  • LAG are very capable planks.

  • It's available off ebay with extra codes and cashback for the same initial price. (Codes might be account specific)

  • Good timing.

Anyone have any other recommendations for a beginner/intermediate guitar or is this about as good as can get?

Been looking for awhile and apart from seeing second hand not sure what to go for.

    • +1

It will be very hard to find a Solid Top guitar at this price, now whilst a Solid Top is not necessary for a beginner, it is a very handy feature to have.

    • If you can, it's always best to get an experienced player to go with you to try them out. If you're just starting out, it's hard to know how it plays and what 'good' sounds like

  • +1

How would you compare this to a Yamaha FG800 or a Fender FA-125?

    • +6

      side by side preferably

    • +1

Pluck strings E A D G B E and see which one produces the better sound.

    • Both will have more low end as they are dreadnoughts and this is an auditorium. Lag should sound more "middy" and vocal.

But the Fender is a laminated top, whereas the Yamaha is solid top, so the Yama should sound the most "full".

While you can't rely on specs alone, they're all fine choices. Get someone to make sure it's set up, though. The action is too high on many starter guitars it's going to be miserable to learn on, if not checked.

    Format : Auditorium

For those that care this is not a dreadnaught so the sound is a little brighter if that's your preferred sound.

    Also for the rep…

    • Letfty : No

Consistent spelling mistake in guitar listings for your web dude to fix

  • Smaller than dreadnaught makes it a easier to play too. Good price for a LAG

  • Is this a legit good buy? I always read on here to find a second hand Yamaha unit. $300 would be my max budget new or used.

I'm assuming I can't plug these in? I think some of the Yamaha do. Just for recording riffs etc

I use to play in high school, I'm out of touch. I own a Electric Guitar that I bought over 20 years ago, just don't feel like relearning on/and playing Electric.

  • For a beginner, are steel strings better than nylon?

    • Nylon is probably initially 'easier, on fingers but action setup is much more important. Most ‘beginner, guitars have very high actions making them hard to play. Lowering the action on my cheap acoustic made it much more pleasant to play. Chords (even barre chords) were also much easier to form and hold. Finger tips toughen up pretty quickly, so focus on 'action'.
For comparison, check out Artist Guitar solid tops and all solid options too. They have an excellent return warranty if not to your liking.
