  • Why is it called Pale Ale ? Isn't it the same English Ale you would get drawn from a pump in a pub?
    Can you get Doom Bar?

    • +2

Pale Ale is the full name of the beer.

We're currently unaware of anyone importing Doom Bar into Australia at this time.
I will pass on that there's interest in the brand!

I read it as BBD is October 2022.

    • Apologies, I ran out of title space to get it all in properly!

  • +2

Is that legal to sell expired product?

    • +1

Yeah, as long as it's a Best Before and clearly advertised…

    • As it is a Best Before date and not a Use By date, yes it is legal.

We have tasted the beer and we feel that it is of saleable quality!

    • +1

      It's not expired.

You're confusing Best Before vs Used By
      TLDR:
Used-By is for things like milk & meat which can spoil & make you sick.
Best Before is for things like drinks & chips where the quality (taste, etc) may degrade after a certain time.

Basically for (most) beer, it means the flavour may change & not be as tasty after a certain date (6mth I believe). But that usually affects craft beers more, as the hop flavours tend to change acter 6mths. Traditional malt flavoured beers ike this, tend to fair better. And then there's Coopers which doesn't have Best Before date (it has Best After) as it's still got live yeast in the bottle so it actually gets better.

For chips, lollies, etc it usually means they go soft, hard, flavour changes. But the product.is.still perfectly eatable.

      • I agree M00Cow and also:

All beer has live yeast as trace elements, the difference with Coopers is that they add the yeast at bottling/caning for carbonation. Us homebrewers often use the yeast from a six pack of Coopers in our own brews.

For a strong robust ale, the taste can go either way unlike Lagers and light beers that can taste like (and usually do anyway) like pi$$. I sometimes leave a couple of bottles of my IPA and others ales for months on end and more often than not they taste better after 8 months then 2 months.

I grabbed 3 cases before they sold out.

Basically for (most) beer, it means the flavour may change

Unless you have covid and have lost your taste buds, it would be very easy to pick the difference between a freshly brewed beer and one past it's best before date…

        • +1

Well of course an experienced cicerone like yourself could. But Solvenly Joe Average, I doubt it.

          • @M00Cow: Let's leave religion out of this…

    • There are discount retail food shops that sell many Best Before date products - no problem.

Beer in a can should last for years and years… flavour does change over time but usually still fine.

  • Out of Stock

  • Um surely the discount should be even higher, given the close to 3 months since best before.
That said, some punters have already bought all of it.

  • IPA is too bitter for me, but here is another deal

    https://www.empireliquor.com.au/product-page/greene-king-dou…

    • 7.2% too, just grabbed 3 case of this one too.

      • I grabbed two. Try the Scottish stout too. It's got good reviews and 440 ml cans.

        • The Mixed Belhaven 330ml Bottles has better reviews and 7% alc content for those interested

    • IPA is too bitter for me

      Try Sierra Nevada Torpedo…

      You will explode !!!

  • 6 months past BBD is a fair amount of time for beer - sure if was baked beans or curry paste, but beer degrades pretty quickly
