at JB?

      Yes

      • Thanks. Seems like the best discount I'm going to get these days to try and buy a new iPhone Pro model. Last time I bought was years ago during the real eBay % off sales. Pity those eBay sales are a waste of time now.

        • +1

It’s a relatively decent discount, although Coles and Woolworths also recently had 10% off deals on a handful of TCN gift cards, and you didn’t have to pay or wait for postage.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Agreed, they seem to be doing it every few months. If you can hold on do it this way. Plus I'm pretty sure you will gain flybuys/rewards using this method which would make it a few dollars cheaper again.

    • Don't forget to barter a discount in person too

  • +1

Can these be used online after conversion?

  • +1

    Dam, physical card only

  • +4

    10%, physical, delivery fee.

    I am not interested.

  • +5

If only these were digital :( id be all over these. I think the staff at jb hifi would also appreciate it lol.

    • Do these cards come in one card of whatever value you select? I'm thinking of getting enough for an iPhone and it would be annoying if I had to redeem a whole stake of small denomination cards.

      • digital ones can be up too $500 but no sale. The ones on sale are Physical $50 and $100 dominations gift cards which can be a little long winded swipping each one.

        • Thanks. Didn't realise only $50 or $100's. Thats a bit annoying.

In the post above it mentions you can convert TCN online into JB Online cards. I could buy a bunch of $100s TCN and convert them myself into multiples of JB Online cards right?

          • @jason2615: im pretty sure you can only exchange a $100 tcn gift card for a $100 jb hifi card so no point. Its not too bad just remove all the gift cards from the packaging and scratch the codes off before going in. I did this when i bought a $2000 tv lol.

    • Yep the postage kills it for me

    • I just bought iPhone, the staff was quite pissed. Cuz I had 17 cards and it took nearly 5 minutes maybe more

    • The JB HiFi staff couldn’t care less.. if anything you are creating a job.

  • how long is delivery? will the iphone 13 still be on sale by the time the physical card is delievereD?

  • How do they even make money off these deals?

    • I believed they might have rebate/commission more than 10% or they could invest with return more than 10% before you spending it

      • also not 100% of gift card purchased would be used, ideally, if they keep selling, they never lose.

  • is that TCN or something related?

          No.

And before someone asks about LPG or hydrogen or whatever other fuel source you can get from a service station, the answer is no.

Yes. Diesel is included on the ‘Him’ card.

Because these are EFTPOS and they refund eftpos to cash (or back to EftPOS) just buy something expensive at JBhifi, and return it and the funds will be returned to you as cash (or an EFTPOS credit to the banking institution of your choice). Ka-ching.

  • $2.95 delivery fee.
Very good deal if you intend to buy few gc and stack

  • Thanks OP, got 10x$100 to use for a required purchase at jbhifi

Can JB HI FI reject customers for purchasing with 20 x $100 gift cards? From what I recall they had the right to reject when the 15% TCN discount fiesta was happening

    • +4

The clause in TCN’s gift card terms and conditions that limited redemptions of TCN gift cards to $500 per transactions was scrapped a couple of days after the 15% off TCN gift card deal at Coles in 2020.

There are plenty of examples of OzBargainers redeeming 10 or 20 or 30 or 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards in one transaction at JB Hi-Fi in more recent times, so you should be fine if you are looking to redeem 20x $100 gift cards in one transaction. However, my suggestions are:

      • “Prepare” the gift cards before you get to the store by removing the gift cards from the cardboard packaging and scratching to reveal PINs. I didn’t do that when I used 2x Ultimate gift cards at JB Hi-Fi a while ago, and it really slowed down the checkout process (and I could tell the staff member at the checkout was not exactly thrilled with me).

      • Try to go during the a quieter time where there are relatively few customers if you can, as you’ll be tying up one staff member and one checkout for a few minutes when redeeming 20x gift cards.

My concern is that if lots of people go to JB Hi-Fi and don’t do either, staff may get cranky enough to complain to JB Hi-Fi head office, and then JB Hi-Fi will start limiting per-transaction redemptions again (or store managers may unilaterally start doing that).

