Reminds me of this every single time I see these on here.

Can this actually restore lost performance to a lead acid battery? Eg. from being drained too low, but not deep discharged?

    • Maybe - "repair and pulse current charging devulcanize battery to restore the battery lost performance"

      • That's the clause I'm questioning

        • Well it says it can.

  • Seems like a good alternative to the CTEK branded ones which have a good reputation but are 3 times the price for the similar level power output models.

    • +1

5A CTEK was around $100 during a few recent deals, not as large a difference in price and current.

    • more like 1.5x the price for mxs 5
I have two CTEK mxs 5 for over a year, and they have been a standard for a solid charger for ages. My mechanic recommended one 20 years ago I recon.
I got my CTEKs for around $95.

I'm tempted to try this out but a bit worried that they have tried to cram everything into it. 6V, 12V and Lithium. As the old saying goes….

Then again, I do have Gooloo jump starter which I'm very happy with. If the same team of engineers built this one then at $72 its worth a shot.

    This or NOCO Genius?

    • CT-15000

      thank me later.

      • Are they that good

      • What makes you say that? I'm in the market for one to revive the battery in my car that hasn't been driven for ~2yrs

        • +2

your battery is dead and can't be saved, buy a new one.

          • @Oofy Doofy: The battery is okay, the check window is green still and last time I started the car by taking the battery down to autobarn and having them charge it overnight on their fancy charger. Using the charger I got for my motorbike if I leave it on charge for 24hrs it will show in the green on that charger but the battery doesn't have enough voltage to start the car still. Need a better charger.

            • @Agret: just grab an aldi one for $29.99.

It's not 10 stage, but it has trickle charge.

Should still be able to find them as they were only listed 2 weeks ago (I got one on launch day, and there's still around 10 left in my local aldi).

            • @Agret: The voltage window means nothing. If it can't survive a load test, the battery is toast.

BTW the CT-15000 I commented can jump start your vehicles.

              • @Oofy Doofy: When I was at autobarn they also ran a load test on it as they have a portable battery tester and the report printed out with everything passing so the battery is okay, just my cheap ebay charger sucks

                • @Agret: their device isn't a load tester, it's just a CCA and cell internal resistance tester.

a load tester is basically a large resistor with a heatsink to keep it cool. The bigger load range you need to test for, the bigger the tester needs to be.

This is an example of a general use case load tester https://www.bunnings.com.au/kincrome-6-12v-100a-battery-load…

    • I'm waiting for a Noco genius5 deal!

Really good quality charger. I use this all the time.

For people who want to charge a battery faster than 10+hours you'll want the S10 model.

  • +1

I was looking for a charger for my locomotive battery. Thanks OP

  • I know this is stated to be compatible with lifepo4. But has anyone used it with it? I’m new to the world of lithium batteries. Have a 100ah lithium battery in a battery box.

    • Yes I've charged my 100ah Lithium with it.

  • Anyone bought this and used for parked cars during lockdown can give us a quick review?

    • Yep, works well for my needs.

Specs and more reviews as well as answered questions on Amazon.

      • Thanks mate thinking of buying it to top up batteries while cars do nothing. Is that as easy as jumping the car connect to positive and negative clamps correspondingly. That's all?

        • +1

Yep, easy as. No need to disconnect anything if you don't want. Just get extension cable, plug this bad boy in, red on red + and black on black -, then set charger with the one button to Battery type, Done. This way your car is good to go anytime when needed, no cables to connect.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Thanks mate for your comments on this. Definately will get it. Don't wanna call roadside assist

            • @neonlight: Haha, don't blame you. Mate needed NRMA towing last week and had to wait over 6 hrs. That's a killer!

              • @ozhunter68: Haha I see. But isn't most cars use lead acid batteries why would you need to select. Odd. What other ones it supports?

                • @neonlight: Well, that's just what I need to do as I go between different battery types, so I need to check and set.

For you it should just be set once to Lead Acid and as it has memory it will stay there

(unless kids play with it lol). Most cars but not all.

          • @ozhunter68: You tried charging through the jump terminals in the engine bay rather than accessing the battery terminals in the boot?
            That should work ok?

            • @Cheap Rich Guy: Older cars used to mostly be similar with battery under bonnet, then vans/cars behind front seats, then vehicles in boot etc. Do what you need to do to connect to battery, just read cautions for some newer cars not to damage electrics or something.

              • @ozhunter68: Yeah, my car has the battery in the boot but if I need to jump start the car, I connect the jumpstarter to a couple of terminals under the bonnet. It's just easier to get to than the battery in the boot.

I have 2 x v8 cars that sit rarely used, I plugged this charger in to a wifi smart plug which turns the charger on for 2 hours 3 times a week based on solar production of the house. No issues and both batteries are like new.

    Scotty Kilmer recommends this

    • +4

Good to know, now I'll definitely give it a miss

    • +1

He meant the jump starter battery….but yes the jump starter battery he recommended is a Gooloo

  • dumb question about the 2A on 6V and 6A on 12V , as I tried looking it up but still dont understand it… am looking for a trickle charger for an old camry which has a 12V battery…does this mean that this charger has a minimum trickle charge of 6A? (I already have a projecta 4A manual charger)

    • +1

No, trickle charge is the setting after the battery is charged at 6A.

      • thanks!

  • Yeah its got desulfator mode, so should be able to help revive a tired battery. Might not bring it completely back, but if its just degredated slightly it might help.

A mate of mine has a projecta branded one and works at SCA. He brings home customers old batteries sometimes and uses that on them, often getitng a pretty decent battery out of it! My 335i got a dead battery over xmas, so I was hoping to get a new charger with defulfator mode on it - Thanks OP. I originally bought the 4a one… but cancelled and got this one ;) Ty

  • If people are just after a charger (don't need 10 stage), then you should still be able to find these around the place.

Just a rehash of the one they've been selling for a decade, it's basic and pretty much junk for the money in 2022. I know coz I have one.

      • Can you elaborate? Does it not charge/overcharge/kill batteries etc?

I've been using mine for a couple of weeks and seems fine so far?

        • Very basic charger, nothing wrong with that, at least you won't hurt anything. The 6v/12v detection is problematic if a battery you have is below half rated voltage (aka it won't charge at all).

You can just get better products for your money.

They've only added a regen mode (which is kinda bs because a fixed low voltage will do the same thing as a pulse desulphation)

And they upped the 12v amperage to 5 amps, but for purposes of all-round safety the cut off for an idiot proof charger and 12v batteries is 4amps.

  • assuming one is only after a decent trickle charger (already have a 4A manual charger)….any thoughts on this? it comes out to $34 including shipping.
