    stupid prices

Who is paying more than Kmart prices for one of these?

      • +8

People who want much better than Kmart quality and performance from their air fryer I guess.

There is a reason why this Philips air fryer, the Premium HD9861, and the smaller HD9742/93 version came top and 'highly recommended' in Choice's 2021 Air Fryer review.

I think ozBargain is a bit out of your league. You might wanna consider ozPeasant.

  • How often would you have to wash this?

    • The basket and tray is dishwasher proof so wash after each use

    • It really depends on what you're cooking, but washing the roasting tray every 2nd or 3rd use is typically fine - I would give the rest of the machine a quick wipe after each use to avoid excess buildup though.

How often would you have to wash this?

      Every time 🤦🤢

    • I suspect covid is no match for what’s brewing in your belly having read your comment.

I find unless you're heating up something that has all the liquid bits contained (eg a pork bun), enough oil from the food gets flung around that you end up having to clean the whole thing. It's also a bit of a hassle that it has a fat draining tray that is separate to the basket, so you have to wash four different pieces every time (plus occasionally the element and roof) - the basket, the fat tray, the grill and the handle/frame bit (I remove the fat draining tray when I use the mesh). Other brands have just a couple of items to clean.

My view is despite the fancy Twin Turbostar technology spruiked in the Phillips, that most air fryers are similar in terms of performance so it's the convenience that sets them apart - especially washing. While this unit does let you throw stuff in the dishwasher, it comes in enough pieces that it takes up a lot of room on your bottom rack. I'd go the Instant Pot (getting these for my parents for Christmas) or similar again, if I had that time over.

If you are a Costco member I saw HD9651/91 model in-store for $369.99

In-store. They had a big stack

    • Isn’t the Costco one is a discontinued model?

    • +1

Great price however Costco is an ineligible reseller under the Philips cash back promo.

      • +1

I don’t think there is any cashback offer on the model that I linked

  • We have Philips Airfryer HD9216/91and HD9650/93, in my experience HD9216/91 is better than HD9650/93, which only cooks half of the chips but has three times more oil at the bottom after cooking. It is the same when reheating the chicken and chips from KFC.

I hate their naming scheme :(

  • Can get extra discount with afterpay promo or commbank rewards …

  • How does this compare with the $29 Woolworth model?

    • +1

Cannot compare with Woolworths but can compare with the ALDI Ambiano Digital model IA2361 which I purchased for $69 over 2 years ago.

The Aldi model was our first air fryer and we were reasonably happy with it, mostly using it for chips, chicken and fish pieces. The recommended timings were a bit hit and miss and you always had to check for over/under cooking just in case but the digital timers worked very well. Was a bugger to get completely clean - the coating on the non stick basket started peeling off into the second year. Best thing about the ALDI was the 3 year warranty so that when it suddenly stopped working after about s years, we got a full refund.

Now we have the Philips Turbo star and the difference is night and day. The fan seems to be much more capable at pushing the air around and we always get well cooked meals. As a result we feel confident cooking a lot more things in it and the recipe app is brilliant. Very easy to keep clean too.

In the end you get what you pay for with the Philips - they are the top selling air fryer world wide and well worth paying extra for imho.

Good to know thanks. We like to eat as healthy as possible so coating mixing with food is not our wish.
