Would I be able to pictures of Uranus with this?

    • 😂

Emergency room: Doctor, I just sat down without looking on the chair.

  • I've managed to get pretty amazing photos of the moon on my cheap beginner telescope with my phone awkwardly moved around the eyepiece. I imagine this would be a big step up again, not sure of value for but under $100 seems great.

    • +1

Your images would be much better than what you'd be able to get out of this eyepiece

  • Does this make it better for viewing rather then struggling through eye piece?

    • Yes, it will make viewing easier as you will be using a laptop to see.

      • +1

But if you're "looking" at something via a laptop, are you not just better off looking at a photo of the same thing?

.. are you talking about pr0n?

        • Kinda like eating a bought cake or making your own. Even though your home made cake might not be perfect people take priding in the learning and creation.

This is a very, very poor camera sensor and only recommend for cases where you don't have any other option. The sensor is a 1/3.2" SONY IMX179: the same one used in Google Pixel 1's front camera which was shoddy even 5 years ago when it launched. You'd be lucky to get any meaningful detail on objects further than the moon. You're better off getting a smartphone adapter for around $80 like this one: https://www.teds.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/18962/s/cele… and mount a modern smartphone with a much better quality rear camera.

Or better yet, if you happen to have an interchangeable lens camera, a T-ring adapter for about $20 from eBay would yield an infinitely better imaging experience.

    • Thanks for your informative comment, rather than trying to be funny.

I’ve been planning on getting a T-ring for a while for my dob.

    • Thanks cancelled my purchase because of your comment.
I've got a dob but if I had tracking scope this would be good for stacking shots.

a low cost starter to astrophotography

Better to get at least a Dobsonian before getting this. You can mount any camera with cheap T-Ring, I have used a Nikon D5200 like that.

    • +1

I find t rings hard to focus with certain focal lengths. Also can't get it to focus with a Barlow.

      • May be it depends on the telescope focal length. I have only tried with a SkyWatcher 8" Dobsonian without the Barlow as I remember. It was a long time ago. I think this image is from that setup, couldn't find the original photos though.

Considering the practicality, if I have funds (I don't have any), I would consider getting a Schmidt–Cassegrain with GOTO tracking + CCD camera :D

        • Yer I got 8inch dob also. But also one day would love to sell and get scope with tracking. Much better for astrophotography.

  • The 205 is the weakest of the three Svbony cameras

The 105 is cheaper, and very usable on solar system targets, and the 305 vastly better again and is an excellent guide camera.

Sv are planning on releasing a cooled camera later this year too, which is properly great. Some competition to zwo aside from the various AliExpress bargains

    • Thanks for the insight….. (everyone)
Perhaps my old SONY NEX3 which is converted to full spectrum might be better.
I’ve heard people say that the full frame cameras like the A7 are overkill and too big for most telescopes
