        10% or bust

        • new to this…
how did you calculate it was 10% off?

you pay $106 for the GC - so more than that value you are getting (ie. $100). Is there some redemption with the every day rewards point or something?

          Where is the 10%?

          • @ontoastrye: oh nah i meant my preferred threshold would be a min 10% off discount/deal

apparently this one is more like ~4% as others have said

    • It might not be a lot, but it's an honest livin

    • So like 4% off?

  • +7

FYI those Westfield gift cards are just EFTPOS gift cards. They can be used anywhere EFTPOS is accepted (don't have to be used inside a Westfield)

    • +1

Oh I didn't know that.. maybe this is an ok promo after all

      • +1

I didn't known that either, that's great for those that need to reach minimum spending with credit cards.

    • +8

I wouldn’t phrase it that way.

Westfield EFTPOS gift cards can be used anywhere EFTPOS gift cards are accepted. If a merchant chooses to not accept EFTPOS gift cards, you’re out of luck.

There are only two examples I can think of where using EFTPOS gift cards is restricted by the merchant.

      Woolworths

Woolworths has set up their POS system so that you cannot use EFTPOS gift cards with card numbers starting with 502125 to purchase the following gift cards at Woolworths and Woolworths Metro:

      • The Perfect EFTPOS gift card (card numbers starting with 502125)
      • OnlyONE Visa prepaid gift cards1 (card numbers starting with 432465)
      • Woolworths Group gift cards
      • eBay gift cards2

If you swipe an EFTPOS gift card starting with 502125 in a transaction where you are purchasing one of these gift cards, you will get an Items Not Allowed error, and staff cannot bypass this restriction.

Having said that, Westfield EFTPOS gift cards have card numbers starting with 502119. It will be interesting to see whether Westfield EFTPOS gift cards are treated the same way as other EFTPOS gift cards, but my assumption is that Woolworths has also applied this restriction on Westfield EFTPOS gift cards.

If anyone is wondering why this restriction exists, Woolworths Group team members can use their 5% team member discount everyday on most gift cards sold at Woolworths, so Woolworths Group is trying to prevent team members from abusing this discount by using EFTPOS or Visa gift cards they purchased at a discount to purchase more EFTPOS or Visa gift cards at a discount and trying to “profit” from the team member discount as a result.

Considering Westfield EFTPOS gift cards are sold at Woolworths (obviously) and I’m 95% sure it is eligible for the 5% team member discount, I think Westfield EFTPOS gift cards will have this restriction too. (I will test it out later this week!)

      Australia Post

Australia Post officially do not allow you to use EFTPOS gift cards to pay for any bills via Post Billpay at Australia Post offices (for some reason), and they have trained their staff to stop customers from doing this.

However, Australia Post has not set up their POS system to block you from doing this, so if you’re lucky (like me recently) and can find a staff member at a post office who is happy for you to use EFTPOS gift cards to pay for a bill, you can get away with it.

      1. I’m referring to the OnlyONE Visa Green gift card that is not restricted to a specific Merchant Category Code (MCC). This probably does not include the OnlyONE Visa gift cards that can only be used at specific MCCs (e.g. the OnlyONE Visa gift cards in this deal).

      2. Another OzBargainer told me last week they were unable to use an EFTPOS gift card to pay for an eBay gift card at Woolworths, which is rather surprising.

      • Which gift cards can be discounted using the staff card?

        • I don’t have access to a team member discount, but based on previous conversations with OzBargainers who have access to the team member discount, the gift cards that do not attract the discount include:

However, I’m not aware of any other restrictions, so my assumption is that it works on other gift cards. (For example, someone commented a while ago that the 5% discount could be applied to Apple gift cards.) Then again, I cannot test this for myself!

          1. This is the newer version that comes with a PIN. Apparently the older version that came with no PIN could be discounted by 5%.

      • Do they allow split payment?

        • Who? Woolworths? Australia Post?

          • @WookieMonster: Australia Post. You used to be able to split payment at Australia Post and pay using Eftpos giftcards.

            • @nightelves: Yep.

Split payments are possible, although when I requested split payments Australia Post recently, the staff member wasn’t entirely sure how to do that, and they needed help from their supervisor to figure out how to do it.

            • @nightelves: it depends on the biller when it comes to split payment.
From my experience, AMMI and VIC Roads (rego fees) don't allow split payment at post office

              • @AsukaST: Are you able to pay via credit card for Vicroads? Couldn't pay via Beemit and wanting a workaround to the payment surcharge…

      • +2

FWIW, I haven't received my 5% staff discount on gift cards for a while, so I think they've patched that.

        • Damn, that’s a shame.

        • how about using your staff discount for stan gift card, or apple? does it work? i know they stopped for perfect eftpos gift card, and visa green too.

