After asking for advice which one to buy I settled on the Sunbeam EM440. Got it from TGG on Ebay using a $40 voucher that was close to expiry brought it down from $99 to $59.
It arrived 2 days ago, that's when the trouble started. I followed the instructions to see how to clean it when it later needs it. Pushed the 'unlock' button on the back, turned the grind selection dial all the way to line up the arrows. Took out the top half of the burr grinder and the selection wheel. Put it back together. All according to instructions.
Problem: the unlock button is stuck in the fully depressed position. The grinder appears to work, but the coffee is a lot coarser than I would have expected, even on the finest setting. Warranty issue out of the box?
Questions:
Those who have the same grinder, has this ever happened to you? Is there a trick to get the 'unlock' button to pop out again? Would the stuck button influence the 'fineness' of the grind?
What 'fineness' should I aim for for a good Espresso style grind. I would have expected somewhere between table salt and icing sugar, but the finest I get from this grinder is similar to table salt.
Sounds like it's not reassembled correctly.
Pull it apart again.
I don't have one anymore, but the cage part (outside ring of the grinding section) needs to be oriented correctly from memory.
