  • Freight seems to be $12.

Any one rate these ones over cheaper options ?

These the ones the experts say do nothing for Omicron?

      • -1

        Yeah these aren’t K95.

      • How about a cloth mask with an n95 filter insert?

        • +2

This is my opinion only, but I would say a cloth mask with N95 insert would probably better than a plain cloth mask, but unlikely to be as good as an actual P2/N95 respirator since these are designed to have a much better fit on the face.

However, as to whether a filtered cloth mask would be better than a surgical mask…bit of a toss up there. If I had to take a punt I would probably lean yes, but I'd really have no idea!

They are better than nothing- the below is from an occupational and environmental health website

With a cloth face covering (Cloth FC)…
… has 75% inward leakage and outward leakage.

With a surgical mask…( the masks in this post)
… has 50% inward leakage and outward leakage

With an N95 filtering facepiece respirator (FFR)…
…has 1-10% inward leakage and outward leakage.

Fitted properly it's still better than nothing. You can also wear 2 at once for some potential additional protection (I've been doing that lately in Sydney and it's defo a lot harder to breathe so I assume that means more layers of filtration, ymmv).

My go to are the Maxima Lv2 @ HealthcareXpress for $11, free shipping if u buy 2 and comes pretty much 1-2 days after. Not sure where they are made but are great quality.

    • Also have these, people have commented on how mine seem better than theirs.
Can't really tell the difference but don't have Covid

    • This is a deal.. thanks for that, ordered 2.

    • They are all made in China, but IMHO better quality than most of made in au options.

    • My go to as well for surgical masks. They're rated as L2 as well.

    • Thanks grabbed 3 packs

    • Given this how cheap healthcarexpress is and its been this way for some months now, the Med-Con deal is not really a bargain.

  • Any pointers for N95 or KN95 ?

They also have MCP Health brand (made in Australia)
    box of 50 standard level 2 $18.15 - https://www.matrixdental.com.au/product/MCPFMSL2EL/
    box of 50 sensitive skin level 2 $19.80 - https://www.matrixdental.com.au/product/MCPFMSSL2EL/
    +$12 shipping.

Definitely worth paying that little extra to support an essential Australian manufacturer.

  • These kind of masks work great when the person with the virus is wearing it (and yourself). If you are the minority wearing a mask only a kn95 is going to significantly help.
