Apologies in advance if this is 'normal'.
About 6 months ago I entered the world of mesh with a 3 pack of the Tenda MW3. I've been really happy with their stability and reach vs my old setup of WiFi router and then WiFi router plus extender, neither provided stability throughout the house.
I don't use a separate modem as FTTP doesn't need it.
Today I had time on my hands and did some speed testing and am confused. I'm on a 100/20 FTTP with superloop.
When connected to the primary Tenda node (that connects straight to the NTD) either via WiFi or network cable the speeds are through the roof, about 103/23.
Then when I test against the second node, the speed dramatically drops, about 60/20.
When I get to the third node it drops again though not as dramatically, about 50/20.
I thought that the basis of mesh setup is each node is essentially a replica of the other so I wouldn't see such a drop.
Any thoughts?
It is normal to have speed drops at each node. You notice it more with some of the cheaper dual band mesh setups. Upgrade to a more powerful and ideally tri-band mesh setup for more consistent speeds on each node.
