1 unattended house fire free for the first 100,000 buyers!

    Kidding, nice bargain OP!

Rice does't taste the best with these, but at this price it's hard to say no! Best price I've ever seen a low budget rice cooker was at aldi for 10 bucks, so good find!

If your rice doesn't 'taste the best' when using one of these then you're doing it wrong. Are you washing your rice first?

      • I've had a look around and washing rice actually does squat to it other than remove dirt/bugs e.t.c Only taste difference is if you buy rice made outside of asia as they add nutrients and such.

        • +6

Washing rice removes starch I think it is. It makes the rice less 'gluggy'. The only rice I've tried recently that was produced outside Asia is SunRice, and that is noticeably worse (smell and taste) than Asian rice.

It does for SOME types of rice.
Specifically basmati rice, it removes some starch or more importantly; removes any leftover talc, as some mills in India/Pakistan use talc to assist in removing the husks

Generally in Australia, our food standards mean we wouldn't need to be washing rice, soaking however has a different purpose.

        • Washing rice removes the rice powder that flakes off the rice grains as they rub against each other in transport which causes the rice to be more sticky. And removes dirt and bugs.

Only takes minute to wash rice. No biggie.

Wash your rice, and it doesn't matter where it's manufactured. There is alot of rice dust which needs to be washed off..

I haver one of those for $15 from KMart or similar…

awesome price for a decent rice cooker
(they are all the same with different logos those cheap ones)

  • Unless you want to spend on a Tiger for $250 then get one of these

For some reason I got excited and thought it was a GTA V Rice Cooker.

    • that'd be awesome, GTA set in Japan, tokyo drift style!!

  • wow… gotta love these cheap imports… better to use this than a microwave.

    • +2

Microwave!? If no rice cooker, just use a covered pot and the evaporation method, as has been done for thousands of years.

      • I used to cook rice in microwave a lot. Well, in China.

That microwave have a rice cooking bowl(in description).

  • Is it only me that, I can see on GG website rice cooker as $18. Also can not find on lasoo link above as well.

    • Same here. Looks like Lasoo got early access to the catalogue and you can see it there. GG hasn't updated their own website, even their own catalogue doesn't appear there. Might be worth calling ahead to avoid a wasted trip.

      • Just got one from GG Maribyrnong. The ticket price shows $17.98 or something. They didn't know it's reduced until I showed them the deal on the Lasso website.

  • I am curious if these will properly cook brown rice as well. Has anyone had any experience with using a rice cooker for brown rice?

    • The manual says it cooks brown rice

Do you think this can still be had with 'less for cash' ? I mean, ozbargainers would ask.

    • +2

I think unless the sign says "cash price" then yes it would be less for cash as that is their slogan and they will do it. They might just drop it $8.95 though.

I remember when I bought a dryer from them which was on special for $249 and I asked them cash price and he said $248.

That way their slogan stays true.

I bought a similar rice cooker from Coles last year for $10, brand name is GE. We cook rice daily, the teflon pealed off after a few months. Not worth it if you are looking for long term usage unless you buy a couple of them and change it every few months.

for a moment I thought it was GTA 5…

  • Link isn't working for me now.
    I get:
There were no products found for:
    "gva 5 cup rice cooker"
Try searching by these related terms:
    gva | 5 | cup | rice | cooker

EDIT I wonder whether that is because the Lassoo website already has my SA postcode.
    Maybe interstate only?

  • i want one of these for ages have seen them around $20 never so cheap, thank you

One of the best rice cookers I have ever had, if i were you i would get on asap.

  • Not bad for the price but mine always leaves a crust of crispy rice at the bottom so you lose a little every time. Otherwise I've been pretty happy with it…

    • Leave it in the cooker too long on the keep warm setting.

  • Got a pricematch in Arnandale, sweet. :)
