My new 1-month Trial membership was about to expire in 2 days, on 12 Dec. Using Amazon Android app, I just went to Cancel - clicked "Continue to cancel", then accepted offer to change plan to Annual. Then again went to cancel, clicked continue to cancel button, switched back to Monthly plan and my trial got reset with expiry on 9 January now ! It now says "29 days left in your trial".

There was no message to extend the trial for another 30 days or anything like that. It just happened without prior notification.

Update: according to xyzzyxyzzy, this "hack" could be used multiple times and extend your Trial up to at least 6 months !!

Update2: Do not change your Prime membership card details, as this may cancel Trial "extendibility" (read this comment) Update 3: read this comment

    • Same thing happened to me last month, and now I can't renew it for a 3rd time.

Was fun while it lasted I guess.

    Thanks OP!

  • didnt work for me on first 1 month trial

Tried this just now and it works well for me! Got another 29 days left for free trial. Thanks OP!!

    Still works :)

Did not work for the 4th time. No idea why. Have tried switching multiple times over the past few days but no good. Oh well, managed to get just over 2 months for free which is great considering.

  • Didnt work for me anymore..Not sure why.

  • +1

    Worked on pc

still works, onto 3rd month now

  • Just extended mine 3rd time (for 4th month) 2 days before expiry. It gave me another 29 days.

  • What a hack! Tried and it worked

  • +3

Update - mine has stopped working on the third time trying to do this hack.Never really used my account to do anything, didn't change card details.

1 day out from expiry, went to end membership. Got offered to change to annual payments as usual. Clicked accept, Amazon says this action was successful. However, it still confirms I would be on the monthly payment, not annual. Go to cancel again, get offered to change to annual payments again. Clicked accept and same story, site says success but nothing actually happens and I can't change over to annual payment. An infinite loop.
When trying to manually change to annual payment in the "see more plans" option, I get the message "Due to a technical problem, we could not process your request completely. Please check after a few minutes."

Looks like I'm out! It was fun to do while it lasted, and I didn't get too much out of prime membership in the end.

    • Tried just now and came across this same exact problem

      • I am also having the same issue.

        • +3

Update: I’ve updated the payment method and now the above issue is fixed. Switched to annual membership and then again switched back to monthly membership. Showing 29 days left in your trial. Just for reference, its my third month of trial and I’ve done this on the iOS app. Hope this helps others who are having the same issue.

I just tried this (first time), and it worked.

  • Used up my first trial years ago, it became available again last month, today I'm 2 days out from the trial expiring and followed the above steps and now back to 29 days left. Cheers!

  • Tried this 2 days before expiry on the Android Amazon app.
Followed the exact instructions, but didn't work.
I believe I have multiple Amazon accounts from same IP address and Amazon knows this :)

Mine wouldn't work on the app this time (end of 4th month) but worked on chrome browser on PC.

      • Good to know.
I subscribed to prime for 1 month as needed something urgently. Might cancel after 1 month.

Worked for me this morning, per OP's instructions

  • +1

Just extended mine for the 5th free month !!!
Important to click through Continue to Cancel to get to the option to switch to Annual

  • +1

Also on my 5th free month! I've been doing it 4 days before the end of the trial every month with no issues… Cheers OP

    • Just worked for one day before renewal.

      • Mine worked on the day of renewal this morning.

  • +1

    Just done my 4th month.

  • Just tried it with 4 days to go of my 30 day membership but no bingo :(
Should I try again in 2 days time?

    • +1

I think one hidden factor may be that if you had purchased a lot during the free trial period. In other words, no purchase (or one/two) may let you have another period of free trial.

      • OK …. good point…. Amazon had told me I saved $92.40 in shipping during the trial …. speak volumes :)

  • Not working for me now it seems

  • I tried to extend for the 3rd time this month with no success - it was 5 days before my trial ends. Today, 2 days before my trial end, I tried again one more time and it extended my prime trial to 24 April 2022! I don't even need to cancel twice. I cancelled the first time, switched to annual and the prime trial extended to 24 April! Happy day!

I was on 4th month of free trials and tried to do it again one day before my trial ended on the android app. This wasn't working, it didn't seem to change over to annual, just kept saying payments will be monthly.
I tried again today (the day of renewal) on PC (chrome browser) and it worked just switching to annual, so will be heading for 150 days of free trial..

  • My switch to annual subscription button doesn't work on Android app, a day out from trial ending.
On desktop attempting to switch to annual, it's the same - "after your free trial, you will be charged $6.99 for a month of Prime."

  • 6th month unlocked today

  • I tried on PC doesn't work for me 3 days before expire

    • 4 days before didn't work either.

      • Worked for me 1 day before. Using Android app.

  • Tried on PC .. didn't work (previously has). Had about a 4 month run !
Good while it lasted I guess!

  • No longer working so I've just cancelled Prime. I'm starting to think this is capped on total postage saved. I think I save a little over $100 on postage, got about 3 months.

The only thing I used Prime was for shipping. Most off my orders are over the min for local/international shipping.

Update: This worked for about 3 months but now it only extends for 1 day, not 30 days

    • i had that same problem. i changed the payment method to a prepaid coles mastercard with $0.48 left on it. my prime membership now shows a 2023 expiry date…but who knows for how long lol

      • I just tried to change payment methods - still didn't work :'( also only extends for 1 day

  • +1

No longer work for me. 1 Day before renewal. I also tried to manually switch to annual plan.

Stopped working for me, but it could have been because I accidentally left it until 2 days before (instead of 3-5 like the previous 2 uses of this hack)

Regardless; Thank you for posting, it was neat while it lasted!

  • +1

    They found the bug

  • +3

    not working anymore!!!!

  • Got 3 months free trial, Amazon tells me I saved A$18 postage…

    .

  • Amazon cancelled my current extended Prime trial when I still have one week left. Guess they found the bug and forcefully fixed any account benefitted from this.

    • oh, how long did it take for them to fix the bug…

      • +1

Maybe I just had bad luck when they checked my account, just a warning if anyone need Prime. I should have ordered some more earlier.

Thanks OP for the hack anyway, save me heaps those months.

        • +3

You can always open up a new account to get free prime. Amazon doesn't seem to enforce address-based restrictions (at least when you are not doing it too much).

  • +3

I've been using this trick for 5 months, it just stopped working recently.

    • Same here. Just went to renew today and it didn't work for me. Was great while it lasted though
