Nice Find! I snapped one up. I initially thought it was out of stock because the button says "notify me when back in stock", but doesn't appear to be accurate

    • Yeah you are right. When you add in the cart it will shows there are stock still available.

I've never understood why some of these mats are tapered at the leg end. Just to save a tiny bit more on weight?

(I like to sprawl as mush as possible - this taper doesn't seem to help.)

Yeah agree. I think to save a few grams. I have a 4 season hiking sleeping bag and it’sa coffin shape, you can’t spread your legs out, it’s pretty uncomfortable. But light and warm.

mats I can't speak for but tapered sleeping bags are for warmth and weight. The idea behind the coffin shape for a sleeping bag is that it keeps more body warmth.

I can't compare a coffin vs non-coffin shape bag because I've never been in the same bag in the different cuts. I have a coffin shaped bag and am very happy with it when the temperature drops

      • Better to go with a quilt. Will be far more comfortable and lighter. Plus as long as you have a decent mat (with high R-value) then you will be warm in the winter.

Because the winter bags are tapered.

You can't really have big roomy winter bags, they waste a huge amount of heat and are very difficult to keep yourself warm in due to the volume of air that requires heating.

Similar for air mattresses. More air volume means a lower R value unless it is offset with insulation or reflective material.

You can get several sea to summit air mats in rectangular shapes if you aren't concerned with lightness and/or function.

      • Ta, makes sense.

And hear I thought that they were selling my next door neighbor called Mat LOL

  • As much as I appreciate good quality and I'm all for lasting items, this one is twice as heavy and many times more expensive that the cheapos that I have and that I look after. I use them a couple of times a year, any season, while doing some easy camping - that is driving to the destination, staying over for a day or longer, packing up and driving back home.

For the same reason I don't use any dedicated packing bags, just some sturdier plastic shopping bags.

If I was going for a multiple day hike or to some more extreme conditions, perhaps I'd consider spending $200.

Yeah the weight is not ideal, but I hope worth it for the extra durability and leak resistance compared to other inflatable mats, and without the bulk of my usual thermarest foam pad. I've seen people unable to inflate their thermarest pads at the beginning of week-long hikes before — did not look like fun.

  • Looks like it sold out now cheers !!
