Bulbs are a great deal imon(got the 5 pack), but the fairy lights are too pricey even discounted.

200 bulbs at HN, much cheaper at bigw (500 bulbs) or bunnings (350 bulb rgb mirabella smart $29).

Not stated in the description or specs, but I think these are wifi. TCP/IP for lights bulbs????!!!
Bob Kahn & Vint Cerf would be rolling in their graves, if they weren't still alive.

    • Smart (WiFi) allows you to do basics like turn them on at sunset and off at a specified time, I think this alone (i.e. without utilising more advanced smart features) makes them worthwhile having.

        Point is … Zigbee.

        • Dumb this down for me. I have a few of these bulbs from a previous deal and for the most part they are good (wifi speaking) have have needed to be reconfigured on two occasions. There is a better way?

          • @Click_It: A few bulbs is fine. It becomes a problem when the addiction grows, and you want your whole home on smart-lighting.

Zigbee is the main alternative to wifi - Hue, Ikea, etc.

            • @bargaino: Thanks for explaining. Yes I live in a tiny studio. I imagine a full size house with these in all rooms would become a problem. When I was leeching someone elses internet from upstairs the lights would often struggle, be slow or just be unresponsive.

  • Using the thrill $50 gc for $43 from cashrewards for these, thanks. Then pairing to alexa so I can be efficient / lazy

  • Maybe it's just me but these have been the worst quality so far. Bought 15 last time this deal came around.
6 did not connect to the app at all. Did not have any markings on the bulbs like the ones that did work although they were in the same box.
2 just stopped working a couple weeks in.
Returned and got a refund from HN.

My experience for anyone after the simple white bulbs: (i have 5 in use)

The bulb build quality is pretty much trash. The bulbs are super light and have minimal heat dissipation and will likely overheat if you place them in confined lighting fixtures. (think those dome shaped light diffusers on the ceiling) For everything else i think they should be fine.

The app is connectsmart or smartlife - either work with these lights and offer some functionality but i only used the apps for the pairing process and the rest of use was through alexa or google home. Same with automation. The pairing process was a bit messy for me since the bulbs sometimes struggled to pair. Once pairing was complete i didn't have a single problem however.

The lights are decently responsive, but a tier behind the lifx and philips hue bulbs sometimes.

I was actually surprised with how bright these bulbs get and don't use them at max brightness in the kitchen. (The light fixtures are drop down ones there)

While they offer 0-100% brightness control, the difference in brightness between the brightest and dimmest isn't large. And even at the dimmest can produce more light than you may want, so reserve these bulbs for areas that you would normally want moderate-bright lighting.

The lights offer adjustable white temperature. This is amazing to have on cheaper lights like these. Even some expensive lights don't offer this.

Additional tip: for those of you with zigbee compatible alexa speakers, get a $10 zigbee door sensor and you can trigger the lights everytime you get home at night.

    • Thanks for the info. I have those dome enclosures and find it difficult to find smart bulbs that are small enough to fit. Lifx mini are the only ones that fit.

    • Thank you for the detailed feedback. Besides feeling that it is too light, have you actually had one fail? how long have you had yours for and how much do you use it? (to help understand longevity)

      • +1

Haven't had any fail yet. I mentioned them being light becuase it points to a lack of cooling for the LEDs. And this is what kills lights. The lifx bulbs of similar brightness that i have weigh maybe 4-5 times these.

I've had mine since the last bundle deal on them and have only been using them for the last 2 months. I doubt they'll fail anytime soon.

      • +1

None of my 3 have failed in 18 months, on at least >12hrs a day most days.

    • Same experiences as you with these bulbs. Pairing always had hiccups but after that everything has been great until we have blackouts.

My issue, not specifically with this brand is lack of brightness/lumens though judging what you previously said I understand why this is the top of the lumen range. My area is large with lights spread out far between. It's fine for general lighting but not work light and too dull for the bathroom. I need a brighter bulb for work use (home office)

And yes the 1% is sometimes still too bright but generally speaking, I've been happy with these apart from the above points.

  • Got some B22 and E27 white in the last deal.

E27 were flashable to Tasmota with Tuya-convert OTA, but B22 came in a newer style box and not flashable (likely newer unflashable firmware).

Have used E27 for a while, pretty happy with brightness, temperature and dim options, however does often lose it's connection if there is a long gap between powering on at light switch.

    • What's the advantage of flashing to Tasmota? Is it to be able to use the device without needing google or alexa assistant? Is it to remove the privacy concerns of the bulbs having to go to an overseas server? I'm having some trouble understanding the reason from googling.

      • +1

Off the cloud, not wanting to give away private home network security details to external servers is my main reason.

There are several advantages in speed & control as well if you use home automation control software on something like a Raspberry Pi.

Some simple command line config work also lets you customise devices flashed with Tasmota a great deal more than you can in the generic apps e.g. button press time or number to give specific function.

Is certainly a rabbit hole that takes a bit to get going with, but happy I did. If you're not a tinkerer at heart then probably best left alone.

  • Thanks OP

I'm willing to buy this from HN to try out. It's been over 15yrs since I've darkened HN's doors. Here's hoping Click'n'Collect keeps me in the car lol

  • Can not find the 5 pack E27 option on HN website?
    Is this deal over?

    • Looks like its over. The normal link is there. It used to say '$10 or 5 for $25'. Now it just says $10

      • Oh. Thanks mate.

  • 5 for $25 is over, the regular white bulb is still $10ea, and RGB $12 for both B22 and E27.

Gotta say I C&C 5 white smart bulbs to compliment the kids Xmas Google nest hub 2 and it was a great experience.

Need Connect Smart Home* on the phone, make your account.
Get the bulb in pair mode and pair it to your phone using the phone.
That's it…control it through the app. (you don't need the app it's just simpler this way)

For Voice commands from Google Assistant:
Need Google Home on the phone and setup to the Nest.
Look for Devices, then choose 'Works with Google Assistant'
Search and select the Vendor of the bulb, so Connect* vendor
Give permissions for Connect* to access Google and other permission needed.
Enter the password for the Connect* account.
You should see the Bulb in your smart devices list, go to your nest device and add the bulb to your room or what category you've put it in. And you're done. Test it out.

Did this for 3 kids and it worked first time each time. Just know that each needs a device and gmail account if they're getting their own. I had to put the youngest on my account as they don't have a phone or tablet. I've since deleted their account from my phone and the app's (both of them) and it still works as expected voice control and all.

All of a sudden it's fun to go to bed, set alarms and make calendar entries, let alone youtube and music. Next it'll bee RGB and scenes. I kinda want one lol

  • clicked and collected, put too much trust in them getting the order correct and didn't check- they packed the wrong bulbs and now have to go back wasting my time to get the products as per my order because apparently they all look the same
