is DP still a commomly used output?

    • +2

      Yes.

    • +4

      In work/industry purposes, absolutely.

The standard is probably more popular than the port these days, as DP over USB 3.1 can display up to 8k 60hz

    • Dual DP on my recent purchase. I had to buy a DP to DVI cable.

  • +2

With DP 2.0 cables starting to appear, personally I would wait a bit.

      how different is it?

      • +22

        0.6

        • -2

meant to ask what's different about them, not the difference

  • accel cable, nice

now I also need a drag cable

and then a chamber morph cable

  • I'm using a macbook. Is there a USB C (Thunderbolt 4) to DP cable on sale?

    • For M1/M1 Pro/M1 Max, you are generally better off going for USB-C to HDMI dongle (if you want stability). If you really want USB-C to DP cable or converter for M1 series, make sure you check the user reviews. If you just go for cheap ones, you might end up running into issues.

      • Sorry I'm not using M1, it's Intel 2019 16 inch model.

      • I had no end of issues with the with my M1 and the Apple HDMI dongle, once I replaced it with a decent quality Thunderbolt -> DP cable my problems went away.

        • Is your monitor 4K HDR? If yes, when using that cable, do you get the HDR option?

Also, if you were to unplug the cable and plug the cable back in, does the monitor work? I am having issue with M1 with USB-C/alt-mode (and that's with USB-C to USB-C cable). It kinda works, but Apple pushing it to go 10-bit does cause a slight issue.

Is your cable actually Thunderbolt -> DP cable? Or, it is USB-C/Alt-mode -> DP cable?

          • @netsurfer: Just 4K. And Thunderbolt -> DP. I regularly unplug it and plug it back in and it works flawlessly so far!

  • It shows $87 now

  • Seems expensive? What's special about this?
