I upgraded from a Mi Band 4 to this.

I'd say it depends what you want from a band. The biggest advantage is it has a stand alone GPS so you can go and exercise without your phone and track everything.

Downside is that the battery only lasts around 10 days (depending on usage, and compared to my 4 which lasted a solid month plus). Also if you are using the Mi App you'll have to start using the Xiaomi Wear app. Unfortunately it didn't transfer my steps or streaks from my band 4.

    • +4

is this better than miband 6 or the huawei band 6?

      • My partner has the 5 and we only really used ours for steps overall. Heart rate was sometimes used during big walks bug otherwise we don't use much of the features.
I think you're better off comparing the watches and what features you want out of a watch.

If you solely want a step counter/heart rate/sleep and a watch then stick with the mi bands.

If you want a few more features and also like the Apple Watch look then this watch. I've recently turned off the heart rate monitor (it's on default every 30 mins) so I'll see how long the battery life is.

Please forgive me…..i literally know almost nothing about smart watches, but am very familiar with Strava, its probably the most used app on my phone. Just to double check, you can go for a ride or a walk or a snowboard, wear this watch, and upload to Strava when you get back to your phone?

      • +2

It seems it can do exactly that

      • +2

I have my Mi Band and have strava, zero and MFP synced to g/fit. I use the Zepp app to sync the bands activities to with strava and g/fit. I have strava on my phone for mountain biking or a dedicated walk as well. I would feel the watch is bulky for downhill mtb though, but for walking yes you could leave your phone at home and strava would get the route.

        • thanks I am a noob and know nothing about these watch. thanks for the zepp app tip

    • Thanks for your comment and thoughts on this! I have a band 4 and was thinking of getting this but have changed my mind with the battery life and change of app to get it to work.

    • Doesn't seem to have anything over the Amazfit Bip - which will easily do more than a month AND has GPS. OK, I'll give it SpO₂ monitoring, which will tell you if you are about to die of covid.

      • A lot of these watches have really crap sp02 monitoring though don't they?

      • does only the Amazfit Bip U pro have GPS ?

        • To be honest I've lost track of the precise newer models, but I think the Bip S has both GPS and 30+ days battery life.

    • But in the Wear App, it has a feature to transfer mi fit data to this one. But don't know if it works properly.

      • +2

It transferred my workouts, but not my history of heart rate or steps.

  • +2

Does this have Alexa support? (For me to save quick to-dos)

  • I lost my Mi5 band today and am looking for another one. Due to skin allergy I need something to minimize the contact with skin. Any idea do you have guys?

    • I imagine you'd want the thinnest band possible……so a mi band 6 maybe? I bought my sister one and she was very happy.

I now have a gst2 mini though and I'm happy with that. The BIP series also could be worth looking at.
The reason I say this is because they all have 20mm bands which are generic and you might be able to find something that you're not allergic to like a fabric, nylon or leather strap?

      • Thanks for your advice. I found the band after inside-out the bag. I cannot wear any metal things.

    • Have you tried a third party metallic band? Helped me.

      • I am allergic with metals even gold. Actually if something keeps touch my skin skin problem starts. Cloth tags(I wear only ones with printed tags), hair… just anything except everyday cloths. If I have something in my pants pockets my thigh starts itching. That's why I cannot use watches(only band for a few days), rings, bracelets. Thanks for your help anyway.

        • Ah thanks for the clarification. Sorry to hear about your allergy. I'm not allergic but the cheap rubber bands that come with these, have a way of really irritating my skin after a few days. If I keep wearing them it looks like my wrist has been flayed!

  • How does it compare with an Apple Watch?

    • +33

      About $400 difference

      • +1

Nah, I want to get the same features for 400 bucks less /s

      • lololol

    • And the payment feature is also missing it seems?

    • +4

This will be good for fitness tracking..like Apple watch if that is all you need it for.
This also has longer battery life than Apple watch so you can track sleep more easier etc..
because you will need to recharge Apple watch daily (which makes it harder to track sleep)..

And from a distance or if you don't let people look too closely, most people will think you got an Apple Watch..

      • The series 7 watches (latest model) is reported to do at least two days.

