  • it’s optically very good. i had the nikon f version of it for a while, better than my nikon 70-200 optically but not in other aspects. but i think $2500ish is too expensive, the nikon version i only sold it for $700 in as new condition.

Have a look at the reviews and try one in store. The only thing it shares with the old lens is the zoom range. The build quality, features(custom buttons, usb firmware update, custom focus ring capability) and image quality out of this new lens are amazing additions. The opportunity to carry one lens instead of 2 with somewhat better aperture is great for those who carry multiple lenses or bodies.

oh no i take back what i said, the one i had was f2.8-4, this one should be much better by the sound of it, $2500 sounds fair.

  • This'll go well with the condom deals

    Oh god no… that’s amazing.
    I usually carry a 35mm and either 85/1.8 or 70-180/2.8.
    resists temptation

    • Same, this is the only lens I would consider to replace some of my primes.

    Want this so badly!

    • same, it would pair so perfectly with my 150-600mm Sigma

  • Just FYI. I ordered this a week ago for this price and they're heavily pre-ordered. They're expecting stock in January (no indication if this is early/mid/late January), and I'm 36th in queue to get one. So yeah, take it with a grain of uncertainty.

That aside, I've watched just about every single YouTube review on this lens and I can't wait - it looks amazing. Typically shooting on a Sigma 24-70 for events (which weighs in at 800 grams+, and having never owned a 70-200, I am eagerly awaiting this lens for all my events, weddings, and so on. Weight doesn't bother me.

    • Same here, watched every video twice to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.
You can ask around about available stock and try getting it price matched. Worth trying to secure one earlier.

      • Spoke with Parramatta Camera's. ETA late February.
