Infusion Coffee Limited Release Pack (2x250g) - $60 Delivered @ Monastery Coffee

50

One for the specialty coffee drinkers:

This is a good deal on these two very interesting Colombian coffees - one infused with mandarins during processing, the other with cinnamon. Saving $12 by buying them together.

I've been brewing with the mandarin coffee over the last week and it's quite fun in the cup; like a young riesling with a citrus twist. I haven't tried this particular cinnamon roast, but it's a method increasing in popularity and tends to taste as it says on the tin… unmistakably cinnamon-y!

For those who still call this expensive: Yes, this is a far cry from the untraceable, ethically questionable, over-roasted coffees usually on OzB and the price reflects that!

  • What brew method did you use?

Tricolate, v60 and Kono drippers. The kono and tricolate had the best results as it's quite light roast and requires higher extractions to get the balance of acidity and sweetness right. It's an acidic cup regardless though, so be warned.

  • Would this suit espresso macchiato drinking?

The cinnamon might, but the mandarin probably not. It's really for black coffee, roasted for filter, though a turbo espresso can taste good too if you can keep the pressure around 6 bar. The acidity would be too much for milk, IMO, though a mac is about as little milk as possible so… YMMV!

This seems incredibly harsh considering how many great coffee deals are posted here with even more traceability than what you've shown.

This lists the name of the producer and farm…Outside of telling you the harvest (you can ask, they'll know) and lot number (only if it's a microlot), it doesn't get much more traceable.

I doubt, for example, airjo can tell you this.

How many other great deals with more traceable coffee have been posted here in the last year?

Agreed. You should just remove this section. It is expensive because it is a high quality coffee (probably 86+), and they clearly spend a lot of money on having a nice website. A lot of other coffee vendors are just as transparent and ethical, and we don't need to shame the ones that don't here.
