Best nbn FTTC Plan under $70?

Hi,

My 2 year old contract with Optus 4G (500GB plan) is about to end and looking to switch to NBN.

While the 4G plan has served me well, really good speeds (typical 100/50), the 500GB cap per month is getting small as we are all WFH.

Can you please advice what's a good NBN plan?

I'm looking for 50/20 speeds with 70$ as maximum. If it's lower than 60$ that would be great. As I pay 55$ per month at the moment.

  • What modem do you have? I have the Optus B818 "beer can" and it works as is on the AussieBroadBand HFC internet. I believe FTTC has a box too from NBN co.

One thing is some NBN providers may need special parameters to connect and might need a new modem..

    • Yes I have the Huawei B818. Thanks for the info!

I have used FTTC NBN with Huawei B315 (provided by VividWireless/OPTUS), even for ISP who use PPPoE, we can configure it. I think B818 should be able to do the same. Just have to remove the sim card, do necessary config and connect WAN port of the router to NBN NCD.

1 month free on unlimited 100/40 @ Aussie BB.

1 week free on unlimited 100/40 @ Launtel.

Second superloop - great speeds and service.

  • For plans google is your friend and check out the reviews as the prices change constantly w.r.t. discount for the first x months or free first month, BUT be aware some RSP's need the modem to support Vlan tags and if you pick one of thse then you need to get a modem that support vlan tags. You can again use google to find out which RSP's require vlan tags.

You did not indicate if you are technically savy and if you are then any of the RSP will do, but if you are not tech savy then have a look at ABB.

    • I'm currently on TPG with TPG's supplied router (TP-Link VR1600v). Can I use this router for Superloop plan?

      • Use google to find out if Superloop require vlan tags and if not then okay otherwise you will need check if the modem supports vlan tags to see if you will need a new modem. I suspect you will be okay, but you need to check.

        • Superloop is IPoE and no VLAN.

      • TP-Link Archer VR1600v is compatible with all ISPs including Superloop.

I've just joined superloop. From signup to being active, took less than 30minutes. That's the fastest change of hands I've ever done.
But it did take me another 30min to figure out how to delete the settings for my TPG router. Quick google search lead me to Whirlpool forum post with easy steps to reconfigure the router.

    • Anyone has experience switching between Tangerine and Superloop every 6 months?
