  • I'm negging this. Just went down and they had Brutal Legend in stock. Went to buy it and they refused to sell it to me as the sale starts tomorrow. No where on the website for that price does it state the price is tomorrow.

    • Brutal Legend was already on sale last week (Logan DSE had it on the trash table for either 2 or 5 bucks).

      • Well they still wouldn't sell it to me regardless.

        • +8

Ha ha, it's moved beyond the stage of, "Because we're hoarding them all for ourselves," and on to "Because [mod: language] you, that's why!"

  • -7

    Got the stuff i wanted.

    Thanks Dick!

    • if that's what floats your boat :p

  • +10

baa baa dick smith have you got any games ?
3 bags full in booked in employee names

    • +2

      Love your work.

  • Not enough quantity.

  • +1

Last time was fun but the sale was distroyed by the staff which will happen again.

  • +4

Omg why did mod delete the Dsi $40 thread

We were posting there to see where everyone were able to get there Dsi from.

    !!!!!

    • +3

unless u havent noticed, ppl are getting dicked around , NOT A BARGAIN ,
bargain =Something offered or acquired at a price advantageous to the buyer
in this case , its advantageous to staff.

      • -3

I got a 360 and 2 PSPs last stock clearance, not a DSE employee.

        • +3

          1 out of million.

    • +2

Mods must be DSE staff lol

    • Mod want to buy it themselves. Not a good idea publishing where stocks are available.

  • +13

    Another Dick Smith Staff Sale?

  • Posted in the other deal, but I got a copy of Once Upon A Monster for $5 - little one is very happy! :)

  • Got a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 for $2 and PS Move charger for $1.

  • +2

Wow. So people are getting sale stuff now?

Everywhere I've called says it starts tomorrow. Zero consistency.

    • Typical Dick Smith.

  • Any of this newly advertised DSE gear in store although now advertised at these prices, and on sale in store will be removed from your hands by DSE (Don't Sell Except to staff)personnel because they want to keep it for themselves. You - meaning anyone who is not a staff member can come back yet again tomorrow - after queuing of course - and be told by DSE tomorrow (Don't Sell Except to staff) yet again that they can't find it in the store room (because its full of only items held for staff.)

As for the explanation they are gonna hold it for you specially till tomorrow but they really shouldn't - well nothing's changed has it since the last time they did the same crap except this time they forgot to remove it all from display before the price changes.

Goods advertised are not being sold in store across Oz, even though they are on display in store, and scan at the advertised price. DSE (Don't Sell Except to staff)/ Woolworths couldn't give a stuff about trading laws -and nor does any Government Department. Australian retailing has become a joke.

    • Well, woolies can't sell quarantined stock it physically stops the cashier through a prompt, it's plausible dick smith can't too, but that doesnt make it less annoying

  • I know for a fact that DSE tuggerah has at least 5 DSi XL's in the display cabinet.

  • cant find anything i want

  • Quarrantined stock - whatever that is - is not supposed to be on sale out in store.

So your DSE explanation (Don't Sell Except to staff)is a paper explanation for something that is not legal. This stock was already on display and has been reduced, and just because (Don't Sell Except to staff) don't want to sell it to anyone not connected to (Don't Sell Except to staff)is not a valid or legal reason not to do so.

    • +5

Are you seriously going to say (Don't Sell Except to staff) every time you say DSE?

    • +1

I dunno wtf this guys trying to say. It doesn't make sense.

The sentence should still make sense when you omit the brackets.

And I don't hate it when people don't not use triple negatives.

    • And here we were thinking "Dick's Myth" was the pinnacle of wit.

  • .

  • re this quarranntined stock.. whats to stop the staff at dick smiths holding goods under the counter or out in store room for when their friends or family members come in to buy when there not so busy? i have a feeling this sale like the last one will end in tears

    • +5

No amount of expletives can convey my hatred for that person.

