Desktop Work PC Build - Budget $3,500

Hello all, I'm looking for some build advice for a $3500 build

I will not be gaming or overclocking but do rely on some real-time rendering programs for work, as well as video editing. The primary use will be CAD, Enscape, Sketchup & the Adobe Suite.

I have all monitors (3) and peripherals so really just after something future proof. No allegiance to intel or AMD but was hoping to get a 3080 in here.

I have seen pre-builts by BPC and Techfast, but I'm not sure if these are ideal… yet.

Other than this, requirements are:

  1. 1 TB SSD
  2. Quiet & Minimal Case like a Fractal Define 7 or Lian Li Lancool II. Something in white, dust filter with USB C would be nice!
  3. 32GB RAM

Would love any love you guys can give me in direction. I'll be buying parts likely from Umart or Amazon and getting someone to help me assemble. Possibly Shopping Express too if it's OzBargain approved. My understanding is that the 12700K is performing better than the 5800x at the moment.

This is where I have got too (though the mobo is garbage apparently) and I still need a cooler.

I'd have thought serious CAD work would want more than 32g ram.. ?

    • 32GB is OK but can always consider more!

  • Aim for higher than 32 (64 be solid, ideally 128gb if it's cheap). I would also recommend trying to get a 12900k instead of a 5950x - have mates who have the amd CPU and whilst it's good, supposedly the 12900k is much better (way better single core, and solid multi). Motherboards are expensive on Intel though.

If budget strecthes, try cop some quality DDR5 ram? supposedly CAD and similar in the works of updating to support faster speeds - might futureproof.

    • Will do. I'm not sure Ill get DDR5 but potentially can go 64 if I can offset the price of the video card a bit.

What are your thoughts of AIO instead of something like a Noctua setup?

      • AIO is cool, but high end Noctua these days have comparable temps. See GamerNexus for videos/youtube. I lean to Air cooler (Noctua) due to ease of access / maintenance etc. :)

        • Cool!

    • Thanks! Unfortunately delivery seems late January which is a bit late in the tooth for me… Also techfast seems to get mixed reviews on here.

  • For the minimal extra cost, get a 2TB drive

    • Will be shucking :)

  • you'll need 64gb of ram minimum

  • If you want a minimal build, go for a mini style case build

    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/647149/Lian-Li-O11-Air-Mini-…

is the case i would get

get a low profile noctua chromax cooler and a mini style motherboard and you are pretty much set.
also make sure the video card isnt too big for the case.
