Used to love buying electronics kits from Dick Smith when I was a lad. Paid loads more even way back then.

Anyone ever bought kits from this mob?

    • Yes, kits never arrived and no tracking to see where they went.

      • Darn, thats disappointing :

        How was customer service then?

        • Don't think I ever followed up, I think I forgot about it, or couldn't be bothered waiting. Order was six months ago.
I too was a Dick Smith kit junkie. FWIW, Jaycar still do kits.

          • @AmazingJas: Sorry to know that. Sometimes package might be lost or delivery failed, which is out of control here. Please let us know the order number for better checking. If it was our problem, we will resend a new package or refund to you.

  • So metal detector this small is a thing? Is there a read made off the shelf detector I can use to check for water pipes and electrical cable behind a brick wall?

    • These are hobby kits. Check out a Bosch GMS120 or the like for real application.

      • Yes. Hobby kits mainly used to practice soldering, develop soldering interest these sorts of thing. The application is limited for this kit itself

I have bought kits from them in the past. Shipping is really slow. Expect a 2-3 months.
The metal detector kit - yep usage would be pretty limited. its not the right thing for searching for gold, but maybe some factory line or automated detection.

  • Bit rich calling that a "battery charger module". It's a BMS and protection board, but it doesn't actually do charge management.

You still need to have a supply that is voltage limited to 16.8V and current limited to actually charge the batteries.

So no, not a charger at all, in any way.
