Saw this camera on clearance at the Windsor, QLD store while on the hunt for a new camera. They only had 1 in stock which I brought but other stores in Brisbane (Adelaide Street and Garden City) also have it in stock and on clearance for the same price. The staff member noted that cost price was $500. HN have these for $698.00.

I noticed that when the staff member couldn’t find the product on their system by keying in the product code - they could only find it by scanning the clearance ticket, so not sure how successful you would be by phoning a store, best to go in store.

Edit: Staff member said this was a national clearance.

    Decent price for this type of sensor. Had a g7x mk ii and it was ok for a while.

    Needed better for low light though so moved to Olympus mirrorless

        1" CMOS. Superior hardware and phones simply cant compare. Pixel count can be meaningless beyond 12MP. In fact, not sure whether is it a good idea to cram so many pixels into a small sensor.

        I used to have a G1X 1.5" in additional to the 5D MKii. Great for travelling.

        A few things phones cant do
        - surperior low light shooting
        - long exposure
        - bokeh (not software generated 'blur')
        - RAW

        $200 is an absolute bargain.

        Downside of this camera
        - not wide enough being 28mm eqv
        - slow lens f2.0-4.9

          My phone can shoot raw as well as long exposure.

          Also dark mode is pretty frigging good.

          Most phones probably not.

          But size of CMOS sensor can't compare. Totally agree with you on that one.

      Bit worse actually. From memory the numbering scheme was backwards so g9 line was bottom, g7 up, g1 top etc.

        I had a G2 in 2002. Then it went to G3 etc.
        After a while I couldn't keep track of their numbering system.

      Called most of the major stores in VIC less than an hour after the deal went up. Either had no stock or couldn't find the product even when searching the name on their system. Even Shepparton came up with nothing.

      No but apparently it can do clean HDMI output. HDMI out to capture card is higher quality for the same camera than using EOS utility.

      However, I am not sure whether it can do continuous operation without overheating, so it still may not be suitable to use as a webcam.

      I agree, I bought a ~$400 point & shoot a while back and the photos look garbage compared to a phone.

      Cameras can only beat phones at low light and superzoom.

        Point and shot, mostly garbage. This is one of Canon's renowned G serie with large sensor and full manual control.

        I had a 1.5" G1X alongside a 5Dii some year back. Excellent for climbing and able to do some pretty decent long exposure shots.

        Phones simply cant compare with superior hardware on proper cameras.

        Must agree. Bought two point and shoots in the last 12 months for the kids. One from Panasonic (TZ90) and Canon (Ixus 190). Both are horrible compared to the photos and videos from a Galaxy S9 not to mention the S21. I researched and couldn't find anything vaguely decent for the kids… so opted for those rather than having them walk around with cellphones.

        Regarding the two point and shoot cameras we own - they're not better for low light but are ok at zoom. Lowlight is horrific! Shutter speeds drop so badly that optical image stabilization doesn't help. My little one can't get a stable shot indoors. Arrrrrg. Outdoors are ok. Oh and white balance sucks eggs!!!

        Nuf said. Really disappointed with the state of point and shoot cameras. They've completely lagged cellphones.

          I took my Ixus 220 to the birth of my child, doctor asked for my phone after being frustrated at the load times between photos, but the camera did great historically, lasted me 10 odd years.

        Yes, all cameras without 1" sensors are garbage. Gotta look out for that 1" image sensor (minimum). This one is a good one with a 1" sensor and is far superior to any phone camera. However, it does look like the 1" sensors might finally be coming out to the next generation smart phones, this could be a game changer and make a dedicated camera obsolete.

            @coxymla: … with an unskilled user. Your phone does post-processing automatically. An image from a camera has a lot more room for improvement.

            Depending on the types of photos you're taking, that may not matter to you. I take most photos on my phone and am happy with the results for their purpose.

            Source: Have GR II/III, and iPhone 12 Max and a 21 Ultra (work).

            If 'brands' excite you, then look away in shock horror that a Ricoh (owned by Pentax lmao) doesn't fit your definition of a good tool. If a 'good' photo is one that had sharpness and HDR cranked to the tits, with fake blurring that makes someone's hair look like a halo around them then that's fine too lmao.

        Lol. A quality camera will beat a phone every time in every condition… with a skilled user… and post processing. A raw file captures more data and can be better processed beyond what comes out of a camera. Real bokeh beats fake bokeh.

        For the average user, phones now are more than good enough. Software that backs cameras in phones is amazing. Computational photography means photos look great without any work.

        Important to understand that modern phones have synthetic images - a lot of AI is (and simple algorithms are) used to make the image look better. Cameras are more natural, more real if you like, although, of course, there is no such thing as a real image.

        G1X should have quicker lense too. G5X has larger aperture, but smaller sensor than G1X.

      FWIW I'd consider getting something designed to be rugged and water resistant eg the Lumix FT30 can be found for under $200. Usually much easier to use under water, in snow, etc than something in a case. Image quality may suffer a little in comparison, although waterproof cases themselves can have issues with condensation etc impacting on the final image.

          I had an olympus tough camera. Dropped it in the ocean. washed up on the beach hours later and retrieved it. Still worked

            @belongsinforums: Yep - I have one of those somewhere…. it replaced an older Sony that was brilliant (frankly better images than the Olympus) but the kids broke the battery flap. Speaking of which, always make sure that all the doors/seals are clean of hairs or dirt etc - I've done a bit of underwater photography (I also have a Nikon AW1) and always prefer to err on the side of caution and - so far - have never lost a camera due to water damage. :-)

        This <$200 camera has much lower financial when damaged with water than $2,000 of the phones you mentioned. They are not completely waterproof & no warranty if damaged by water. You cannot unlock iPhone underwater with the face. It takes time for the water to damage the phone. Don't film underwater without special case other than for experiment.

        she makes me nervous when she uses my cameras, lol. i shoot a 5dm4 (portrait), 7dm2 (action), and a m6m2 (travel). so when she gets good, i will give my cameras to her so i have an excuse to get new cameras, lol. win win. probably going to get an eos r next.

      This camera has a 1 inch cmos sensor. Although they have improved over time (sensitivity etc) this is still larger than most cameras in that ballpark. If you wanted a current model 1 inch cmos sensor. You would be looking at $600+.

      Compare it to a Sony Rx100 m3 etc. I still use this camera… (has to be 5+ years old now too).

      This is a bargain.

      You can learn how aperture, shutter speed etc relate adequately on a camera such as this.

          I went from several p and s to an olympus mirrorless. Learned how to adjust aperture and shutter speed. Learned how to focus. I did say to Google for body recommendations for more up to date information

    Thanks OP, picked up the Panasonic TZ80 for $131 from OW Windsor after seeing your photo.
    JB selling for $449 so it's an absolute steal in my eyes.