  • +2

I went to try to get a dsi xl from the Geelong "powerhouse" store on the highway and the guy said there were none left… even though it said there were some on the site. I know the page updates every night but I find it hard to believe so many went. It didn't even say "low stock". hrmmm. who knows. at least I got brutal legend for $5 which is a game I have wanted to play for awhile…

They still haven't marked down the stock so people have to know its cheap and take it to the counter. the whole thing is still a bit strange to me. I find it a really weird way to do business.

    • For DSE, "low stock" means 1 or 2, any higher than that & it's "in stock"
Also, display models will quite often count towards their stock level, even though they shouldn't…

  • +3

You know I'm starting to hate DSE more and more…
After being told that an advertised game is available in 2 stores right now, however the sale doesn't start till tomorrow, even though it's advertised today as on sale. "Hello! McFly!?!"

    • +1

They should make like a tree… and get outta here…

  • +20

Everyone is taking this too seriously. Hopefully DSE have learnt the lesson from the last debacle and that the report in the deleted DSi XL post regarding message given to staff is true (the one about no staff purchases allowed until Thursday). I know it's open for abuse - but that's life.
Anyhow, lots of stores are showing stock (for DSi XL), and this will be a bargain for the lucky ones that might get it.

Now that’ I’ve mentioned the deleted post, here are some things you might find useful in your Ozbargain quest (if you are after DSi XL like me):

Catalogue (just scanned it ;) sale starts 11 April (Clearly states “Limited Stock. Stock will vary by store”):

    Good luck everyone ;)

***Edit: fixed the receipt link :(

    • Thanks for the links!!!
      Helped out a lot

Was looking for that receipt :)

    • How was he/she able to buy for $40 today?

      • I went to store, chose the colour I wanted out of those remaining, and paid for it at the counter =P

        • was this before any staff caught on i wonder? Which means some staff/customers might have saw the updated price online before the "embargo" from HO came in. This would explain the ebay listings…

  • +1

I went to my local and they didn't have the games I wanted - quarantined - BUT I did manage to pick up Saints Row the Third (PC) for $15.

  • Dicks myth. That is all.

P.S. All credit goes to the original publisher.

    • +2

      Nice :)

I'm starting to think DSE is: Dick Shafted Everyone.

They're certainly starting to lose the faith of a lot of customers. The site is looking like one massive 'Out of Stock' page.

    • +1

Y U make me waste me negs? I only haz five :)

  • I've tried ringing 3 stores but none will answer.

  • +4

I wonder how many of the haters, who got burnt last time, said they'd never shop at Dick Smith again, will be lining up tomorrow?? Yeh, plenty.

    • Lots. Some people (non staff) did get items last sale, the only way to have a chance is to have a look. I'll be there tomorrow morning without the expection of getting what I want but if I do great.

  • Me:I would like to enquire about some stock
DSE staff member: If it's about gaming, it starts tomorrow and we can't hold anything.

  • -2

You guys have to stop blaming the staff, they are telling the truth. They aren't allowed to hold any of the stuff as that's been confirmed by multiple reps. Alot of the stock (that is out of stock now) was available in the morning, but is out of stock now due to people ordering online and/or via click & collect.

    • How can it be out of stock now, when very few items were available online. DSI's are instore only.

      • If the store has done the right thing it's put away. My local on the net says no stock however I went in and they did say there are several out the back which will be on display tomorrow. Only way would be to turn up and find out tomorrow.

        • Turn up an get fooled again. I see the image of DSE staff laughing at all us fools.

    • +1

The same staff who told every women. child and pensioner that they had no stock of any consoles at 9.00am last week after queuing up outside because they had taken them for themselves before the store opened?

The staff hadn't paid before opening because they didn't want to be seen ringing them through. They paid after they lied about having no stock.