      • +1

You can't use gift cards to purchase Woolworths Mobile SIM cards.

      • For Auspost just use self service.

    • Do Westfield giftcard incur a card fee as well?

      • They incur a $5.95 purchase fee, which you need to pay at the time of purchasing the card.

    • It has been known to many now. From its T & Cs, "We may, in our complete discretion, refuse to sell gift cards to any person at any time for any reason." may refer to the people who know it is an EFTPOS card that can be used outside Westfield.

Since people buy them from a 3rd party, it can not enforce it. But one has to be quick in redeeming the whole balance if the spend is outside Westfield. Some people reported card suspension before.

  • Anyone got a suggestion on how to use up small amounts that will invariably be left on the Visa Fast Food card?

    • +1

      Split payment.

  • What are the largest denominations available at Woolworths for the Westfield cards?

  • I’m confused by the terms and conditions at the bottom of the picture and the terms and conditions at the bottom of the catalogue, they differ. Or does it mean it also included pictured cards plus Visa OnlyONE Spa & Beauty, Dining, Night Out & Webjet Gift Cards.

    • +1

does it mean it also included pictured cards plus Visa OnlyONE Spa & Beauty, Dining, Night Out & Webjet Gift Cards

      This

    • +2

Gift cards pictured + Visa OnlyONE Spa & Beauty, Dining, Night Out & Webjet Gift Cards

  • Can the VISA fast food card be used at Macca's, HJ's, KFC etc.?

    • -1

Yes it's basically a debit card where you swipe it and select savings and pin.

      • +1

They’re gift cards that operate on the Visa network, so you need to select Credit, not Savings.

        • I'm using the Westfield giftcard now. At the back it says Select Savings and enter pin. This is the one given by redeeming credit card bonus points.

          • @nightelves: They asked about the "VISA fast food card", which is another gift card that is part of this offer. They were not asking about the Westfield EFTPOS gift card.

    • +3

It should be fine, as one of the permitted Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) for the Visa fast food gift card is Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814). However, it is reliant on the financial institutions managing card payments for Macca’s, HJ’s, KFC, etc correctly coding their EFTPOS terminals with the correct MCC.

To be honest, if Macca’s, HJ’s, KFC, etc are not assigned MCC 5814, I honestly have no idea what they would be assigned…

      • Do you know if these can be used in the GYG app (online) or are they just ETFPOS?

        • +1

It should work, as long as:

          • The financial institution handling GYG’s payments on the GYG app has designated GYG with the MCC for Fast Food Restaurants (#5814), and

          • The financial institution handling GYG’s payments on the GYG app accepts prepaid Visa cards. (Some merchants will not accept them for online/in-app transactions, as most prepaid cards lack the security features of debit/credit cards, so some merchants see them as a “more risky” payment method.)

I cannot give you an iron-clad guarantee whether it will work, because I haven’t tried it!

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for that! Worth the risk to get $50 and see as I can use it on maccas and so on anyway right. Also can check whether it'll trigger my weekly Woolies rewards points offer.

By my previous GYG transactions is there a way to see what the MCC is? I tried seeing my debit card and zip transactions but don't see any such number

            • @sub102: If you’re gonna use it at another fast food outlet, I agree it is worth the risk. Thanks for volunteering to be the guinea pig lol.

There is likely no way for you to check what the MCC is for specific card transactions through banking apps etc, as it is information that financial institutions usually don’t publicise to their customers, mostly because it is usually of no value to customers.

However, some financial institutions (e.g. 86 400) appear to be using MCCs to categorise spending in their banking app, so you may be able to get a rough idea of the MCC for a particular merchant based on the way the app categorised the transaction.

Alternatively, you could always ask your financial institution what the MCC was for a particular transaction, but tbh, that is probably too much hassle when trial-and-error would likely be a faster way of determining this.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: I just checked the GYG transactions I did for the Revolut offer and they are classified as 'Restaurants' so it should fall under one of 5811/5812/5813/5814 (funny enough Shopback transactions were classified as restaurants too though). So to be safe its best to get the Night Out card out of them all as it covers all those MCCs plus more. Let you know how it goes

                • @sub102: I’ve tried on the GyG app and can confirm it doesn’t accept, unfortunately.

                  • +1

@PcisT: Oh is that so? Shame then. I bought it but wasn't able to try it there yet. But on the plus side it worked in store at Hungry Jacks so I can use it up someday. And guess what it did trigger my weekly rewards points offer of $50 spend!

  • great

  • Does that mean the $50 visa does not have any fees?

    • +1

That's right. The Visa gift cards in this deal have zero fees, but the trade-off is that you can only use them at specific categories of merchants.

