How to Get Mountain Dew out of a Recliner Chair?

This is a little embarrassing but has anyone got soft drink on their couch or recliner.

Ordered dominos tonight and stupidly dropped the mountain dew and then opened it while I was on my arm chair recliner like this one similar, but slightly less fluffy

Anyways, long story short it's gonna be super sticky soon and so far I have just poured some cool water on it but wondering what the best way to clean my arm chair recliner would be. Looking at maybe buying an upholstery shampoo machine or something.

Any recommendations for cleaning upholstery arm chair recliner with sticky soft drinks.

Pretty embarrassing but have been pretty mad lately and not feeling well and then this happens.

Thanks OzB u always come thru.

  • This is why you should buy diet soda, so there is no sticky sugar.

    • Is that actually true?

I thought there might still be some sticky.

Diet soda also good for weight loss but no flavour.. its water or taste and unfortunately tonight I chose taste.

      • I think it's true. I think it's why the mentos + cola experiment is normally shown with diet cola, to make the mess easier to clean up.

I think I prefer diet soda now. Soda with sugar in it tastes too different to what I'm used to. And you see places like KFC pushing Pepsi Max as their default soda in advertising, Coke is now pushing Coke Zero as their default soda in pictures and stuff at McDonald's too. Consumer tastes are changing. We still want to drink loads of soda, but we don't want the sugar anymore because it's a big part of why so many of us are so fat. I definitely prefer Pepsi Max over either Pepsi or Coke or Coke Zero, and I prefer Coke Zero over Pepsi or Coke.

Use Bissell SpotClean. Works every time. If you don't have, pour water, scrub it and then use wet vacuum to suck water out. Dry it out in the sun tomorrow.

    • just testing with cold water first.. if still sticky tomorrow then will try with boiling water and if that does not work gonna try a hot water and drops of dish soap solution last resort will buy a spot clean but trying to avoid spending $150+ on hopefully a one off incident.

      Will see how it goes.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I’d try wool mix. Damp cloth, dab of wool mix work it into fabric, followed by wet cloth & bucket warm water to remove same wool mix.

Probably best to not tip water directly on the recliner or it’ll take ages to dry.

    • This works on shaggy carpet, but I’ve never tried it on a recliner/armchair.
  • Get a thick cloth preferably 100% cotton, put it under warm water, wring it out so its not soaking, just damp, then use a small drop of dishwasher liquid.

Wipe it down 2-3 times, then use a dry cloth to wipe any excess dampness from the recliner.
repeat as needed until there is no stickiness.

    • i might try this if pouring boiling water does not work tomorrow

      • Don't pour boiling water on your couch….

Not sure why that line even needs to be said, but no idea how you think that's a good cleaning option….

        • Kind of just wanted to do it for fun.

Idk in my head to get rid of the most stubborn cleaning jobs I find extremely hot water does the job.

For this couch I can just let it dry anyways or what I am doing now just use a towel as a layer in the meantime.

    Should have got crab juice.

    • It was too far away.

  • Wet it with water then pour a ton of salt on and leave overnight.

    • I'm not doing that

    • Just water worked btw.. no idea why you would need salt.. anyways i get enough of that from overwatch and other games thank you

  • Unleash a colony of ants. Then, when they are finished, unleash another colony so they can battle it out.

    • I feel like someone already did this it works but there is a ripple on effect haha lol.

What do I do with the two dead colonies?

      Start a rts project?

  • Update : been few days now sitting with a towel in between me and the soft drink spilled couch.. Couch is fully dry now and cannot feel any stickiness which is what I was hoping for.. So no need to do any further cleaning

Looks like the water poured over the couch trick worked and got dried by the towel
