  • So guessing only when car is running not from a AGM type battery source?

    • Yeah, car must be running for this. Its like advanced version of normal cell phone chargers in car. Macbook chargers are usually 30W and this tiny thing is sitting at 160W.

    • +2

There is no reason that it won't work on an AGM.

    • +2

Agm can pump out hundreds of amps easy, as long as you don't drain it down below 50% on a regular basis.

  • +4

You'll probably need to upgrade your fuze to use this effectively.

    • Interesting, noted. Any idea about which fuse and how much capacity we are talking ?

      • +1

Some cars have a dedicated cigarette lighter fuse. Otherwise, use another accessory and remove likely suspects one at a time until the socket stops working.

        • +2

In most cases it’s 10A.. or it used to be.
Which means 12x10 = 120W (yes I know the voltage is higher at like 13.5 if the engine is running).
In most cars I’ve ever messed with it the fuse was 10A for “ACC” or accessory

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: For 12V cars only up to 12V is supported, which means 100W max according to the description. Or 96W to be exact.

            • @tukanglistrik: Wonder if it can do the 100W/96W in the single usb c port when on 12V car system?

            • +1

@tukanglistrik: the delivery current of a cig socket is 120w max with a 10amp fuse. 240w if you have a 20amp accessory plug.
Also, it supports 12 - 24v vehicles according to the spec sheet.
With an output of 160 watts, this is not how much it draws and is probably a bit more if fully loaded due to efficiency losses.

The 100 w limit is the QC5 spec for one of the ports. if fully loaded on all ports 100+30+30watts.

TLDR make sure your cig socket is on a 20amp circuit (in a 12v vehicle). Upgrading the fuse may be ok but you want to make sure the wiring can handle 20amp.

      • +24

You should NEVER upgrade/increase the fuse rating on your car. The wiring in the car is rated for a certain amount of amps and the fuse protects it from melting and setting the car on fire. Manufacturers already use the thinnest gauge wire as possible to save on cost.

Cig socket in most passenger cars run through a 10A CIG fuse so its limited to about 120w-140w of load before blowing. Some bigger cars have 15A.

Cig plugs are awful because the positive centre pin has very little contact area and at high amps its a resistance point. I wouldn't run more than 5A through it tbh

        • Come on, a bent nail works just fine as a fuse upgrade!!! Jokes aside I have seen it in a house.

        • +1

so are you saying this item is not good to use in your car?

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: To charge 2x QC3.0 phones and power a dashcam, sure no worries

but to charge a 16" MBP plus two phones will likely blow a fuse

          • @[Deactivated]: Well don't use it for too long without the engine running or you will end up with a flat batt.

    • +5

probably should never ever "upgrade" the fuze without any research and knowledge of the car…………….

      • +1

If anything you reduce the size of the fuse to safe guard.

    • +5

This is not how fuses work.
I watched a video on YT just yesterday where a guy swaped 5A fuse with 15A "to add more power because better safe than sorry".
"Upgrading" a fuse means you make you system much more vulnerable to potential overheating and fire.

    • high end Outlander and PHEV 120w 12V in the boot
Sure a lot of other 4x4 do too

Basically allows for a small fridge ect.

      • That would most likely have a 10A fuse like comments above.

  • +1

All of this to charge a laptop in the car lol

this seems pretty good too, for those who don't need all 160w (a bit cheaper at about ~$35 and 100w)

    • I got one of these and also the 65w one. Got both off eBay for same if not cheaper price.

Works well, charges Surface Pro 7 no problems.

      • I have the 100W version too but pretty sure you need 24V to get the 100W similar to the 160W model.

Still good if can output 50W through usb c pd.

        • +1

          Only 12V 3A = 36W max for the USB C PD on 12V cars.

          • @tukanglistrik: Is that for the one posted by op here or the 100w version mentioned in comments?

            • +1

@ozhunter68: The one posted here, on one of the product images. I've never succeeded charging my 45W Thinkpad laptop (20V 2.25A) using any of Baseus car chargers. I tried both the 65W and 100W versions, and even tried using 5A cables, they all didn't work.

Also I noticed that Baseus chargers are slightly loose on the socket, I've since replaced it with my older Anker charger.

              • @tukanglistrik: I found my Basues 100W 12v/24v charger ( CCZX-100C ) and tried it on two chromebooks showing 1

2V-13V / 20W+-/ and 15V +-/30W+- and will test charging phone when battery low, although using usb C output

it shows Mi Turbo Fast Charging for my Xiaomi RN10 which can max out around 33W, but only Fast charge for the

usb A port ( battery was too full to get max watts charge speeds to show ).

          • @tukanglistrik: My 100W and 65W does 20V output on 12V input.

        • +1

I'm not sure, I don't have anything that uses that much watts to try unfortunately.

I do know that it does output 20V 2-2.5A and charges the Surface Pro 7.

          • @TieNN89: Is that 20V output showing up when you just plug the charger without a load,

or when you have a device connected that actually draws 20V?

            • @ozhunter68: Without a device plugged in, it won't show 20v.
But once I connect the Surface Pro, it changes to 20v.

              • @TieNN89: I have noticed over time with various devices using QC3/2 and USB C pd and using various car/240v/power bank chargers that they vary widely, even if all three have same capable charging tech and using same cable. Unless buying expensive original cables and chargers, this whole charging world is bit hit and miss if your chasing the advertised top charging rates.

                • @ozhunter68: That doesn't surprise me.
I've been happy with the 65w Baseus version of this for over a year, which is why I got the 100w one for future proofing in another car.

However, 160w is overkill IMO. What would need that much?

Oh also whenever I used the charger, it was only with ever with one device. IIRC you won't get full power if both ports are being used.

  • Is this the same item for $46.26 excl delivery?

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003696634807.html?spm=a2…

    • +1

yes, link in the deal and your link are same links.

  • +1

This thing trickle charges my devices no matter which car it is in. Not sure if I got a dodgy copy or if they can only provide such high wattage under really specific conditions, but it doesn't even work as well as my USB-A cig chargers…

    • Is it the same model of 160W ? How long ago you got it ? It has 75 days money back guarantee, if there is any issue.

    • Some devices may have proprietry or weird implementations of PD/quick charge (or whatever they decide to call it).
They may also not support the same voltages etc.

I don't have the 160W one but my 100W/45W does PD well for all my PD capable devices.

  • I thought my VOOC fast charge for Oppo A91 was great until I realised very few car chargers bother supporting it.

    • must be VOOC compatible ones can do rapid charging i guess

  • 160W ?!!

  • Keep one in the boot of my Tesla just in case I forget to charge her up.
    Did I mention I have a Tesla?

    • +1

      u just did right now

  • I'm guessing this could power a fast wireless charger?

Anyone know the minimum specs to power them in fast mode?

  • I got one of these recently for $10.50 but not sure if it's perfoming well
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07TSJ9GYG/

    • +1

Rommos brand + good reviews - good value product for the price.

Keep in mind 30W max for each port, but when using two together max 5A for both.

  • I reckon if u could set this up on Tesla and charge the car with its own battery, it will never run out of battery charge. 🤔 go ahead let Elon know about this idea so he can implement it

    • Elon has already upvoted this deal.
