Myer Sent Me a Dreaded "There’s Been A Delay with Your Order" - Should I Try to Cancel The Order?

Hi fellow OBers, as always I value the experiences and advice of fellow bargain hunters.

Details: I purchased a sizeable LEGO set on Monday to stack both Myer's sale price and 20% cashback from Cashrewards (which didn't track anyway). On Thu (yesterday) I got an email saying "There’s Been A Delay With Your Order".

A search of this email title lead me to lots of comments from our OB community which suggest that it is often a precursor to Myer cancelling the order, sometimes weeks later.

I can see Amazon is still price matching the sale price, and it's a significant saving. Should I just cancel the Myer order, save myself the hassle of following up the untracked cashback (which plenty of you say is common with MYER denying or refusing the cashback) so I can lock in the purchase price with AMZ?

Update Fri 10-Dec-2021 No change at my end after 10 business days, so I called 13MYER for an update. Apparently it was unable to be found at the original store (Chatswood NSW - I'm in metro Brisbane) so it is coming from the Qld distribution centre. The rep could see it was 'released' (?) today for dispatch over the next two days, and I should receive a dispatch confirmation email with tracking by Sunday. So it looks positive.

Update Tu 14-Dec-2021 Got the shipment confirmation with tracking on Sat 11-Dec. It was delivered this morning. In short: Myer made good on this purchase - about 2 weeks from purchase to delivery.

      Nothing new here
      Delays everywhere for everything
      Live with it baby

Definitely cancel. I don't place much trust in department stores nowadays when it comes to fulfilling online orders especially when it comes to peak shopping periods.

      No idea reply my friend
Myer was one of the first online stores in Australia mate

The delays are occurring everywhere for everything
No just here but in America as well!

      Learn to live with it.

In my experience Myer didn't let me cancel

They offer refunds for non-clearance items. PITA as you have to go I store.

      • +3

Yeah I don't have a myer within 4 hours drive and noone on the phone would help or knew what was going on with my daily calls

  • +3

In simpler times we would go to Myer and DJs, select gifts, and buy on the spot.

Myer has really annoyed me with not fulfilling delivery orders (I haven't had a problem with their click and collect though). I purchased a couple of dinner sets (minus mugs) from another retailer. At the same time, I also visited Myer to find the matching mug sets. There was a number of them available but I didn't want to have to lug them around whilst shopping so I ordered them there and then on their ebay store so I could get them delivered.

The item was a 'new listing' with more than 10 available. However, I got an email a couple of days later from ebay stating that Myer had cancelled my order due to insufficient stock. Disappointing, as it was the only place I could find the matching set and also stacked with upsized cashback and bonus cashback which will now be lost. Considering the listing and the store had multiple in stock, I find it hard to believe my order could not be fulfilled.

Also got it for my NES order

I say leave the Myer just in case. I had the same issue but then they delivered it anyway. If your concerned order it from Amazon and worse case you have 2. Then return one, prob myer cause you can take it into store

This is what I would do too

  • +1

I would leave it open. I had the same email last week also on a large Lego purchase and I got a shipping notice today

  • +2

    I'd leave it open.
Had a delay email yesterday only to get a shipped notification today.

Came on to say the same thing. For those who received the delay email - be patient, all is not lost and hopefully you'll get a dispatch notification soon 🙏

This happened to me, I tried to cancel and they wouldn't.
Some items they get fulfilled by third party sellers it seems… which is why they couldn't.
(I bought some Sheridan sheets from Myer which were shipped by Sheridan.com.au)

Uh oh.. I bought the kids new school shoes and got the “delay” email

I got this message for my Kindle order. It was dispatched and received shortly after.

I also got this message for the NES, but still waiting and seeing on that.

Update: NES ordered 29/11. Dispatched 7/12.

I assume these "there's been a delay" emails are just automated when an order hasn't been dispatched within 3 days of ordering.

    yes cancel and source elsewhere

I ordered an echo Dot and a fire TV stick in the black Friday sales, but they disappeared in the system (tracking number got lodged but never progressed). Amazon support reordered them using expedited shipping for me on Wednesday and the system tells me they will be delivered by Sunday?? 8pm, yet this Saturday morning they aren't even marked as shipped… should've just gone into JB Hifi!!! I guess Christmas is the excuse now or still covid? Maybe 911 delays. My samsung phone repair took 3 weeks to get to samsung recently as well….

In the past few orders I’ve done with Amazon, I don’t receive the shipping notification until the day it’s due for delivery

EG; bought some books, and it was dispatched today, and it’s also due for delivery today

All my Myer orders the last 3 months have taken 4 weeks or so. Auspost ordinary parcel service.

I got that email about one of the items I ordered. However I received it 3 days later - go figure??

    Just had the opposite problem.
Bought a quilt cover set and quilt at very reduced prices, and they've cancelled my order because of a 'price error'. First time this has happened, as usually I've found Myer pretty good online.

Biggest annoyance and inconvenience has been leaving security tags on stock twice, which necessitated going into the store to get it fixed. Both times were during lockdown, and the store was outside my 5km radius, so I had to wait ages to get it sorted.

      Update.

Myer are sending me a gift voucher for $20 for the inconvenience of the cancelled order.

Yep, Myer click & collect is a real miss in my experience. Thought I’d save myself some time searching & made an order, four days later ring up & find it’s being transported from interstate with no timeline for arrival.

Can’t cancel because it’s already on the move & it won’t arrive for the birthday. Ending up having to buy something locally in person & will do a return when my “click & collect” order finally makes it to my local store.

I thought click & collect, was if it’s at the local store they hold onto it for me who’s paid & then I go in and quickly grab it when I have a spare moment - like a convenience thing, not have it shipped from interstate with no timeline for arrival. I sympathise Op & others.

  • Did you buy because you wanted the items?
    Has that changed?
    First world problem, sorry.

    • +2

I'm not sure your questions are as rhetorical as you think, so here goes:

Did you buy because you wanted the items?

No. I bought because I want the items at that price.

      Has that changed?

Well no, that's the point of this question: It seems, on the evidence, that the opportunity to actually have the item at this price is slipping away, based on other people's experience with the same email.

      First world problem, sorry.

As far as I know, Australia is indeed a first world nation, since it aligned with United States and the rest of NATO and opposed the Soviet Union and/or communism during the Cold War. No need to apologise for that.

Does that answer your questions, or did you have something non passive-aggressive to add to my reasonable question of the OB community?

  • Was delivered this morning. Thanks for the advice all - hope this post and comments helps the next person make sense of delays from Myer.

One of my 'delay with order' parcels has now been posted. It made no progress for a week, but has finally been scanned at a facility. I contacted Auspost to follow up on the delay. They have informed me the parcel requires signature and will need to be collected from post office BUT it does not have my name or details on it. Not sure how they know who and where it is going to, but I ordered it from my account which has my details saved in it. I doubt they will let me collect it in this case.
