should mention its for android. my initial thought was "vlc is the best media player. why would i spend 99 cents when vlc is free"

      • Just curious what you think is the best player - mplayer?
I didn't neg you but personally I've found VLC to be the best and its availability across platforms is a good bonus.

        • I think from a performance standpoint he may be right, (cpu consumption) but pretty much every desktop these days can handle 1080p so I and others probably dont use vlc for performance but rather compatibility.

        • +1

FOR PC - i prefer media player classic for faster performance. What annoys me about VLC is a single mouse click on the screen does not pause (double click switches from full-screen to windowed view.

However, I keep VLC as a back up though for the rare occasions that I cannot run a file using media player classic.

          Potplayer is fantastic:

VLC feel antiquated when compared to Potplayer. Potplayer also plays many videos that choke with VLC. VLC often loses A/V sync or has choppy audio even with standard AVI files on my netbook or slower desktop, but Potplayer plays 720p H.264 video just fine. Nice interface too.

Lmao, the Neg defense force are out in full swing just like always. VLC fanboys rolleyes.gif
"I don't agree with your opinion so i'm going to make your post fade to grey on an internet forum!"
You want a better freeware alternative? Media Player Classic - Home Cinema.
Works perfectly fine out of the box, but you pick your own filters and setup custom to your needs; Instead of getting a self-contained, sub-par blob of software.

Poor subtitle support, Poor Matroska handling, Resource hogging, Late to implement DXVA, Visual artifacts… Do I really NEED to go on?

        • zoom player is the best in my opinion, vlc takes 2nd place.

For PC my favourite one is KMPlayer.

        • +3

KmPlayer and PotPlayer actually had the same developer, try it out. I converted from KmPlayer to PotPlayer ages ago and never went back.

      • I used to use MPC-HC but I just can't be bothered any more. VLC is great if you're as lazy as me. Also I hardly ever watch stuff on PC as I have a HTPC to watch things on. Watching stuff on a small PC screen just sucks. Either way thanks for the deal!

    • mooglish, you're the one who doesn't agree with my opinion and said I've mistaken. its MY opinion

  • vplayer on google play….. what a funny name! I mean the google one.

  • Does anyone else remember when this used to be free and the developer said it would always be free, then it changed to a paid app. I ended up changing to moboplayer and haven't gone back. Is vplayer worth going back to?

    • I have a similar questions. I'm using Mobo player now too and not sure if this would be better.
      Cheers.

Yeah i do remember when the dev said vplayer would always be free.
Id like to purchase this app (its only 99c) but i dont really see the point as the non official/ beta VLC app is doing wonders.

      Great post anyways

Don't waste your money when there is a free alternative that is better. I tried vplayer a few months ago but found mxplayer to be better.

MXplayer has super fast seek times and has gesture controls for brightness, volume and seek. This app has 50 million downloads at the moment and has a 4.5 star rating after over 50,000 reviews. Did I mention it is also FREE?

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.vid…

    • Now this is a good reason to neg a deal as compared to the above negger…

Thanks for providing the link to the option..

    • I just tried mxplayer, and while it is a capable player on my underpowered phone (Huawei Ideos X1), mxplayer has issues. It incorrectly labelled every one of my ogg vorbis audio files as being a "video", so now I have to dig through a load of non-video files to find my video files. Mxplayer also won't let you specify which folder to search, at least on my phone. The only options are the "camera" folder or the "/mnt" folder (i.e. everything).

I'll stay with QQplayer, which is free, plays files just as well as mxplayer, and DOES let me select which folder to search:
      https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.re…

However QQplayer does not say it supports multithreading, nor gestures. QQplayer is a single download of 5.9M vs mxplayer's two downloads totalling 8.9M.

    • +1

Yes I will put in another confidence vote that MXplayer is much better than Vplayer. I used both and found MXplayer to be more flexible, support multiple subtitle files and able to play so many formats!

  • DICE player is so very good and is free

  • -2

At the fear of adding another program to this extensive list of media players that are free I just have to suggest zoom player, I have found it to be in fact better than vlc AND it looks nicer than vlc as well, plus it is free :)

  • has DTS but won't install on the Logitech Revue tho.

  • So, why doesn't this puppy play OGG (audio &/or video) files?

    • It says Vorbis is supported in the audio codecs.

    • It played the ogg vorbis audio files on my Huawei Ideos X1 - but incorrectly labeled them as "video" files in the selection menu. It played them just like it plays movie files, same screen, only with black video.

I recall reading somewhere that the ability to play various audio/video file formats is built into whichever build of Android you have, and many audio/video players will only use the system library functions. Better audio/video players use their own code to decode the file formats.

neg aswell. why pay a developer who lies?

  • Is it better than moboplayer? I remember the old vplayer cannot play from network drive.

    • Pretty sure to play from a network drive you need to get CIFS/SMB working in your phone's OS. A rather annoying thing to do.