  • Can it track swimming?

    • +2

Swimming is an exercise in my list on the Mi Lite, yes.

  • +1

Xiaomi has terrible firmware support for these. I think there was only 1 patch last year for the original model I bought & the "raise to wake" feature almost never works properly compared to Apple even with sensitivity set to high nor was there 'tap to wake'. I'd hoped they'd implement features but they didn't do anything nor did it have speakers making it even more primitive.

This is a slightly better model than last year but only just. The watch faces from a usability standpoint are mostly all bad. Good thing is the battery life, I wouldn't trust the heartbeat sensor

    • +1

With these products it's about what you see is what you get. Fortunately the functions are simple enough and well made that there's really no need for updates.

  • Wireless charging¿
Can you use the iwatch charger by any chance to charge it ¿

    • +1

No wireless charging on this watch

  • Are there any bands or smartwatches that can last a month or so with very light to light use? Only needs steps count and swimming mode.

    • +5

Amazfit bip will last a month. The bip s model with and without gps (lite) can be had for around $60-$80 on aliexpress

      • Cheers.

      • +1

how does amazfit bip s or non s compare to this?
        pros and cons..

        • +1

The bip s doesn’t have spo2 sensors. Otherwise they are very similar
The newer bip u especially the pro version is basically the same

          • @choofa: The bip S also can't track REM sleep. (Used to have one)

          • @choofa: does the Amazfit Bip U Pro last 30 day with GPS ?

            • @Willy Bargin: The gps drains the battery a lot faster. I was running 50+km a week on gps last year and it needed a recharge probably about every ten days. I’m not sure if there is an always on gps mode but I wouldn’t use that anyway. If I turn everything off and don’t monitor heart rate I get around 40 days before it dies.

        • Bip is GadgetBridge compatible, I don't think this is. This means the Bip can, with this app, collect your data on your phone and not share it with vendors.

          https://gadgetbridge.org/

          Works well for me.

  • +1

How hard is it to toggle bluetooth & wifi? Will need to at least 4 times a day in areas I need to work in

    • Also want to know if we can switch to airplane mode

  • mark

  • +1

Sorry a bit off topic but can I use this to track my kid ?

    • yes and no

Yes, connect the watch when the kid comes home. you can download their exercise GPS to the app.

No, if you want to find out where they are right now. better off getting apple track dot.

      • +4

Does that work with the Helicopter Parent 5.0 app? 🤔

    • +5

Just slip an Airtag in their Milo

      • +1

They will just shit it out.

        Need to implant it

  • +2

does it have storage for music that you can play to your headphone whilst exercising without your phone?

    • I’d like to know this too.

    • +3

No it doesn't have onboard music storage.

Amazfit Statos would probably be the cheapest smartwatch with this feature.

  • +1

Will this survive a swim in the sea?

    • +4

Depends on whether that sea has sharks or not

      • ahahaha.. Made me giggle.

      • It will survive the sharks but you won't

  • How do you choose black ? I don't want white

Put my order in now, help desk said there is no specific colour, should be same as pic.

    Thanks OP great price

    • Get some spray paint

      • Ok, I want to be like Michael Jackson colour

        • +1

          black or white?

  • Mainly using smart watches to read notifications - any ideas if this would be decent for it?

    • +1

i dont see why not. I've had a few amazfits / mi bands and they've all been solid for that.

Zepp / Mi fit are a little limited with notifications but do the job. You can use a separate app alongside the official ones for notifications. Notify for amazfit / mi band i think it's called. Not sure if it's available for ios but i use it on android.

  • Reminds me of sony smart watch 3

  • -2

For $72 on amazon if anyone wants with 4% cashrewards = 69.12

  • how are you getting $49.99 USD, i can only get $53 USD .
Is it better to set the site to AUD or USD?

    • Apply coupon BGRM2Lite at checkout & remove shipping insurance.

If you have a foreign exchange fee free credit card set up in your PayPal account, it's cheaper to pay in USD. If not, choose AUD as currency on the BG site, total AU$70.97

  • The prices are similar at Aliexpress Mi CC store. Which is the better option to buy from? BG or Aliexpress?
