LiveNet TV App Streaming Is Slow

Hi all.

I'm new to OzBargains forums and I have a question that's been bugging my internet TV speed. Hopefully I can get some solutions to try and fix the issue.

I have nbn FTTN internet with iPrimus and am on a 50Mbps plan. My download and upload speeds are great.

I have Live NetTV app on an Amazon Firestick plugged into an LG TV (not a smart tv). When watching TV channels or movies the stream starts to lag and freezes up quite often. I did get a paid VPN with Nord thinking this might solve the issue but it is still happening.

The modem/router is a Huawei router provided by iPrimus.

My question is how to avoid this lag/freeze and am considering buying a wifi extender or a mesh wifi system that will eliminate the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

    50 Gbs??

  • 50 Mbps?

Run a speed test when your streaming is buffering. iPrimus, possible congestion issues.

  • Yes my bad …I meant 50 Mbps.. I have run a speed test on laptop via Ethernet I'm getting 45mbps

  • Netflix and all other streaming services run lag free though

In that case a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system won't help. The problem is on Live NetTV's or iPrimus end.

      • Ok so that eliminates that problem

        • Question then is clearing the cache on live net tv app or chaging the channels on my router will that help in any way

Can you do a speedtest on the actual fire stick to rule out choppy wifi signal for sure? (not just slow speed, but the speed jumping around like micro drop outs)

There's apps to run the test on Chromecasts, so in theory there should be for fire sticks too but as I don't have one, I've never looked (was years ago that I did it on OG Chromecasts too for that matter).

Thinking there is a really small chance this app you're having probs with could just be worse at buffering than the other apps and if the WiFi signal is marginal it glitches, where the other better written apps are ok and can smooth it out.

Bit clutching at straws and unlikely (more likely the app is just crap) but it would verify what the other apps being fine only indirectly implies - that better WiFi signal wouldn't help.

          • @smashman42: Thanks man ..im open to any and all help here …app is no good was my initial reaction as well ..I will try ur suggestion on the firestick and report back in the hope if it helps anyone else having similar issues.

            • @rogerallen: Hi guys just to report back on this issue foll are some details
Ran a speed test on my phone
              Download is about 47mbps
              Upload is about 17 Mbps
              Ping is 7 ms
Ran a speed test on the firestickwith same or similar results.
Am trying the firestick in a different smart tv today closer to the modem

So question is whether a wi fi extender will help as this TV is in the second lounge away from the modem

    • While its likely not the case as Netflix sounds like its works well. Could you move your TV next to the WIFI/Modem for a bit and see if its any better? Then you'll know whether an extender will help.

  • What is your ping speed when you are having issues?

  • I will need to get back to you on that as I haven't looked at that as yet…will do so and post it on here ..

  • Could that be a congestion issue with iprimus and would changing providers help me in that case like maybe to telstra etc

    • +1

If it is congestion changing providers will probably fix the issue.

Aussie Broadband is a provider I'd suggest. Not the cheapest but an Australian company with an Australian call center.

  • From memory I think it was 8ms but I could be wrong

  • My question is how to avoid this lag/freeze and am considering buying a wifi extender or a mesh wifi system that will eliminate the problem.

First off move it closer, just to eliminate you possibly buying something you might not need if it persists then its probably the feed from the streaming service.
Try watching at a lower quality

    • I have a second smart tv that is literally above the modem and it suffers the same issues so it looks like it might just be the stream ..any ideas on how to correct this ..maybe uninstall and reinstall the app

  • +2

Considering everything else including other streaming services are working fine I tend to think the issue would be with the Live NetTV streaming sources. Would I be correct to assume most if not all of these streams are coming from unauthorized sources/servers? If that is the case your favourite channel could very well be casting from a desktop PC with a capture card on an ADSL connection from the other side of the world without any CDNs or edge caching features.

    • I wouldn't rule anything out and I was suggested this ap from a friend to watch live TV..however he has the same app and is with a telstra nbn on a 100mbps plan and suffers no such droputs or lag…so I didn't know what else the issue could be and hence posed the question.

      • Is he using a Amazon Firestick?

        • He is using the same setup as me via a firestick

      This is the correct answer

I've had a look at the channel list published online and I'm now 95% confident I was right with my response. These are all illegally streamed South Asian FTA and Satellite TV channels so there is absolutely no guarantee on QOS, reliability or the availability of the stream. One day you will get great service but the following day it would be terrible coming from a totally different server IP as the first one was shut down by the owner or by the authorities. The next day the whole channel would be gone from the list never to be seen again. This is how these IPTv boxes and apps work. No surprises here.

Thanks websterp I totally get the idea of this app being streamed from somewhere illegally and I just wanted to rule out any provider issues, hardware issues etc ..but this proves what I suspected all along and I was just trying to confirm my suspicions.all the help is greatly appreciated and I will spend no more time and money on this problem.

  • Another point to note is the first internet point in the house is in the garage 2nd in the study and where my modem is located in the lounge room us the third internet point..would that make any difference

    • Nah that wont make difference to LiveNet TV.

      • +1

Noted twix so I presume it's just the app and possibly iprimus congestion issues

  • Found the issue, it's iprimus.
Call them up and tell them to shove there nbn up there ass and go with a good company.
worst internet company ive ever been with.

    • I did call them a while back and I've had no issues with customer service from them also nbn did a test and suggested 100mbps was coming to the outside small grey telstra box but once inside the speeds were greatly reduced due to the 1st internet point being I the garage as suggested by the nbn tech ..so my question is changing the internet provider is an option I'm considering

      • Was fine for me too, then i started getting lag while gaming called them and they literally told me that unless my internet speed was the issue and then they don't care and wont help me with my ping.
I'd honestly never recommend them to anyone not even someone i dislike.

        • Did u change providers and find any difference as I'm on a 50/20 plan with them

  • I am with iprimus have the same modem as you am getting around 26 mbps fttn have no problems at all I guess it’s just where you live maybe?

    • I am in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne so maybe just a local issue as well

      • I am in the western suburbs

  • Could you try the Firestick somewhere else in your house closer to the router to try and determine that it isn't a local wifi issue? Maybe in another TV or a computer monitor?

    • Hi Domingo I will give it a go with the smart tv I have in the other lounge and closer to the modem and report back

  • A VPN won’t speed anything up. It will only slow it down.

    • +1

Got rid of the vpn too

  • Can you try tethering with your mobile phone to the Firestick? It will then rule out your primus internet connection

  • Connect TV to phone hotspot.

I have a 100gb plan and run everything from computer, radio, TV, 4k player, sound bar, everything…

I love watching Utube…. a wealth of great ideas, helpful hints, suggestions, examples, how to, etc.

You don't need to be watching mindless movies night after night simply bc they appear on your list… educate yourself with Utube.

Some of the people I know who have been “educated on YouTube” have clearly had the wrong teachers. Like my friend in his 40’s who doesn’t believe the Moon landing happened and that aliens built the pyramids. He loves cocaine too which might have had an effect on his learning abilities. Just saying…

  • Some iptv in Asia, they recommend using CloudFlare DNS 1.1.1.1 via the app. Maybe U can try sideload it on the fire stick and see if it helps.
