Don't do Samsung fridges or washing machines!!!

Or Samsung microwaves. Bought one & it died literally a month after the warranty ended. Never again.

  • LG fridges aren't much better although they do keep working they are famous for thin/chipping paint after only a short time (usually right after warranty is finished mind you it's considered cosmetic anyway)
I'm looking for a good quality bottom mount fridge in the mid 400ltr Range (420-499ish) preferably in stainless steel (not coloured or anodised as it ages really badly and hard to avoid) Really appreciate anyone sharing their experiences. I have a 13yo lg fridge GR-391SCA which is still going although it has developed a yellowish tinge and has those issues of chipping along the inside door and various points of thin paintwork.
It's a tough one I've never been one of those people who replaces things just because they look old but tbh I never expected it to last so long. Thanks in advance, T

    DO NOT BUY Samsung appliances.

Our Samsung front loader's motherboard had to be replaced every 24 months. First time was warranty, 2nd time was extended warranty.
When the 3rd one died, we've decided not to go down the Samsung brand again.
Anyone who wants to buy Samsung-branded white goods must seriously consider getting extended warranty.
Samsung is a very expensive brand, in my opinion, for a washing machine that will only last <3 years.

Crap! I bought a Samsung front loader about 6 months ago and tbh so far I really love it but I guess time will tell. I gotta say they are so much better than they were 12years ago with regards to time of cycle and wrinkling/hard on fabric but all that will mean nothing if it doesn't even last 2 years. I skipped on the extended warranty as in the past I've always paid extra for them and never needed one but I think I can hear Alanis Morissette singing in my head 'isn't it ironic…… Don't you think!' ;D we shall see

+1 for avoid Samsung fridges, ours started pissing water into the crispers recently after 5 years, apparently it's a very common issue and there's no easy fix. My workmate also had a Samsung fridge die recently after <2 years.

avoid samsng fridges. Google ice buildup issue Samng fridges.
Affects a ton of their different models, all over the world.
They should be doing a recall but guess what. They dont care.
    After sales support is dismal.

    • My experience with a Samsung fridge has been excellent. I bought a second hand upside down, french door model and hasn't missed a beat. Been going good for about 5 years and has survived two house moves. I've never had an ice build up issue. Motor is very quiet. Maybe I got one that wasn't built on a Monday.

And I can still get spare parts. Recently needed to replace a spring in the door following some overly enthusiatic actions by a younger family member.

  • Is there any reason I should go for a top mount fridge instead of a bottom one?

    • Not really but most people open the fridge a lot more than the freezer so it's preferable to lean over the least amount possible.
I house sat for a friend who had a bottom mount fridge for a few months and after coming home I now find it kinda annoying not having things easy to view at a higher level and leaning over to get the milk every time I make a cup of tea lol
But I don't think there's any real advantage other than heat rises which may give a very slight efficiency gain?

  • Researching for a reliable model seems to be quite a task Have been doing a bit of a research for the past few weeks but still unable to decide on the right fridge. I am inclining towards a few models in LG.

Also, I feel side by side fridges seem to be for me more organized with one side entirely being a freezer. I might be wrong.

I am interested to know if French door is better than side by side in terms of space/functionality or is it just entirely personal preference?

    TIA

    • French door is good if you have stuff on platters.

  • I've got one looks the same as this one and if I could go back I would never get a Samsung fridge again absolute effin garbage !! The drip try is always gargling and a very rattly motor In it since day one. F&P I will go back too !

Recently purchased a Samsung inverter fridge and think its absolutely AMAZING! No running sound, food stays fresh for weeks after use by date, thats right weeks - not days! My background is hospitality so I know what I am talking about.

  • Used 3 different kinds of Samsung fridge and no issue whatsoever in last 15+ years

  • I've personally found mitsubishi fridges bombproof and they have a five year warranty - bottom mount link attached below - bottom freezer also has fully removable draws.

    https://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au/bottom-mount-refrigera….

  • I've had my 2 x Samsung fridges for 10 years now. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. To all those complaints, it must be a recent models…

Used to own a Samsung Fridge. More than a year later, when we returned from a week's holiday, we found that the fridge had no power leaving us with spoilt foods (cheese, meats etc). After some troubleshooting, we found out the cooling unit caused the power to trip (there was some ice build up behind the freezer section). Samsung sent in a technician to fix it. It worked for a few months, then conked out again due to the same issue. By this time, the fridge was already out of warranty. Called Samsung still, and to be fair, they offered to refund us the fridge cost.

I wouldn't buy another Samsung fridge. The one we had, the foot supporting the fridges weight was mounted on the actual door. Over time, the weight wore out the door hinge by damaging the bolts and holes. Now, I always look to see if the feed are on the actual fridge and not part of the door.

Maybe Samsung improved since then. Can't tell from the pics