  • The T&C that I'm most curious about is the 10 maximum per rewards member - is that 10x of each card, per transaction, all up? I wonder how you know when you've hit the 10 - you just don't get the bonus points I guess? It is a damn good reason not to buy the $50 denominations if you want to stock up.

    • sounds like 10 cards in total to me.
Otherwise it would be "limited to 10 cards of each type".

  • +1

Can VISA OnlyONE Fast Food be used on the Maccas app?

    • +1

It's a good question and you'd think so, but we'll only know how their online ordering MCN is coded once someone tries and reports back.

      • +2

I can report back and say I’ve tried it myself and it works.

  • +1

Has anyone tried if a purchase of one of these gift cards yields bonus everyday rewards points for weekly spends like the Apple gift cards?

    • I can confirm that it does not count toward spend target for bonus pts as mine still shows unmet (although I spent several times the target on these GCs)

      • Thanks mate. May I confirm which gift cards you bought?

        • yep, I've bought 12 x Westfield EFTPOS (so far)

Possible the OnlyONE visa cards may be different

          • @trotsky: Wow so many , what will u do with them?

            • +1

              @FujiFruit: Buy hookers and blow!

Jk. Probably just pay for parking and other exciting stuff that I can't use AMEX for

          • @trotsky: Visa card may be counted. It could be updated on Friday.

            • @Neoika: The rewards app tells you when it is updated. It was updated this morning at 8am for me.

          • +1

@trotsky: The $50 Night out card did count towards my weekly bonus rewards offer

  • -1

Be aware that these gift cards may not activate immediately. I purchaed earlier today and tried to check the balance online (https://www.westfieldgiftcards.com.au/Online/Information/Car…). I got 'invalid card'. I tried to use the card and got 'no savings account' at the EFTPOS terminal. I called Wesfield Gift Cards and they said the card can take 48 hours to activiate.

My advice would be to check the balance before you try to spend. You can also check the balance by calling 1300 790 292 and selecting option 1 or at the Concierge Desk in any Westfield.

    • +1

UPDATE: 1 hour 24 mins later my card has now been activated.

      • Nearly 4 hrs lapsed, still invalid card.

        • I bought some more tonight. Now 3.5 hours an no activation. Seems the time is not standard for activation.

          • @DrRalph: To be fair, it says up to 48 hrs on the receipt printed at activation and on the packaging itself, so we should probably not be expecting it to work the same day at all

  • I haven't purchased yet the westfield gift cards? did you find stock easily?

    • No issue for me. Checked multiple stores. 100's available.

      • How many u get Doc ?

  • Hi is this written anywhere? I can't find in catalogue

    • Found on page 36 of the NSW digital catalogue.

      • found it thanks

  • Has anyone seen the Visa OnlyONE Fast Food come in any amounts higher than $50?

    • +1

No, I think they're only sold in $50 denominations, as they're the only denominations I've seen at multiple Woolworths stores recently.

  • Does anyone have a list of places where visa fast food can be used ? Food courts? Kfc? Aporto? any random food shops?

  • Does anyone know which fast food places (that accepts these cards) allow split payment? McDonald’s and KFC doesn’t, makes it difficult to use up the little balances left on them..

    • +1

KFC has split for me previously at the counter. Are you sure about Maccas? I would have thought they could, unless the person who served you chose not to?

  • -1

How much the revenue do you get per purchase $50 fast food card?

  • Late to the party, checked out 2 stores near me and none of the $100 Westfield GC left, plenty of $50 though :(

  • I'm assuming you can't pay for these gift cards with a Woolworths/WISH gift card at checkout?

    • +1

Hasn't worked for a few years now, but you can try your luck.

  • There was no $100 Westfield gift cards of course. . Only $50 there. They never put enough .

  • The staff told me that they have limited gifts cards for sale on purpose so you would be coming in anyway and buying something else from them, its a way to drag u in when they know there is hardly any stock.

  • Westfield GCs still works at my local Australia Post (outside Westfield) to pay bills.

    • +1

That’s good to know, but it is something I would not encourage.

Section 2 of the terms and conditions makes it clear that you cannot use a Westfield EFTPOS gift card to pay bills, and Westfield reserve the right to cancel any gift cards if you do that (or for any reason).

I haven’t heard of anyone who had a Westfield EFTPOS gift card cancelled or a transaction reversed after redeeming it at Australia Post (especially since Australia Post is more than a bill payment service), but it is something I would not feel comfortable doing, because who knows how closely Westfield monitors transactions on their EFTPOS gift cards and how trigger-happy they are.

      • +2

That's a good callout, I had no idea they had that in their T&Cs however…

I have been picking up these Westfield GCs whenever they go on sale for years now (since ~2016) and have used them to pay bills at Australia Post and none have been cancelled nor reversed thankfully.

Maybe one day Westfield will get their act together and do something about it but I'm here hoping that nothing will emerge haha.
