SUV - anything mazda after 2010 might be okay - i've heard they seem to be decent mechanically. Maybe a cheapo Rav 4 as well.
Sadan - if you can find a good condition Honda Accord with one owner who was an old lady i'd say get it.
nissan x-trail, very ugly so very cheap, but very reliable and solid vehicle
Not going to call the OP out for laziness buttttt a search of Ozbargain would return a tonne of forum posts on the same topic.
Although my 2c is to get a Hyundai/Kia from the last 10 years.
You can call me out, I should have thought about it. I am not a fan of Korean's but I might look into it.
Out of interest what's wrong with Koreans?
I think they're great people.
Nothing against the people
See your previous post from the start of the year - Is It Worth Buying a Used 2017/2018 Suzuki Swift if New Is Only $2k More
Yes we bought a car for that post
This is another one.
Ford Territory Titanium or TX.
My dad had a FPV F6X, and now has a SZ Territory (after the F6X was written off :(). Excellent ride and handling, good visibility, a strong motor and transmission, and generally a good car to be in. My only complaints with the SZ are the lack of AWD in petrol, and the electric steering at low speeds is a bit light. There are a few complaints about fuel consumption, but for the size and power I think it's very reasonable on fuel. I toss up buying one every now and again.
What do yo want to use it for? Do you want space, economy, extra seats, boot space, wagon? Can’t recokmned anything without further info.
Just Japanese/Korean and common. Not diesel unless you do hour long trips on the highway at least weekly.
Just a standard family sedan or SUV to get around, without saying something reliable and I don't want to pay too much for service.
No other special requirements.
So just go pick one you like the look and feel of. There’s plenty to choose from and no single recommendation from anyone is going to give you THE answer.
If you want a decent recommendation, come back with a shortlist of 2 or 3.
Why not spend a day looking at used car yards, have a few test drives, and you'll then have more of an idea of what you want and can afford OP.
Sedan or SUV? A car can’t be both simultaneously
Used car market is absolutely over priced atm, I cant find anything decent with 20K, I was hoping to get something decent around year 2016 to 2018 with 20K but
it is not possible.
People are taking advantage of the strong used-car demand to upgrade their vehicles!
I think I will just bite the bullet and getting a new car, which means I will have to wait for a couple of months as there is no stock available until Feb 2020,
seriously thinking.
Given the lack of details I'm going to suggest that a vehicle you like and that suits your specific needs to the value of $20,000 would be ideal.
