Just happened to be in the market for a new budget condenser mic and this seems to come highly recommended.

There is a cheaper one on Amazon but this particular listing is fulfilled by Amazon Au.

Not historical cheapest but seems to be going for about $129 elsewhere currently so seems decent if you need one now.

Please note this is an XLR mic so you'll need some sort of interface with your PC if you're planning to connect it. I'm currently eyeing off a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (if anyone has first hand experience with one also keen to hear about this)

https://www.elgato.com/en/wave-xlr perhaps for the xlr? Depends on what you want. You can buy a full-size mixer for a similar price too

Don't buy the Scarlett, they were very disappointing recently. Spend more for a MOTU M2 or grab a bargain Behringer Phoria.

You probably only want the Behringer UMC202. Ticks all the boxes for new sound guys.

I'm sorry I disagree with this view when it comes to vocals. I have been using various Scarlett interfaces for several years and it has a different (warmer and cleaner) sound compared to a number of other interfaces I've tried.

This is a good mic for its price but I'd recommend the AKG P series (220 if it fits your budget).

      • Gotta admit i prefer the sound of the AKG p series to the cheap AT mics, but that does seem to be a personal thing, theyre quite 'airy'. Neither are really the best thing for what most people seem to buy them for though.

  • Buy this instead.

  • I had latency and driver problems with a Scarlett last year, despite buying it for the converters. China production makes these things hit and miss though. MOTU replacement been rocking it since. No regrets.

  • I have this, it's really good quality and I wouldn't use a gaming headset again. Look into getting a pop filter (rounded that connects to mic not flat on gooseneck) and a mic boom arm with built in XLR cable.

    • I already have the At 2020. Could you show me an example please? The pop filter and the mic boom arm.

      • Sure, check elsewhere for prices/quality though- these are indicative:

Boom arm - I paid $25 for an NW-35XLR a couple of years ago

        Pop filter

It just depends on how you want to use the mic and whether that boom is appropriate. The boom also has a pop filter on a gooseneck but the other one I linked is a much cleaner option and slips over the mic.

This isnt just XLR, this needs phantom power to work correctly so you need an audio interface or power injector, not just a cable.
Also do consider whether you want/need a large diaphragm condenser - they are incredibly sensitive to noise in the space you are in, if you arent planning to treat your space then a decent dynamic may be a better buy.
    Podcastage re-reviewed it relatively recently.

  • I have this mic and I run it through a Behringer little mixer to USB. It's a great combo, grab a few acoustic tiles and you too can do voice-overs.

  • Had one of these for almost 10 years now. Used it for recording vocals and instruments, now using it as my desktop mic for gaming/discord.

Highly recommend it. Never had a single problem with it.

    In 2014.

Today, look instead at the Mackie EM-91c (spoken word, $90 on Amazon) or the Takstar TAK55 (all-rounder, $120 on AliExpress).

Best value XLR interface option would be the Audient Evo 4, at around $190 from Amazon.
