Been desperately waiting for a cheap AVR, this seems to be the cheapest going at the moment. Be lucky to find one used for this price. Just wish they would go back to $200 like at the beginning of last year! Need an AVR to drive my speakers over HDMI ARC since my Samsung M7 from that previous deal only has ARC audio out. On a separate note, anyone have and cheap 2.1 hdmi arc amp suggestions?

edit: can also get it with a full 5.1 speaker set for $399 at bing lee https://www.binglee.com.au/products/yamaha-5-1ch-home-theatr…

Cheap for the full 5.1 set (I have zero knowledge about quality etc but Bing Lee reviews all look great)

  • Appears gone.

Just checked, looks there to me

      • Apologies.

My bad, different address on listing.

I’ve got this it’s pretty decent, basic to be sure but great sounding.
Unlike newer or fancier models it provides a high level subwoofer output…. This no longer appears to be in style so much, with most newer models being a line level sub out.

  • Anyone know the comparable RX model? RX-V385 maybe?

    • I have the 385 and it has better connection points for the surround speakers. Not sure of other differences.

      • 385 supports Dolby Vision and HDR passthrough. HTR-2071 does not. This may or may not be relavent to many. If you've UHD BD player with dolby vision or media player like Nvidia shield that supports it then 385 would be the relevant model

  • Far out!

I had been holding out for a cheap receiver for 5.1 (preferably Yamaha) since early September and I finally caved last week and bought something 10 years older than I really wanted on gumtree for $150 because there just hasn't been any stock new or used anywhere.

    Good find OP!

I have this amp at home, was sub $200 almost two years ago. I upgraded from a HK151 which had so many problems with hdmi passthrough and satellite speakers. This amp just works, so worth the money

Yamaha seem to make the more reliable AVR's I've used. Their CEC/ARC seems to play nice with most things I've noticed.

Thank you all for the feedback, I bought one today based on your comments :)

  • One of the reviews was about Netflix not working. What's that all about?

    • +3

No idea, a "Netflix box" could be anything. Most likely some dodgy Chinese eBay box with creative HDMI implementations.

I have one working with Nvidia Shield and previously with a no name android box, no issues

    • I've had issues before using an Nvidia Shield for Netflix via this amp, where the HDCP authentication can fail and refuse to play videos (only hear the audio and see a warning displayed). Not very common, usually I just need to restart the TV/amp/Shield and it will work again. Upgrading to better quality HDMI cables reduced these issues. Wouldn't write off the amp for that though, it's fine 95%+ of the time.

That could be what they're referring to.

  • Thanks OP, got one to update from my RX-371 which has been struggling with 4K content for some time.

  • Would anyone know if there are any decent branded receivers with similar specs & pricing to this and has Bluetooth?

  • Thanks guys, gives me something to think about.

  • Don't forget 7% cashback with Cashrewards

    • It is only 4% on home electronics

Full 5.1 is $395 at Harvies if you want to avoid BingLee Shipping charges.

  • Can’t believe I decided not to buy this for $185 nearly two years ago. Need it now and bought. Thanks!

  • Hey guys which one is better?

The OP deal or this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/665053

  • Is this 4k?

    • From the link:

Question: Does this receiver support hdr10+, dolby vision or hlg?

Answer: The manual doesn't mention any of these in settings or supported formats/coding
      these are video specs
      HDMI® (4 in / 1 out) with 4K Ultra HD full support (4K / 60p [4:4:4]), HDR Video and BT.2020

      • Thanks mate so is that a yes?

        • Yes
