    Commander Keen

Math Rescue is where it's at ;)

These games are worth so much in their original big boxes now. It's crazy, $300+ for Wolfenstein 3D.

    • +1

You just blew my mind. I completely forgot about Math Rescue!

    • +1

I have a decent collection of old Big Box games. Some go for heaps, I had a double of Wacky Wheels that I sold for $300.

    • +2

Game boxes were like $100 back then so it's not that crazy.

      • +1

I disagree. 10 years ago they were all selling for like $20. That's how I got a big collection.

        • +1

Interesting, I guess their re-releases got ppl to start wanting the old game boxes.

          • +1

@star-ggg: Applies to pretty much most old big box games. Like Mechwarrior 2 has been hugely popular and the reboots never took off.

            • @Clear: Oh wow, I still have my OG Mechwarrior 2 (Dos), cd, manual, inner & outer box. Even the keyboard reference card. And also framed up the poster that came with it.

One of the few original games I paid for . Activision knew what they were doing back then.

Had no idea it's big again.

              • @KSMLJ: Mechwarrior 2 is very iconic with Mechwarrior 3 copies being the rarest. The soundtrack and the expansions of Mechwarrior 2 were the best.

Definitely hold onto that copy because one day you might be able to offload it to a collector for a good amount.

      • +1

Yeah, i remember going into Myers with a pen and piece of paper to draw the copy protection out of the Kings Quest V manual as I didn't have the $90 or so they wanted.

    • I don't remember wolf3d coming in a box. I pre-ordered it back in the day and i think it was only a 1.44mb floppy and a booklet. that came in an envelope. Probably have it lying around at my parents house somewhere.

      • They existed and for Spear of Destiny. There were so many distributors back in the day that many came in envelopes.

Collectors like myself often get American copies like this which I have a copy of.

      • Yeah the Australian retail copy was from Manaccom (showing my age). Unfortunately our version did not have great cover art, instead they went (if memory serves) with 2 in game screen shots for the front.

Unfortunately I threw out the box years ago.

Good price if want a legit version of Duke Nukem.

A little sad i didnt grab Megaton edition before Gearbox acquired the rights.

    • +1

If you can get copies of the expansions like Duke it out DC, Caribbean etc. you can load them up with the newest edition.

    I approve, as you'd expect.

      Got any gum?

    RAPTOR WAS LIFE!!!

    • Raptor was great! But. BUT! Tyrian was so much better :D

    • This port of the game doesn't have the cheats ported over, for example hitting backspace would restore your health and give you 1 deathray

      • The slower workaround trick is to do the first level (where you get the missles), then abort the mission and sell them. Repeat this process until you've made a fortune.

I know in the original version you could edit the save file with a hex editor to add more money. I've yet to test this with the 2015 version. I have a trainer and patch utilities from 1994 that'll do it with Dosbox on the original.

It's time to kick ass and chew bubble-gum… and I'm all out of gum.

Duke Nukem 3d. My childhood in a nutshell.
    Thanks.

  • Can’t you get these under abandonware? But I haven’t looked.

I have an old 586, I been playing some old games on it recently.

    • That's not legal, but you technically can.

    • +1

Wow classic computer. I had a 286 and a 486 back in the day.

  • Your face, your ass, what's the difference?!

The last pack is a terrible price - better to get the separate elements from GOG atm. $6.57 on GOG v $13.05

Damn! Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride!!

  • Man these bring up some memories. Does Raptor have the original music? That was the best part about that game, love the commander keen games also

    • +1

It doesn't use the original music files. The developer who ported it used lower quality MIDI files for some bizarre reason.

  • Duke Nukem is ~$2.25 (after US exchange) at IndieGala in their Gearbox Sale

  • -8

    I don't like Duke Nukem's misogynistic attitude.

    • +5

Not being able to look at things with a historical context is a shame.

    • It's a game, with a character. But you're entitled to your opinion, just as others that enjoy it are also. I don't like gta but my partner does, as well as millions of others. It just doesn't suit my values. So i don't play it.

  • +1

How are they normally charging $30 for Duke Nukem 3D in 2022….

  • +1

Raptor is literally a 1993 game.
I remember the big deal reviewers loved was the sound effects.

  • +1

These would be great if we could get the Steam Deck

  • Good memories of crowding around the one computer in the library in primary school playing the shareware version of Raptor.
