Great price and well worth a post.

I've had a bad experience with a Blaupunkt TV noted here. It was 3 years ago, so I'm sure they're totally different models now, however, the one review on the Officeworks site isn't glowing and is consistent with my experience.

For those old enough to remember the original Blaupunkt, that company no longer exists. It's now just a brand stamped on Chinese panels.

I was suckered into this purchase by the brand name, thinking back to the '90s when I lived in Europe and had excellent Blaupunkt car stereos.
I bought the QLED version of this 58" TV about 6-8 months ago for just under $600 delivered from Appliances Online. It's decent for the price but I still regret getting it.
      The Bad:
      - Dark scenes are horrible, upscaling even worse. If your source is not great, expect a bad image.
      - Crashes or freezes often enough to be annoying, sometimes requiring turning off/on from wall outlet.
      - Built in WiFi is weak, greatly improved if you can connect the unit with an ethernet cable instead.
      - Limited image/colour adjustability options that can't be accessed from most apps.
      The Good:
      - The remote and UI is very responsive (when it hasn't frozen).
      - I like the Android system and consider it a plus over the LG and Panasonic user interface.
      - Price
      - A HD or UHD Netflix movie will be fine but far below my 4 year old 55" Panasonic for colour and black levels.

Ok, cheers, sounds like they haven't improved much, if at all in the last 3 years.

Luckily for younger people who have no attachment to the name blaupunkt they will just assume it's yet another cheap generic TV. This assumption will serve them well.

      • Crashes or freezes often enough to be annoying, sometimes requiring turning off/on from wall outlet.

        Curious, for my parents.

Do you watch TV? Or is this all when using apps?
Lots of Android TV's with low specs are terrible at 'apps' but fine for TV.

Also, random tip, enable developer options, and turn on 'Dont Keep Background Tasks'; you'll see a world of improvement :) (this is a tip regardless of brand)

        • I don't recall it ever freezing whilst watching FTA TV but also I don't watch TV that much.
You're probably right, it mainly happens when using the apps.

  • Yeah the single review doesn't inspire much confidence in this TV. Seems it's the whole 'you get what you pay for'.

    • An important thing to keep in mind when reading online reviews is that people naturally tend to complain more than praise.

People who are satisfied with it will just use it and not bother looking for a website just to post a comment saying "It works fine".

But if they receive a dud that fails in 2 months they're more likely to voice their displeasure because they've been inconvenienced by having to do a warranty claim.

  • Seems to be the exact same TV as the BIG W EKO 58" one.

    • That means crap then. I had one QLED

      • I bought the same QLED one, just warranty returned it because it had black horizontal lines accross the panel, what happened with yours?

        • Corners were yellowish, all 4. Black was terrible with pixel response quite bad. I sold it locally.

When going cheap, its usually the OS that lets it down, and causes hangs (even in the tuner!).

Linsar from TGG, has a few WebOS TVs which are much more stable than Android when run on bare minimum specs.

Budget is still a thing; but it takes more 'effort' to find the right thing.

  • Good brand?

Chinesium badge engineered. May as well replace it and stick on AKAI, AWA, HITACHI (or any other number of retired brands). Note I say this owning a 2 year old 65in EKO (from BigW) that I'm pretty happy with.

      • Same here. Very happy with the BigW 65” EKO

      • What about upscaling FTA? And does it have an adjustable back light?

    • Used to be.

I purchased this TV back in around June or July. It is pure garbage. The picture quality is fine for the price, but the lag/delay in using remote/navigating menus is so bad it's pretty much to the point of unusable. I ended up buying an AppleTV and haven't turned it off that since. So as a glorified display screen it is fine, and the price is reasonable (I paid $560) but yeah prepare to be frustrated.

Same experience with the one I had, however, inputting a 4k signal made it crash 100% of the time. Ended up getting a refund.

  • Wouldn’t bother with this, Should be able to get QLED by now around same price.
