Good deal for those that want new Siri remote and free shipping. Doesn’t really go much lower in price and great last minute Christmas gift.
Normally they go pretty quick at this price and you get full apple warranty.

can someone explain why someone might want a apple tv when there are far better options out there like chromecast, Playstation/xbox consoles or maybe even a firestick? my ps5 plays all the common streaming apps, nothing from apple/itunes but honestly what do they have that the others dont?
auto frame rate matching on all streaming apps for one
what apps are inc or supported on an Apple tv?
Perfect for Zwift.
Zwift has no android support.
and what is zwift? clearly i have never needed to use it as i never heard of it so its not very main stream.
Home training on your bicycle. https://www.zwift.com/
@scratchy: ohhh wow.. ok then.
Apple has the nicest OS and best remote, and overall feels premium. If you don't care about that, you may as well just go Chromecast.
Best device for Plex at the moment. Android app is a complete mess.
so i can stream my shows i got on a bay freely without any issues on a apple tv?
Correct, if you set up a Plex server for yourself, it works flawlessly.
Siri searches content across all your subscriptions - so you could say the name of a movie and it searches all the catalogues to see what one has it available to stream
Is also just a really easy and well thought it way to consume content.
I thought the same until I had one given to me, then I bought another one for the second TV. Trying to find stuff using the PlayStation is a ball achetalking to devices is so hard, i once asked it to play fraiser, it gave me a list of movies about fire… never again have i used that dumb feature.
IMO Apple TV is much nicer to use than Chromecast and firestick. I use the Chromecast with google tv at my partners house and the latest 4K max firestick at my tennis club. Everything is much quicker on Apple TV, remote is better, menu is easier to navigate and it’s a decent gaming console. I have 2 steelseries nimbus controllers and an Apple Arcade subscription.
Can’t comment on a comparison to Xbox or PlayStationIf you're in the Apple ecosystem like I am, it just makes the most sense. Plus a PS5 is over $700.
yeap, i know how much a PS5 was. and i love owning one since last november. im android as its so open and free to customise everything on my phone. i was an iphone user before you lot thought it was cool, back in iphone3gs days. then i found the light and realised how locked down that phone was and never looked back.
You use your ps5 to watch netflix etc? I would burn the house down if I leave my ps4 on for more than 2-3 hours. It's so badly designed, even putting a fan underneath doesn't seem to cool it down.
sure do, netflix, stan, plex and prime. but i mostly play games on it so its more a 80% games vs 20% tv. a typical saturday is 12 hours of games and 2 hours of tv, the rest is sleeping.
Must be something wrong with my ps4 then. It's getting long in the tooth.
@spasto: Try opening it to clean it out. Could just be dust build up.
If price is your main concern get a chromecast.
If price isn’t your main concern and you want a powerful, easy to use device with the widest range of decent apps get an Apple TV. If you want games and prepared to pay maybe a Shield or step up to a console, but an Apple TV does those too.Everything already mentioned + other small things that make me choose it over other options I also have around: seamless airpods support, siri is actually helpful e.g. saying 'what did they say' and it rewinds 10 seconds and adds subtitles for that section, best outlet for fitness apps (I use apple fitness+) and other apps too (I like night sky and weather apps for tv), airplaying stuff from all your devices and it doesn't even need to be on
Not really about just "what they have that others don't" - if that was the metric, then just get an old refurb Dell Optiplex and it'll have more features than any other alternative. The value of the Apple TV is really in its integration with other Apple products, e.g. you can connect them to AirPods pretty easily. If you have a Mac, you can AirPlay to your Apple TV. You can easily play music to your home theatre through your Apple TV by changing the audio source on your Mac / iOS devices…etc.
How much these features matter is probably case-by-case, but for some people, they like the simplicity. FWIW, I'm not really an Apple user, but know many who are and always appreciate how integrated the services are.
Some people buy Apple products as a status symbol. I would rather spend more, buy Nvidia Shield Pro at $268.
Apple TV is tiny in size for someone to "show-off"… at minimal you need an i-mac 27 for "status" .. btw I didn't neg you.
Apple TV can also act as a hub for all HomeKit smart devices like lights, cameras and doorbells etc.
like my philips lights, brightsync and genio?
Not sure but if it has “works with HomeKit” label on the box it should work
Homebridge will make 99% of smart devices work with Apple Ecosystem.
Just get a Rasp Pi, set it up (heaps of video tutorials) - and Voila!
Anyone got a comparison between this and the Nvidia Shieldpro?
I’ve got both.
Shield pro is good but with the ads on the Home Screen is a turn off for me. Also the layout and UI isn’t as good as the ATV. Having said that it still is a great steaming player, especially non-Apple users.
I have been an Android phone user for a while but now moved to iPhone because when I started to disabled tracking features on my Android a lot of my apps started to played up.
Like others has said. If you have Apple devices ATV should be a no brainer. ATV with iPhone works a treat. When you need to enter text, it uses the iPhone as a keyboard input.
Yeah I have iPhone/watch but I was tempted for the Shield Pro for gamestream and geforce now, plus running it as a plex server is tempting too, hard decision when the officeworks new one is $220 vs $269 for the Shield Pro
Edit: oh the new shield has the apple tv app on it now, think I'll go for that
Atv or shield pro ?
If you have Apple devices get an ATV. Else, get the Shield Pro.
Officeworks has them for $229 as a comparison to new price - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/apple-tv-4…
