My son has decided he likes racing games.

It's his money, but im trying to limit the damage if it's a FAD of his.
It's not the cheapest it's ever been, but cheaper than other store RRPs. Typically juggles around $399. Some sell it for $499.
It's probably the best you'll get for that price point.
Other option is to get a better second hand wheel.
They resell for about $250 - $300 if it's a FAD phase
Only reason you'd really want any better is if you're into simulators, i'm assuming this will be enough

I would recommend the Logitech Driving Pro GT which do pop up on FB Marketplace and Gumtree for $50. Good value and entry wheel with force feedback and 900 degrees rotation
2nd this.. Its far cheaper and just as good imho.
But has no clutch…
Clutch won't be of much use unless he grabs the separate shifter as well…
If you're looking for a second hand option, I'd go for the G27, practically identical to the G29 and can be had for around $100, comes with clutch and gear shifter too
Wouldn't recommend second hand, the steering column can loosen with use and they take hours to take apart to fix even if you are familiar with them.
ETA: although I would buy the Driving Force shifter second hand ~$40.
Also the G29/920 is significantly better and represents the best value for money IME.
It's the best entry level option.
They have just updated the range, with almost no improvement, so it may be possible to find the older model at a discount.
Thrustmaster T150 if you can find it.
Good entry wheel to driving.
