  • Nice, but no more Seikos for me till i get an SKX.

    • Love my SKX007 and wish I bought more years ago. Seikos sure have gone up a lot too.

      • Agree, I would have loved an SKX007, great for $250 back in the day, bit late to the party now.
Ridiculously overpriced now if you can find one. Don't know why they can't re-release one, and/or an an up-spec'd version.
Seiko's still have good brand recognition, nice faces/hands, lume but hardlex and cheap bracelets are annoying for the expensive price these days.
Half price of RRP is the right price for Seikos :)
I've seen a mate's steeldive, they are a great option (bezel doesn't rotate which I found odd).

        • Which model Steeldive? I have the SD1970 & it definitely rotates.

If you like the SKX the Seiko 5 SRPD73 is currently on sale for $229.00 + 6% CR.

          • @WatchNerd: It's the same one, my mates- I had a look , didn't seem to turn, unless tight from the factory or something?

          • @WatchNerd: Ps. Not really an issue for most people who aren't going diving, I prefer the Pagani Daytona with the fixed bezel as they don't always line up perfectly, too much Play etc. even on the Seikos haha

            • @G-rig: Update
The Steeldive bezel turns, my mate wasn't using enough force but strange it was that tight from the factory

You can buy one for less than this in an SKX009J1 variant today and every day of the week. Currently AUD$436 delivered from Creation Watches.

FWIW I think the current fanboyism for the SKX series and the price that SKX007(J) models are going for is ridiculous. They were neither rare, nor amazingly spec'd for the price tier they are currently at.

This!! I love my 007 but are they worth what the current asking price? No

When I visited Smales I'm WA to put my name on their Rolex list, I had a look at some of their Seiko watches and was impressed. A lot look better then their photos. What are they like for resale?

Not to flip but to sell if I feel like a change. Is there a decent market to sell them and get most of my money back?

PS, the Rolex list was closed.

    • Might wanna check watches of Switzerland, their list was open a few months ago.

  • I love this watch. Has been on the top of my list for some time. Now that it's on sale here (and also this price at Prouds) I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger. I'm so spoilt by my Seiko and Citizen solar divers that I don't really want to deal with having to re-wind for date and time every time I feel like wearing this automatic. Not interested in complicating my life further by getting one of those winding storage systems either.

you guys keep talking about SKX lol WHAT THE HELL its old movement and nothing special about it. wake up lol

    • It's probably because those are the iconic divers, that had a good balance of features, quality and style for the price, instead of average value offerings where you're mostly paying for the name. Definitely wouldn't pay more than half the RRP for any Seiko given there are always deals like this.

The SKX007 was a good size too, without looking massive like most of them now.

Most of the current seikos are still using cheap/old movements anyway, when they should be using an NH35/36 etc.

NO THE LATEST MOVEMENT IS MUCH BETTER THAN NH35

        • yelling, haha
          Which is the latest?

7S26 is worse (no hand winding or hacking), assume you mean the 4R / 6R?

The Caliber NH35 (also known as NH35A) is one of the most popular movements on the market that you can buy. The NH35 is essentially a non-branded version of the Seiko Caliber 4R35, but with much more accuracy. It’s a popular choice for modders and hobbyists as an affordable-yet-reliable movement with decent specs.
“NH35” and “NH35a” refer to the same caliber and are used interchangeably.

    • Because it is a well made, good looking, reliable and dependable watch! I got mine for $200, for that price it was the perfect watch.

      • +1

The Monster and the SKX007 completely dominated the $200-300 watch market for the longest time, and for good reason. Nothing touched them for wearability and dependability at that price at the time. I owned both, and paid 200-ish for both and would happily buy them again in that range.

Bump them up towards $1000 and all of a sudden it's a very crowded market and the SKX is no longer the standout, in my view.
I am a Monster and SKX fan, but at the current prices it's like a discontinued Hyundai i30 or Toyota Corolla all of a sudden being $65k. It's a crowded market and their main advantages of unarguable value are instantly eroded.
