Optus nbn Slow Speeds - Asking to Fix The Bridge Tap

Long story short, we have had Optus NBN for 12+ months. Max speed we get is around 13mpbs. I checked with optus and they said everything is fine from nbn and their side.

Issue with bridge tap and asking us to get it fixed.

A. Do you know how much that costs and should we be pushing for optus to fix it? Not even sure how to go about found technicians.

B. Given we have had slow speeds for 12+ month (I am trying to help a non-techie friend), are there any grounds to see for compensations if we go through tio, etc? I vaguely recall reading about people challenging the providers with slow nbn speeds

Some advice would be great. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Nah Optus has nothing to do with cabling inside your property. Call at least three of the cablers on here for a quote to fix the bridge tap.

    • Thanks a lot. Would you have rough idea on what do we expect to pay for this? Is it few hundred dollars ?

      • $189 or $249 from Mr Telco.

Bridge tap removal prices are either $189 inc GST for an Internet technician to visit your house and locate and remove the faulty wiring causing the bridge tap, or $249 inc GST for a new phone line installation should fix it depending on time-frame leave it to our internet repair specialist to identify and advise.

  • Do you have a bridge tap? I wouldn't just take Optus at their word, their full of manure typically.

    • It may be any join in the line from the pit to the modem.

      • Yes but Optus are specifically saying it's a bridge tap which conveniently would be the customers problem.

        • Have you dealt with Optus support for any broadband issues? If you have and it was not a simple issue then you would know that Optus support use wrong terminology and give wrong advice & support all the time.

Have got refunds from Optus due to broadband issues with their equipment a number of times when I was with them as they could not fix the problem and did not want to fix it, so they had to refund the bill for the a number of times and each for at least 2 months. I have now got NBN HFC with Exetel and have not looked back.

          • @AndyC1: Yes, that's why I think they're just palming it off as a bridge tap so they can say it's not their problem.

    • Optus are saying it. Any way to verify or I assume they can tell.

      • They should be able to tell and they should also be able to send the diag log that shows it which I'd bet they'd refuse to. Do you have multiple connection points?

  • Optus support staff will tell you anything to get you off the phone. As such and your lack of knowledge about NBN and the old POTS system I would change to Aussie BB and get them to fix the issue after you have churned.

If you want the TAP fixed then you can get any sparky with NBN/POTS experience to do it. Ask them to re-terminate the NBN bridge TAP. Should cost you about $150 to $200 all up including the call out fee.

    • Thanks a lot. That is really helpfull.
Yeah that is main issue. My friend sign up on 3 year contract and there is $250 fee to break contract. So, we are sort of stuck with optus :(. Looks like bridge tap removal needs to happen at some stage anyways. So, we might as well get that done.

      • You need to google up on technical terminology you do not understand as your response is not physically able to be done.

      • My god why do people do this…