      • I was wondering if we can use TCN gift cards to purchase apple gift cards at JB HIFI? and if so, is there a limit on how much you can purchase using the TCN or is there no limit like buying other items?
I want to buy apple gift cards and use it to buy something at apple edu store cause it's cheaper.

        Thank you

        • +1

You can essentially never buy gift cards with gift cards.

          • @HecticCrunt: Coles also had this rule but, there was one time I used gift cards to buy TCN gift cards at coles. The cashier noticed it just as I was about swipe my card and said it wouldn't work but, I swiped it anyway and it worked, she seemed surprised too and laughed.
From other comments, it sounds like the same applies at jb as long as you meet the right staff.
            Thanks for the reply though.

        • +1

I have before. One staff member said "you can't buy gift card with gift cards" I explained that likely only for buying JB gift cards. Another one asked the manager and they said it was ok.

        • +1

          It is at staff discretion.

The only restriction on the use of TCN or Ultimate gift cards at JB Hi-Fi (as dictated by JB Hi-Fi head office) is that they cannot be used for purchases of JB Hi-Fi gift cards. However, there's nothing in the JB Hi-Fi sales systems to stop you from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards (or even JB Hi-Fi gift cards) to purchase Apple gift cards, and they'll treat TCN or Ultimate gift cards the same as any other debit/credit/prepaid EFTPOS/Visa/Mastercard/AMEX card.

You may find that staff at a store would be reluctant to let you do that, but from other OzBargainers' experience, staff will let you do this if you're not trying to spend a large amount on Apple gift cards in one transaction.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: But what if i have a tax debt and have to send it via apple gift cards :(

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for the reply, i guess it comes to finding the right staff.

    • +1

Pick a store not in a busy area, go at 2pm on a weekday etc when there arent queues, and they'll be fine and happy to help. I did 30 last time and someone has done 80+, if anything just come back later or head to the next store.

  • +1

I'm guessing they don't make the restaurant cards anymore?

  • For Home card eg it says acceptable at Temple & Webster, how would you use the physical card if the store is only on-line sale, umm?

  • "My family" bought 4 digital cards from a previous promo. 3 worked and 4th didn't - money got charged but code never arrived. I emailed they said it didn't go thru and was cancelled and wouldn't believe the screenshot with 4 transactions. Had to go thru charge back with my cc provider, took months and they are still trying to fight the charge back (yes, that's after saying I was never charged in the first place). Unlucky? Yeah, but something that has put me off from dealing with these guys again - my time is worth more.

  • Any Woolworths , coles , MasterCard/visa gift card here?

    • +4

      No.

If that was the case, OzBargain would be in meltdown.

  • Anyone have their order cancelled? Placed an order last night for $2k using a standard credit card for it to be cancelled this morning.

    • Yep, got an email this morning saying that my order was cancelled. Ordered about $1k using a standard card too.

    • Mine got canceled. $2k

    • Yep got an email this morning that my order has been canceled.

  • +1

yep my order got cancelled as well

    • What was the reason?

      • Nothing specific - unable to fulfil your order message via email

  • +1

    Same here, order cancelled.

  • Did anyone have success purchasing.

  • I bought 1.8k this morning. Fingers crossed

    • That's the amount I bought last night but then i got an order cancellation email this morning. Hope you have better luck.

  • Mine got cancelled as well.

  • Mine was cancelled too.

  • +1

Anyone know why they’re cancelling? Was planning to place an order tonight

    • +3

The email I got said, "We’re emailing to inform you that we are unable to fulfill this order, and your credit card has not been charged. We take security very seriously, and a major part of that is ensuring that orders are placed by the legitimate cardholder. This keeps our customers, other credit card holders and card gift safe. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify this purchase, and it was declined out of caution." Not really sure what that means…maybe they are cancelling larger transactions and that's their excuse?

  • Ordered $2000 of Home just then.

Received confirmation email and also the Invoice PDF immediately.
