I am looking at the basic Suzuki Swift GL Navigator
Secondhand 2017/2018 is approx. 2K cheaper than the brand-new 2020 model, driveaway $19K.
Should we spend the extra 2K buying new?

You might be able to negotiate a lower 2nd hand price…Also depends on how many kms on the 2nd hand vehicle.
Yes good idea, I will also consider mileage and warranty. @fredfloresjr looking like new car is the way to go.
Ask how much a 2021 compliance would be. Again, if it's only like $1k more, get the newer one
Seems like a no brainer for warranty and resale.
100%
no
Please explain
I'd go brand new.
2017-2018 seem to be about 17k plus transfer costs so there's probably another $500 there. No brainer if you can get a new one drive away for 19-20k.
Yes we took all that into account, plus rego, hence the 2K difference.
I didnt know about carchase, seems to be a good one, thanks for this.
We are leaning toward buying new.
Current private market price $14,500
And where are they getting that info from?
Cheapest GL Nav on Carsales (a 2017) in Vic is $14,900
Wouldn't exactly say 'market price' is below the cheapest advertised. Market price should be reflective of the median price
Is the secondhand vehicle in the Suzuki car yard?
If yes then this is how they roll. You're looking at the over priced secondhand car and the salesman mentions for a few extra thousand I can get you into a brand new car with warranty etc.
Oldest trick in the book. Salesman gets the commission and the dealership gets the statistic. Used car yard salesman is still in his crappy portable office, surfing ozbargain or contemplating his pending divorce and is non the wiser.
Bait and switch. Thank ya mother for the rabbits.

Gil, almost got the sale…
"aw your shouldver seen me homey, i was in the zone. what? no, no, i didnt make a sale, but i was so close, i could feel it!"
I was a private sale
Actually, I made a mistake the difference for auto is 3K (manual 2K)
If you can afford it, also having the new car smell :)
Mmmm, carcinogenic
(Faints)
get new for sure!
Just get the new one.
For +$2k and if the $17k used price is rock bottom then it's worth it just for the extra warranty and "new factor".
Are they exactly the same? There was somebody here recently complaining as they'd bough a Holden SUV and the 2018 model had less features than the 2017.
I were told the 2020 model is the same if not better, but we will check further before buying.
It is actually +3K for Auto, my bad.
did you factor in 12 months rego in 2nd hand purchase that will come bundled with your new car?
The used one is overpriced. It is the listed price. What it is sold for will be determined at hw actual sale.
Buy used, but don’t pay as much. Use ‘but I could buy new for extra $2k’ as a bargaining chip.
Yes I did, rego, transfer, warranty, potential RWC
On top of that mileage, unknown issues and cosmetic's.
Thank you guys, I think we will go with the new car
yes just for the new car warranty (but that is just my opinion)
Swifts really hold there value well!
I were in your position and have the money I will always get the brand new one.
