LG OLED TV - When to Buy?

Hi! I realize I’ve missed out on a few LG OLED C1 TV bargains, in particular the 55 inch recently. Just wondering when the next round of sales might be on. There’s no way I could bargain with the stores now is there? Considering they’re the older models now. There’s no advantage in waiting for the new models is there? When do they arrive?

Thanks!

Keep looking. The biggest bargains have just passed but you might still be able to get a good deal between now and the new release. Otherwise a smaller sale happens around mid year and the bigger sales happen at the end of year around November.

If there's any stock left, once the C2s start appearing then the C1s will go on clearance

I've been hunting for an LG C1 as well, since my current TV is dying. I think the biggest issue right now is stock, a lot of the retailers I've been to don't have any stock. In saying that, they usually have a few of the C1 in 55" left, but zero of the 65".

Could always buy another E39 :p

  • New models don't look like much of a step up so probably not worth the extra you'll pay when they come out.

      People say this every year

I think the C1 was first to have all the bells and whistles that gamers wanted so was definitely a big step up from the year before. Difference between C1 and C2 will not be as big.

reports are the C2 are going to have the G1 Evo brightness

What exactly makes you say this? CX and C1 have the same panel and same features, including GeForce Now. They're virtually the same, other than the usual alpha update and the gimmicky 'Game Optimizer' presets that most videophiles don't use. It was one of the smallest year-on-year C series upgrades, while the C1 to C2 is significant by inheriting the brighter OLED Evo panel from the G series, as well as 2022's OLED EX.

            @SydStrand:

What exactly makes you say this?

My lack of knowledge of the CX! I stand corrected.

          • @SydStrand: iirc there have been reports of people getting evo panel for their C1's, some even said C1's bought after Oct 2021 are highly likely to get that. Even rtings reported on this:
"We've received reports that some C1 owners have confirmed their units have the new evo panel, but LG has only officially confirmed it for the LG G1 OLED, and our C1 doesn't appear to have the new panel."
            But as usual, YMMV.

@rookie317: Some G1 panels made their way into C1s with software bottleneck, but according to TV Jesus, your mileage varies, peak brightness gains still weren't G1 level, and has a bunch of caveats, including disabling OTA updates. From 2022, they officially share the same panel.

@rookie317: My C1 65 has an EVO (G1) panel I bought from the the good guys deal but as sydstrand said, you have to modify software for enhancement

            • @rookie317: How can you tell/test?

              • @JimB: You can buy a service remote, or you can look at it side on the edge and see if there is a slight purple tint to the reflection - there's a few yt vids about it

                • +2

                  @lachhelix: OK thanks.

End of the day, I'm very happy with the picture quality of my C1, evo panel or not.

                  • @JimB: Absolutely! It's a fantastic TV, I wouldn't be bothered either way if I was getting one

New models usually arrive late April.

  • here’s no advantage in waiting for the new models is there

the new ones get the new evo display i think and are lighter in weight if you prefer wall mounting.

    • +2

There's always going to be a better one.

But when the new one is released, it won't be discounted for a while after released.

Unless you plan on wall mounting with just 1 person, weight is a non-issue. The current model 55" OLED is only 19kg.

      • True if the current model is discounted. But stocks are very low and discounts are not much. If you are paying full price or close to it why not get the newer model?

        • Current model is still discounted. I'd aim for say the low $2k mark which is still a good saving.

If it wasn't for a good price, then I agree, better to wait.

  • No one knows when the next sale is on.

I think the lowest it's been is around $2k. You could make them an offer and see if they will accept.

The only thing working against you is stock levels are an issue at the moment.

I was fortunate to pick up a large OLED during black friday.. would have cost me an extra $1,000 today (which I wouldn't pay).

  • Over the years I've found most good OLED sales happen towards the end of the year, between black Friday and Christmas. Then they don't really go on sale until the new models land in the country.

Im in the same boat, after deciding to pass on the boxing day sales and wait another year to upgrade my TV died 1 week later :(

Don't do what I did! Drive from Melbourne to Traralgon on Saturday morning to pick up an LG C1 65inch from JB for $3595. I couldn't wait but I absolutely love the TV!

It’s worth it if you’re happy and you got what you want, when you wanted it.

    Go 65"
The brilliance of LG image will have you upgrade to 4k movies and seek a decent sounder offering Atmos.

You are alive for who knows how much longer… you owe it to your now-self… do it

Don’t forget gumtree! I lucked out and scored a 55 inch under warranty CX for $1200. Perfect display and no bur-ins (ran the YouTube burn-in checker).

+ ShopBack running a promotion today at 11am (extra $10%… or is it 17%?)

    RRP: $2499.00
    Sale: $2124.15
    Shopback (10%): $1,911.73

might be even cheaper if it comes up on the Myer eBay store and you have vouchers/codes

  • if you missed that (i think they are sold out now)
Just saw that Retravision has it for $1,995.
I'm sure place you go might price match elsewhere.
Esp if you have gift cards at those stores.

also say there's a "bonus" but dunno what that is

    • I think that's the A1? I'm probably after the C1 but I think I'll wait for the next generation as it's a secondary TV and will need to be lighter to wall mount.

      Thanks!

Yeah my bad. I realised that afterwards but forgot where I posted it, lol
