Have been looking for a big screen TV, it seems like a decent price for the 85X95J.
Sony X95J 85" Bravia 4K UHD Google TV $5395.50 + Delivery @ The Good Guys

OLED is better and costs more.
To play Devil's Advocate, this is about as good as it gets for (LED LCD) displays that (obviously) aren't OLEDs.
You want total assurance of no burn-in and higher peak brightness? This is your TV.
You want absolute blacks (thus better overall image quality) but lower peak brightness and the (slight) chance of burn-in? Go OLED.
I'unno. The choice is ultimately yours, I'm just a schmuck who wishes he could afford either option!
imo the 85" QN85A at $4479 on EPP would make a strong case.
@rookie317: Agree, 85QN85A is a better TV, with better tech. Note the reviews on RTINGs doesn't factor the VA panel on the 85" as they test on a 55" IPS
Samsung
QDot
Mini LED
VA panel on the 85"Sony
GoogleTV integrated@rookie317: EPP? Whats that? Im waiting to buy the qn85a when it goes on special.
@Squirmy Squid: It's Samsung Online Store for employees of certain organizations that Samsung consider partners, check with your employer or friend/family. I think you can gain access using Westpac too but not sure. the 85" QN85A is $4679 there with an ongoing $200 discount to bring it to $4479.
@rookie317: I thought so, mine is showing a price of $4939. Time for a phone call. cheers.
@rookie317: Videopro have the Samsung 85" QN85a at $4750 on their website.
This isn't as "good as it gets" for LED LCD.
It's a top mainstream TV and very good all rounder for sports etc but Sony's Master series is leagues better then this.
@plmko: OH SHI-
COMPLETELY forgot about the X9J. Guess it was because of the prohibitive price and I never considered it within modest reach. Honestly my bad.
@stubbietubbie: Yeah the Z9J is the best LED LCD TV Sony (or anyone for that matter really) makes, but then, at double the cost of even the best OLED, it's more of a statement piece than practicality.
Picked one up for $5495 a few weeks ago. Pretty happy. She’s definitely bright! Borderline too bright on HDR content in a dark room. I’d ruled out the OLEDs personally, couldn’t justify the significant extra cost for similar size.
Google TV OS is excellent too. Was very easy to side load region locked apps like HBO, Vudu and Hulu
2 questions pls:
1. approx how much extra is OLED in same size?
2. do you sideload apps from a USB stick plugged into TV?
I tried code SKY10 "The promotion code you have entered is not available at this time. Please try again later." am I missing something, most likely I am..
For this price, I think it would be better to wait for the X95K(the new 2022 model), which would have hundreds of dimming zones, instead of only 90 on this J model. Also, the new range of the LG OLED is going to the bigger and cheaper.
At least, wait until the new models are out, and get this at a much lower price.
When do the new models get released in Australia. March/April or later? I'm looking for a 65 inch OLED TV and have my eye set on the Sony A80J but maybe worth waiting for the new models to come out. Hope that may also drive 2021 model prices down.
I'm waiting the 2022 models as they look like bigger upgrade than last year. However my patience is running out. Hopefully they release soon and have good promotions
The 77" A80J is also at the same price (assuming the discount code works for it). I'd sacrifice some screen size for better PQ, especially for dark room/environment movie usage.
I have this TV and it's amazing, no need for OLED to be honest with the possible risk of burn in and the price. It is very very bright, have had to turn it down. Does everything very well.
I just purchased the qn85a 85" for $4650 on back order. Should I fork out the extra and go for this Sony instead?
I would stick with the qn85a, mini LED so has far more dimming zones to improve contrast and blooming. Samsung lacks Dolby vision and runs on tizen OS compared to Google TV on the Sony in case those are deal breakers for you.
Great tv (Sony 95) but they still have dark corners. I saw one on display and it had all 4 corners perfectly covered with labels and stickers. If that doesn't bother you (some can ignore it) then no probs.
How does this compare to the OLED ones