DSE (Don't Sell Except to staff) have no right to be believed about anything anymore. The brand is finished. Refusing to sell gear to people in store who have the goods in their hands today is the final insult. Last week they couldn't get their hands on almost anything - when they do get to handle something they're told to come back again tomorrow, and fight for it for a third time. Mate you're trolling big time here or off the planet.

  • +2

    Not enough Stock.
Even Hitler is pissed off with the last sale
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuqfUrsuBbE

  • When people decide to buy in bulk, obviously there won't be enough.

Partly DSE are to blame, for not having a restriction on clearance stock.

    • +4

Agreed! One console per person, one copy of a game per person. If you're buying for your kids or whatever, I'm sorry, but too bad, you shouldn't get to buy 3 DS consoles & 3 copies of the same game & therefore make other people miss out!!

      • +1

Agreed. Kids can learn to share.

  • +1

i called my local store this morning and they said the sale will start Thursday…i just called the same store again and now they said the sale starts tomorrow….what liars!

  • +1

Why do they advertise & sell at these prices online today and when you go instore to purchase they say the sale starts tomorrow?

That is false advertising as there is no mention to the sale starting tommorrow on their website.
The games/accessories that are now sold out online clearly state that it is instore only and to check store stock for local availability.

    • +2

I think it is illegal. They don't mention anywhere on the site that prices are online prices only. When I went into store today they didn't say I had to wait until tomorrow. the new prices are already in their pos system even though the product isn't marked down.

Pretty much is is a repeat of DSE staff being dodgy.

  • -2

Last time they advertised, they got shit. This time they don't, still get shit.

    • +2

No, they are advertising these prices as being available now on their website, but going into some stores you are told that those prices aren't available until tomorrow.

  • Went into Moonee Ponds Dick's to pick up Red Dead for Xbox just now, was told not available till tomorrow, when I'm guessing the sale starts?

  • Guys, I have a question, anyone with a smartphone, have you tried showing the sale price on the website when they say the sale starts tomorrow? I think they would have to fold seeing its on their official site. they have officially advertised the prices.

    • I asked the guy @ DSE about this, he just said that he can't sell it, sale starts tomorrow, get in early…

      Real helpful.. NOT.

    • I can't speak for all, but at my local the sale games simply weren't on the shelves, so it's irrelevant.

    • I think it may have just been added not long ago as I don't recall seeing it earlier. But online now when you click on to the details of a dsi XL it now says:

"Please note: This price is available from 11/04/2012. Stock is available in-store only and is strictly limited. Stock will vary from store to store."

      • Yeah, definition of bait and switch. Changing details once you get in store.

Perth store said they were updating website. I said it's irrelevent, you sell at the advertised price. They didn't care.

  • I saw a copy of Civ 5 for $15 in Melb CBD. No one seemed to want it.

  • I wonder if any stores like BIg W, Target, Kmart have staff not quite smart enough who will price match? Worth a try i guess.

  • Went to Broadmeadow DS today, which is closing. Not much left on shelf, games are all open, but manage to find something in their "rubbish bin", lots of games there, many are actually empty case, took 6 of them which are still sealed and one $1 mw3 bottle, most on $5 clearance last time, staff scan it, and just don't want to show me the price, and told me the BS, most are $30 up, only rage which is the only decent game at $20. Where I said, they should be $5 because of the clearance "no, because we are closing, so our price is different with other DS, if you want cheap game, go another shop" So I happily took the bottle and left, which is the only thing I want, there are still 3-4 bottles left in the bin and around 50+ games.

  • Called the Gladstone (QLD) branch about the cheapo DSi XL. They have one, and its yellow. And "heaps of people" have already called about it. (lol)

  • +2

Funny thing is that you know all those DSI XL's are going to end up on Ebay.
Who wouldn't make a cent if they were given the opportunity to do so?

Employee's don't care about the Dick Smith Brand, since they don't own the company they are just selling stuff for them and most likely being given a low salary.

Prob will get negged for this post… but technically it is not wrong in any way. Shops are doing it every day, buying stuff cheap (from their suppliers) and then selling them to you for a higher price, they even do this in supermarkets!

Look at it this way, If you buy from Ebay, you firstly get it for cheaper than usual retail, and you still get warranty from Dick Smith/Nintendo. So either way you still win, you may not get it for as cheap as DSE would have sold it to you for, but then again "Early bird gets the worm (or in this case, an even earlier bird)".

Got Shafted by DSE last time with their sale, so prob wont care much about this sale too, might just drop by, if too many people then I'm out. I ain't waiting in a 3x3m corridor/hall to the DSE near me with 50 people squeezed inside!

Have to admit though, DSE should have done this sale another way…. they need to fire the marketing department!

    • +1

      :(
Please don't sell them on eBay.

There's people like me who don't have much money and who have wanted to get a DSi XL but couldn't justify spending the large amount on them. This deal is a dream came true for people like me.
You'll ruin children's dreams if you buy and resell them. :(

      • +2

Sorry but you're posting on OzBargain. No sympathy is involved when a quick buck is to be made.

      • We are not charities. And the product will still end up in the hands of a child.

      • +2

Unfortunately there are some incredibly selfish people on this site who love a bargain only so that they can make a quick buck by denying others the opportunity to get a bargain for something they'll use.

      • +5

All your DSi XL are belong to staff

  • +3

Doesn't seem to be anything in stock anywhere near me, and definitely won't be by lunchtime tomorrow. Waste of time.

  • +1

Negging… Sorry OP, nothing against you. It's just looking like another Dick Smith Fail Sale. So soon since the last one as well.

  • Is the Logitech PS3 wireless wheel for $10 worth getting up from bed and driving down to Dicksmith for?

What I mean is the wheel any good?
Does it work on the PC?

  • I'm sure there will be more stock and staff to handle the sale.

    • what makes you so sure?

  • I was told today that the dse stores that are closing are no longer owned by woolys but are now owned by a liqidation/administration company that now owns all stock/shop fittings/leases and staff and will have different prices to the other stores also they do not get price updates daily so things will change and will not be known until scanned i Saw a $900 tv scan at $500 today

    • and which DSE Store are you talking about?

  • Looks like the stores that sold DSi XL today are the closing ones.

  • I managed to pick up two today no problems. My two kids are very excited… thanks op

  • Managed to get my hands on a DSi XL today for $40. Neugeeza is in fact right with regards to the closing down ones being able to sell the products before the catalogue date. All other stores I attempted to purchase from before finding the Bankstown Megastore flat out said 'no, line up tomorrow etc'.

Only problem was the console came without the box (as it was display) and all the other parts which come with it…The rep though just gave me a charger and all the other relevant materials for free that are needed off the shelf.

    Pretty happy.

If anyone wants one when I called up Roseland DS at around 4 they had FOUR in stock - and Macquarie Centre had EIGHT in stock.

    • +2

Glad to hear you got one Peter as i am for others that were able to buy one today. I'll be happy if i can get one tomorrow but won't be too fussed if i miss out since there should be other bargains around. I hope more people can grab a bargain or two this time

  • I went to bankstown large store at 5pm and they had 2 x Logitech G27. shelf price says $499 but, it should scan at $139 I remember in past posts. I didnt ask the price though.

    • I'd get that but $139 is a bit much just for a wheel for me.

Seeing as the stores are closing down when is all the other stuff( TVs, stereos, computers etc) going to go cheap?

      • Those items will most likely get transferred to another store. They aren't part of the clearance sale, so another store can just try and move them as usual..

I did however notice that a lot of the TV's and computer gear was marked down an additional 20%.. So I guess they are trying to sell off anything they can without making a massive loss.

    • Can anyone confirm if they'll still scan at $139? A few stores I've called said that was a computer error and they're not being sold for that price.

      • It was a pricing error the last time. Will never sell at $139 again.
